  1. MacIntyre sinks monster puttpublished at 21:44 BST 18 June

    MacIntyre -1 (3)

Bob MacIntyre was brilliant in finishing second at the US Open last year and he's channelled some of the spirit of 2025 over at the third.

A magnificent putt from off the green, fully 58 feet, gets him into the red and his round trending in the right direction.

  2. Rahm holds nervepublished at 21:42 BST 18 June

    Spieth E, Rahm E, Rose +1 (2*)

Jon Rahm holds his nerve to again save par. He makes no mistake from four feet.

Jordan Spieth and Justin Rose also make par.

  3. 'They made it as fair as they could'published at 21:40 BST 18 June

  4. Lowry misses birdie chancepublished at 21:38 BST 18 June

    Lowry -1 (3*)

Shane Lowry looks frustrated as he is unable to convert from seven feet for birdie.

    He remains one under.

  5. Horschel joins group at -2published at 21:38 BST 18 June

    Horschel -2 (2)

    The leaders keep on coming.

And this one is an absolute bonus. Billy Horschel has rolled in a 12-foot putt from the edge of the green for consecutive birdies.

  6. 'Overall a really good day'published at 21:36 BST 18 June

    McIlroy -1 (69)

Rory McIlroy after a one-under 69: "With the conditions today, anything under par or anything around even par is a good score. It was a day to really just keep yourself in the tournament and not shoot yourself out of it, which is exactly what I did eight years ago here.

"I went out with the mindset that pars were going to be good, and if you could pick up a couple of birdies here and there, that's always a bonus. But really just minimizing the mistakes. I did that for the most part today.

"It's so tough. It's so difficult. I didn't feel like I hit two bad iron shots on the last two holes and put myself in pretty difficult spots and wasn't able to get it up-and-down, but overall a really good day."

  7. Schauffele becomes seventh at toppublished at 21:33 BST 18 June

    Schauffele -2 (3)

    Shinnecock is being tamed!

We have another co-leader and this one is a familiar sight at the top of US Open leaderboards.

Xander Schauffele holds the record for lowest round (62 at LA Country Club in 2023), and has seven top 10 at this competition.

He's just drilled back-to-back birdies at two and three.

  8. Bryson joins the lead!published at 21:31 BST 18 June

    DeChambeau -2, Hovland +2, M Fitzpatrick +2 (4*)

Back-to-back birdies for Bryson DeChambeau sees him join the group of leaders at two under.

He just caught the edge of the 13th fairway and that meant he could control his approach, which was safe enough at 25 feet away but that was close enough for DeChambeau to just die his birdie try in on the final roll.

Bryson means business today - but Matt Fitzpatrick and Viktor Hovland are both struggling as they both make another bogey.

  9. Rose opens with bogeypublished at 21:31 BST 18 June

    Spieth E, Rahm E, Rose +1 (1*)

The trio of former US Open champions all find the green in regulation, but none can convert for birdie.

Jordan Spieth comes closest, his 33-footer needing just one more turn of the ball. Not bad at all.

Justin Rose and Jon Rahm both race their putts past the hole, with Rahm able to recover for par.

But Rose drops a shot after missing from six feet.

  10. Stout joins leaderspublished at 21:26 BST 18 June

    Stout -2 (4)

    Another amateur joins the leaders!

Preston Stout, 21, has two birdies in his first four holes to sit at -2 alongside a group of four that includes fellow non-pro Ryder Cowan.

    They're making this look easy.

  11. Clark into share of leadpublished at 21:18 BST 18 June

    Clark -2 (2*)

Since winning the US Open in 2023, Wyndham Clark has made more headlines off the course than on it, including smashing up the clubhouse at Oakmont Country Club in last year's tournament.

His golf has looked a lot tidier in recent weeks though, a win at Byron Nelson, a third at Memorial and a tie for 11th at the Canadian Open showing he is at the top of his game.

And he's now level at the top of this leaderboard.

Birdie-birdie start puts him in a group of four heading the way.

  12. MacIntyre starts with parpublished at 21:18 BST 18 June

    MacIntyre E (1)

Scotland's Robert MacIntyre starts his round with a par. A brilliant approach left him a putt from five feet for birdie, he will be annoyed that it did not go in.

  13. Birdie for Brysonpublished at 21:17 BST 18 June

    DeChambeau -1, Hovland +1, M Fitzpatrick +1 (3*)

Bryson DeChambeau converts the birdie he'd have expected after that monster 427-yard drive, just chipping a wedge the remaining 45 yards and leaving six feet to make his three.

It's a simple game when you can smack it over 400 yards onto the fairway isn't it...

Matt Fitzpatrick makes his par but Viktor Hovland drops a shot after a pretty poor three-putt from 50 feet.

  14. Red-hot Rai ties leadpublished at 21:16 BST 18 June

    Rai -2, Morikawa E, Day +2 (4*)

Given his mic-drop finish at the USPGA, Aaron Rai can justifiably strut around Shinnecock with his two gloves on and chest puffed out.

And he clearly has no plans to rest on his laurels. After that lovely birdie two at 11, he parred the next and picks up his second birdie at the 13th following a dead-eyed approach to five feet.

Two under through four and he's back at the top of a major leaderboard once again.

  15. Rose keen to continue British winning run in majorspublished at 21:16 BST 18 June

    Rose (21:09 BST)

Justin Rose has missed the cut in five of the past six US Opens. However, the Englishman has been in contention at both the Masters and US PGA Championship this year, finishing joint-third and tied for 10th, respectively.

And Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy and England’s Aaron Rai prevailing at Augusta National and Aronimink, Rose, 45, would like to continue that run for British golfers.

“It would be a great way to make history for three in a row from the UK,” said Rose at Shinnecock Hills.

“Specifically for England, obviously Aaron has broken a bit of a drought again. I hoped that I broke that drought back in 2013 and Fitzy (Matt Fitzpatrick) has won the US Open (in 2022) as well.

“But if you look at relative to world ranking through the years, especially English players, I don’t think we’ve won as many majors since (Sir Nick) Faldo as we could have or should have.

“I focus on the big events, for sure. They’re the events that are going to change my career and they’re the events I’ve sort of been getting up for and playing well in.”

  16. New rules to limit golf ball distance pushed backpublished at 21:15 BST 18 June

That Bryson DeChambeau drive is a timely reminder to golf's governing bodies about why they have been pushing to limit how far golf balls can fly in the professional game.

Just yesterday, the R&A and United States Golf Association put plans on hold as they try to figure out further solutions.

  17. Par finish for Schefflerpublished at 21:14 BST 18 June

    Scheffler +2, Spaun +7, Howell +8 (F)

Not a bad start for Scottie Scheffler as he tries to win the Grand Slam. A little bit of everything in there, plenty to work on after his two-over round of 72 but he battled hard and showed some good signs.

He's certainly more in touch than defending champion JJ Spaun after he struggled all day in his round of 77 and amateur champion Mason Howell who shot 78 but that's not really that bad around here in these conditions...as an 18-year-old amateur!

Spaun's 77 is the highest score in the first round by a defending US Open champion since Rory McIlroy also shot 77 in 2012 after winning at Congressional a year earlier.

  18. Bombs away!published at 21:10 BST 18 June

    DeChambeau E, Hovland E, M Fitzpatrick +1 (2*)

Bryson DeChambeau simply hammers a tee shot at the 12th which seems to hang in the air for an eternity before taking a big bounce off the road miles down there across the fairway.

It races on and finally ends its journey 427 yards away. Wow!

  19. Lowry starts with birdiepublished at 21:08 BST 18 June

    Lowry -1 (1*)

Ireland's Shane Lowry starts his opening round with a birdie.

    Stunning putt from 21 feet.

  20. Three pars on 11published at 21:00 BST 18 June

    DeChambeau E, Hovland E, M Fitzpatrick +1 (2*)

Bryson DeChambeau drains a nice putt on the 11th, his second hole of the day, to make his par. It comes after a scruffy chip and it's his short game he'll have to clean up if he's to do well this week.

Viktor Hovland starts the day with two pars and Matt Fitzpatrick steadies the ship with a par.
