Playing, coaching, managing at home and abroad... former England boss Steve McClaren has enjoyed a varied footballing career.

Now he has gone back to the classroom in order to move into the boardroom.

The 55-year-old Yorkshireman, who was sacked by Newcastle in March, has recently enrolled at Manchester Metropolitan University to gain a Masters degree in Sporting Directorship.

"The next step in the future will be as a chief executive or sporting director, or even running my own club," he says.

"To do that I had to acquire different skills and go back to school. It's probably old age. I always wanted to coach and manage. I know that won't last forever."

Don't let Brendan Rodgers' expression fool you. He ain't scared of Barcelona. That's five-time European champions, reigning Spanish title holders, Messi/Suarez/Neymar-inspired Barca....

Celtic are not going to the Nou Camp to be "passengers" in Tuesday's Champions League tie, says Bhoys boss Rodgers.

The Scottish champions face the Spanish giants in their first group match, but Rodgers insists it is not a "free game" given the low expectations on his side.

"We understand the difficulty," said the Northern Irishman. "We want to enjoy it, but we want to get a result."
