    Scotland 0-1 Morocco

It was a late kick off for those of us at home, but there was no way you could be caught drifting off to sleep during the 90 minutes played in Boston.

Sloppy defending allowed Ismael Saibari to rocket the Africa Cup of Nations champions - ranked the sixth best team in the world - into a sensational lead inside the opening two minutes.

But Scotland didn't just roll over. They tried, tried and tried again to level.

So much so, Steve Clarke's game plan even shocked a few.

A mixed bag. The first half, we were shell-shocked. The game plan, everything they'd have spoken about, goes in 90 seconds.

We weathered the storm and tactically we adjusted. Once we did that, we gained a bit of confidence and got closer to the Moroccans.

Scotland can take a lot of positives from the way they galvanised themselves.

    • This was the earliest ever winning goal in a 1-0 win in World Cup history, with Ismael Saibari's goal netted after 70 seconds. The previous earliest was England against Paraguay in 2006 (3rd minute).

    • Morocco’s opening goal, timed at 70 seconds, was the second fastest by an African nation in a World Cup match; Asamoah Gyan netted for Ghana against Czech Republic in 2006 after 68 seconds, which is the fastest.

A real mix of emotions last night.

Nightmarish start, a shaky first half, a promising ending - to both halves - all against a side who you can’t forget are champions of Africa, fifth in the world and predicted to go deep in this tournament by many.

At 72 seconds, you’d of bit the offering hand of at the scoreline reading just 0-1. At 94:72 on the clock, the Tartan Army were crying out for what they felt was a deserved equaliser.

A funny auld night, that one…

Scotland did not register a single effort on target against Morocco.

That's only happened once before for Scotland at a World Cup, in the 1-0 defeat to Denmark in 1986.

In fact, as Turkey failed to beat Paraguay, the United States are group D winners and will face a third-place finisher in the round of 32.

Mauricio Pochettino has led them to consecutive wins at a World Cup for the first time since 1930. As co-hosts they will be very, very happy with that.

Scotland aside, there were three other World Cup games which all have their respective talking points.

The United States eased past Australia with a dominant, high-energy, performance that saw them qualify for the last 32.

Haiti became the first team to be eliminated from the 2026 World Cup as Brazil put three past them Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha scoring twice.

And in the game that has not long finished, Turkey are also out of the World Cup following a 1-0 defeat to 10-man Paraguay.

    Good morning!

There were four games over the course of Friday evening and into the early hours as the second round of the group stage continued.

Scotland knew one point would all-but confirm their progression out of Group C, but made the worst possible start by conceding after just 70 seconds to fall to defeat against Morocco.

But it's not all bad news, as their hopes of a historic knockout place remain in their own hands with one group game to go ...
