Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "We had to change momentum, we had a 10-minute gap when we didn't get the rhythm and they were on top.

"They had the big chance that David [Raya] made an unbelievable save and it is was the magic moment of the game. I gave his moment to him [Trossard] to control the game."

On David Raya: "We conceded really little and it's a big credit to the team as it is a difficult place to come, but when we needed him he was there and he made a terrific save."

On Bukayo Saka and the team: "Not just him [Saka], but everybody played with a lot of personality. Aston Villa had a defensive approach than what we expected, but we adapted and the team played with a lot of courage.

"Again, when you need individuals they stood up and they made themselves count - that's why we won the game."

On psychologicalbenefits: "The two previous performances [against Aston Villa] on paper you have to win comfortably and we didn't so there was something missing - today we did it.

"With a bit of luck and individual performances we managed to win the game."

Paul C: People say we need a striker and we probably do but we were second highest scorers last season and have four goal in two games this season so it isn’t like we are desperate. Given his misses today if we had Watkins, who we’ve been linked to before, we may not have won against Villa.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We played competitively and faced them. We were more or less safe and we had our chance to score and had even better chances than them. The first half was a little bit more them than us. The second half we created two very good chances to score.

"If we score one goal then maybe we win the match. I accept the result today because I think we are doing our way and trying to improve our things and develop as well. It is the second day in the Premier League and we can learn and improve more.

"We want to be here with our supporters here in Villa Park, playing and getting comfortable and keeping the same way as we did last year. There's still work to do. We will improve and use those matches we played against West Ham and today to understand our way. We will try to be in the top 10, the top six.

"I am happy and if we were scoring goals then maybe we would be winning. With Arsenal, we feel we are close to getting a performance. The players will stay calm and have two days rest and then get ready for the match against Leicester."

Aston Villa

Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers speaking to Sky Sports: "Outside both boxes we had the better of it through the majority of the game, I felt we were really good, I felt we we competed. Obviously we know they are a good team so we had to give up some areas, but we contained them really well."

On Ollie Watkin's missed chances: "He's our talisman, we rely on him, we know he'll score them. We're not going to question that. It's one of those things, it happens. We gave a good account of ourselves. It's one of those games we have to dust ourselves down and move on."

On Arsenal: "We watched them, analysed them and tried to come up with a game plan to stop their threats. We had to wait and pounce and capitalise when we could and I think we did that. We caught them out, surprised them.

"That's what football is about, it's chess, it's two top managers trying to combat each other and that's what it was. Unfortunately we didn't get that end bit."

On his own performance: "I'm getting better and better, more comfortable within the team, tying to impress, trying to shine, I would prefer it to be in a winning way. I want to go better, score goals, create and wins game for the team."

You spend most of the 90 minutes on the bench, have the added frustration of losing and are then out to do box-to-box runs. What a way to spend your Saturday evening.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya speaking to Sky Sports: "Everyone is a hero because we work together. It's not just me saving the ball. It was a crucial moment in the game where it was 0-0 and they had chances and I was there to save Ollie's [Watkins] header.

"I think of what I remember, it's a shot from outside the box. I'm on the floor so I try to get up and I can't reach it. I just see Ollie going in there so I react as quickly as possible I put my hand there and there's no one there to get the ball.

"It's just a repetition of things. You do drills and have to save one ball and get up to save another. This time it paid off. This is a reaction one, I don't think it's my best save.

"I try to help the team as much as possible to win games."

Chris Lord: Last year Villa took advantage of the fact we didn’t score our chances, this year we did. You create your own luck.

Arsenal lost both of their Premier League meetings with Aston Villa last term.

They are already three points better off this time around in those game as Mikel Arteta and his team head over to applaud the jubilant away fans.

Two games in, they have six points on the board, have scored four times and are yet to concede.

Unai Emery will take a lot of positives from this performance. Villa have given them a good game and they could've been 2-0 up before Arsenal scored.

Emery can look at this game and think, 'they're not far away'.
