Here's some news to cheer Saints fans. Jay Rodriguez is in the Southampton travelling party for the first time in 13 months today - it was on this very ground that he suffered that dreadful injury last season. It will be great to see him back fit and firing next year.

Southampton are getting on the ball a bit more at the start of the second half, and their front line is certainly looking a bit more lively. Graziano Pelle sidefoots Steven Davis's cross against the post, but he was well offside.

Ooh, that could have been two! Sergio Aguero cleverly feeds Frank Lampard on the edge of the area with a nifty backheel, but for once, the midfielder's control just lets him down.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini paid tribute to goalscorer Frank Lampard in today's match programme.

He says: "He has only been here a season but he has already shown why he will be remembered as an all-time great. From the moment he arrived he set an example with his professionalism and he has scored some big goals for us too."

City fans, are you sorry to be seeing Frank go? Does he still have more to offer at the Etihad? Let us know on Twitter at #bbcfootball.

Well, all eyes were on Frank Lampard and he has delivered in style. His goal separates the sides at the break.

  8. Postpublished at 15:46 BST 24 May 2015

Suddenly, from nowhere, Southampton almost do have a leveller! Djuricic slips a nice ball between the centre-backs to Shane Long, and as the Irishman is tackled, the ball runs invitingly loose to Graziano Pelle, who whacks it wide. Decent chance.

  9. Postpublished at 15:44 BST 24 May 2015

Manchester City are winning the midfield battle, they are just quicker to everything in the middle of the park. Southampton don't look to have a response in them before the break.

  10. GREAT SAVE!published at 15:39 BST 24 May 2015

Another great chance for Manchester City and a great save by Kelvin Davis. A powerful driving run by Yaya Toure sets up Sergio Aguero, Alderweireld comes across to make a good tackle but the ball rebounds off Aguero's foot and is heading for the top corner before Davis intervenes with an acrobatic stop.

A great cross from Sadio Mane finds Shane Long unmarked in the area but he can't control the shot. The linesman's flag goes up anyway.

That's the fairytale scenario! Frank Lampard marks his final Premier League appearance with goal number 177, side-footing home James Milner's cut-back from 10 yards out. A very characteristic strike.

From Manchester City's third corner of the game, David Silva's low cross is deflected and Yaya Toure just misses it with an acrobatic effort. Pressure beginning to build on Southampton now.

  15. Postpublished at 15:29 BST 24 May 2015

Worth noting that Liverpool are two down at Stoke, so a Southampton goal here would take them sixth as it stands - good news for their Europa League qualification hopes.

The opportunities are coming now for Man City. Kelvin Davis can't hold Yaya Toure's shot from the edge of the area and Sergio Aguero looks certain to convert the tap-in, but the keeper recovers well to smother the shot.

Scrap that, this is the best chance we've seen. David Silva plays in Sergio Aguero with a beautifully weighted pass but the striker shows an uncharacteristic lack of composure, blazing over from a tight angle.

  19. Postpublished at 15:22 BST 24 May 2015

That's the best chance we've seen so far. Shane Long skips away from Pablo Zabaleta after an error from the right-back but his shot is weak and easily saved by Joe Hart.
