A nice drive again and a decent approach to 13 feet from Rory McIlroy results in his fifth birdie of the day and gets him back to 10 under and in a tie for fifth.

There's not been enough of those approach shots, but still with five birdies he's not been too bad at all, but that double bogey in particular on 10 was a massive blow.

A bogey here for Matt Fitzpatrick though after he found the bunker off the tee and just had to splash it out before only just catching the edge of the green with his third.

Scottie Scheffler is three under par for his round today, even with a double bogey on his card.

The champion elect finds the fairway on 15.

Another hole ticked off for Scottie Scheffler, with his five-shot lead remaining intact and just four holes remaining.

Li Haotong's chances of finishing second might have disappeared, though, with a messy double bogey that drops him back to nine under.

A brilliant day from Wyndham Clark comes to a close with a par at the 18th.

He's followed up a 66 yesterday with a 65 today and he finishes his Open at 11 under par and becomes the clubhouse leader.

If not for the brilliance of Scottie Scheffler, he'd have been in with a shout today...

All about staying out of trouble for Scottie Scheffler down the final stretch. No need for heroics, just par your way home and you'll be the champion.

That's exactly what he does on 14, finding the middle of the fairway and then sending his approach safely onto the green.

Li Haotong, on the other hand, is over the back of the green in three.

Meanwhile, John Parry, who made an ace at the 13th on Saturday, has carded four under today and he joins Rose in the clubhouse at seven under for the tournament.

Dramatic knee-to-the-floor sink from Robert MacIntyre at 17 after his eagle putt just drifts right of the cup.

That came after a behemoth drive, which flushed all the way to the green.

If he'd holed it, he would have gone to 11 under and a share of third.

Instead, he'll tap in to move to 10 under par with one hole to go.

This crowd - still huge in fairness - want a few more birdie roars before McIlroy closes out his championship.

But he just hasn't been able to deliver today. Yesterday's thrill ride would have taken up so much energy and it's led to a Sunday struggle.

Oh no! Finally, probably for the first time today, Rory McIlroy has jammed one in close as he stuck an approach from 141 yards to just six feet.

But he misses the birdie putt! It slides by the right edge to huge groans from the crowd who thought for all money that he'd sink that and then go on to give them a grandstand finish.

Not to be I'm afraid.

Chris Gotterup left himself just under 170 yards for his second shot but was a mile away with his approach so had to settle for a par in the end.

Just stalls his momentum a bit that one after successive birdies.

Scottie Scheffler can't stretch his five-shot lead any further on the 13th, despite a fine tee shot. He pushes his birdie try out right and it doesn't come back.

Li Haotong is just off the green but scrambles a par to stay tied for third spot - which would equal where he finished on debut at Royal Birkdale in 2017.

Bryson DeChambeau says this year's Ryder Cup is "no joke", after setting the final-round record at Portrush.

He revealed captain Keegan Bradley had encouraged his likely players to perform at The Open this week.

"I spoke with Keegan (Bradley) briefly, and then he put something in our lockers that was pretty inspirational. It was a personal message for each of us. It means a lot.

"This year's no joke - we're tired of it. We're tired of losing."

This is kind of more an exhibition of golf and and chance to watch Rory McIlroy just hit a few around Portrush for the fans now, but they're still getting every vantage point they can.

Wish they'd put their phones away though and enjoy the moment....

The final few pairs are edging closer to the final hole and the queue to make it into the stand is growing and growing.

The crowd are still loving it, just being able to see Rory.

They don't get to see him often in his home country and they're just appreciating him and giving him love for his career and winning the grand slam.

It's been great being with him. It's like the whole of Portrush is out here today.

Pars aren't good enough for Rory McIlroy, and he knows that as he once again tries to force a birdie putt in from 30 feet but has to settle for a par, despite getting a good read from Matt Fitzpatrick.

It's a fifth straight par for the Englishman who is doing well to try and stifle that obvious frustration he's feeling right now as he just can't step on the gas.
