Man City manager Pep Guardiola, speaking to Sky Sports: "We played a good game. Even 1-0 down we were playing good. I would say in general they changed and were less aggressive. We were in the positions we need and I am really pleased with the game we played in general.

"We tried to provoke them with the high pressing. They patterns they have are really good. Of course when you come here and we feel comfortable playing in our stadium, we can do what we have done again."

On Ilkay Gundogan's return: "Thank you for this warm welcome to him. He is unbelievably happy. I had doubts [about bringing him off the bench] We know each other for many years and he knows exactly what he needs to do. I am very pleased he is back."

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo speaking to Sky Sports: "Very pleased, I think we played a good game. First half we were on top of the game. Southampton had a spell in the second half, of course, they are at home.

"We played well, we were really dominant. We knew the game was 90 minutes so we didn't get desperate. I felt we were able to reach the goal.

"We started it really well. We are asking and demanding a lot from the players but they are giving good answers. We did right to control the game and control the ideas of Southampton to get in charge of the game.

"Like I said, I think we are asking a lot of things from the players and Morgan is one of them. He can give many days like this.

"It's not about the points now. We cannot get over the moon because we have a game on Wednesday so we are preparing for the next one."

"It was a dream start but we have got to manage the game better. We have got to learn from it.

"It is early days. I am getting used to the intensity. We have had the first two games against two of the best players in the league. We have got a week to look forward to another home game."

This is the fifth time Crystal Palace have lost their opening two games of a Premier League season after 2013-14, 2014-15, 2016-17 and 2017-18.

Meanwhile, West Ham’s win was their first clean sheet in the Premier League since a goalless draw with Brighton in January, ending a 19-game run in the competition without a shutout.

First of all Spurs were really good, but Everton are going to have a lot tougher games than that one.

Kuluveski was special and Maddison was brilliant. Spurs are great to watch, but there will be much bigger questions to be asked [throughout the season].

Everton looked miles away from it, not a lack of effort but a lack of quality. Very simplistic and one dimensional in the style until they made changes later on.

Nottingham Forest

The entire Everton team acknowledged the travelling support after another heavy defeat away at Tottenham.

In fairness, the majority who stayed applauded their players back which might simply be an acknowledgement that they hardly have the quality to play at this level in the 2024-25 season.

Even Sean Dyche simply stood there in acceptance of a heavy 4-0 defeat, not ranting or raving at his players as they were well-beaten by a slick Spurs side.

Spurs did a lap of honour to celebrate their win in what was their first home game of the season.

And former Toffees striker Richarlison offered his match-worn shirt to a young Everton fan.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison, speaking to Sky Sports: "The scoreline is quite devastating when you look at 4-0. I think we thoroughly deserved it. We dominated and we felt we should have had three points last Monday [against Leicester].

"We all know Yves' [Bissouma] ability. He is a ridiculous player at times. He has got a skill not many have. The gaffer is a great man with good morals. He [Yves] has to keep working hard.

"The performance was there on Monday. It was a case of not putting our chances away. It's important you try and put into practice what the manager wants. It's about us trusting him."

Manchester United

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag speaking to TNT Sports: "Very disappointed. Especially when you have control over long parts of the game and we are doing so well and controlling the game in possession. Two unnecessary goals, very avoidable."

On whether the goals could have been avoided: "Yeah. That is our feeling. We conceded two soft goals when we should have done better as a team. We have to be aligned in such moments. What to do and that everyone knows their job and as a team they protect their goal."

On what he liked about the performance: "We had possession, we created chances and we showed resilience. We scored a winning goal or so we thought but it was touched by Joshua Zirkzee just before the line so that was a pity and was disappointing but I can take positives from the performance."

On bringing Joshua Zirkzee on for Mason Mount at half-time: "It was a decision because Mount had an issue, We know the issue of Mason so therefore we took him out but also Joshua had a good impact in the game."

"Before half-time we had three or four good opportunities and two or three very good chances so we should have been winning at half-time. You cannot drop points, so unnecessary. Football is about details. We have to do better in those situations."

On reports about signing Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain: "I don't have any update on anything regarding transfers. We always look for better. When we have news we will report it and in this moment I have not heard anything so I don't think there is anything to tell."

On anymore ingoing or outgoings: "As I said, when we have news, we will report it and now we don't have news."

Brighton & Hove Albion

On the current positivity at Brighton: "Of course it's positive but we know we have a lot to improve. In the end in both games we had the momentum on our side, you have to work for the momentum and I'm happy that we did this.

"I also know that we have to play better, more consistent in the 90 minutes, we have to control the game better. I know there's a lot of work to do and we should focus on the process not the results."

On Billy Gilmour: "I said he doesn't have to prove to anyone how good he is. I know what he can do, I know how he can help the team and I also see it every day in training. That's why it was no surprise."

On whether the goals could have been avoided: "Of course, maybe but it is part of the game. We came here to win and unfortunately we didn't win. I don't want to talk about mistakes because we win together and we lose together. We have a big game coming next week and we have to win."

On how the team will cope with the defeat: "Only can be positive because through the tough times, we have to be together. We will look at the videos and be together. We are here to win and we have to look at what we did wrong so I have no doubt about that."

On the ambitions for the season: "To win everything. We know what this shirt means so we have to go for every trophy we face, it's one of the biggest clubs in the world."

On the new signings: "It's good to have a lot of options. Manchester United players have to adapt, each player has to be available for the Mister and he makes the decision."

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler, speaking to TNT Sports: "Winners in the last minute are always emotional. I was very emotional of course but I also know that we could lose this match because we didn't control the game consistently. But in the end the most important for me was the attitude of the players, they never gave up. I always talk about togetherness and for me the whole squad is important. That brought us the win in the end."

On Danny Welbeck's importance for the team: "A leader and a role model. That's why off the pitch he's very important for me. I have a lot of good talks with him, I can learn a lot from his knowlesge. On top of that he's a very good player and I'm very happy for him. That's why I'm very happy he got this goal today."

On the variety of attacking options Brighton have: "I think it gives us every time the chance to make the opponent make decisions. If one player is tired or doesn't have the best phase, we can bring another very good player in and the opponent struggles. On top of that it brings a lot of competition also in training so they have to be demanding and prove themselves. That's very good for me as a coach because compeititon improves individual players."

On how he felt after Joshua Zirkzee's disallowed goal: "I don't know what I think about the situation. I was a little bit not happy about the phase in the game because we struggled with controlling the game. I think these were my thoughts. I won't complain about the goal from the opponent too much because you have to think of solutions and how you can think of the future."

On whether Brighton will make any more moves in the transfer market: "Let's see what happens. I won't talk about players who have not signed yet in public, I think it's very important that every player knows the plans and then we try and give transparency but it's not for the public."
