I'm just looking down at Ryan Gravenberch who was the man of the match. I think you could have given that to him or Curtis Jones and Dominik were the outstanding pefrormers.

Chelsea were third in the Champions League table at one stage tonight. They end it down in 11th. All of a sudden their hopes of securing a top-eight finish - and an automatic place in the last 16 - look in the balance.

The Blues have 10 points from six games, two points behind eighth-placed Liverpool.

Chelsea's last two games are at home to Pafos on 21 January and away to Napoli - the champions of Italy - on 28 January.

Tottenham midfielder Xavi Simons speaking to TNT Sports: "Really happy to win another game at home with the fans. We have to continue, really happy.

"It's always a pleasure for me playing Champions League, I'm enjoying my dreams. Really happy to be here."

"It's a team that play man-to-man and you have to look for space and create chances. First half we had those chances but didn't score, luckily we had two goals in the second half."

On chat before taking penalty: "I wanted to take the first one but Mo [Kudus] came over, I really wanted to shoot the second one so happy he [Cristian Romero] gave it to me."

On building consistency: "That's what we're trying to do. Two games, two wins. The weekend will be a tough game at Forest, we hope we can continue this run."

A really impressive performance from Liverpool with the organisation and commitment of the players.

Did they deserve to get that penalty? Probably not but the fans won't care. It is a huge result away from home and it makes their life easier for themselves in terms of qualifying for the next round.

That Liverpool showing was reminiscent of an old-school Champions League performance.

Give nothing away and snatch a goal if you can.

Arne Slot must be absolutely delighted.

Liverpool might have been hard done by through the first VAR intervention for handball but they benefitted this time.

Again it was the different interpretation between uefa and the Premier League.

In England the tug on Wirtz’s shirt would have been seen as fleeting, or inconsequential. In the Champions League it’s enough for a VAR penalty.

In the Premier League the way Wirtz went down would have been taken into consideration too.

That is why Nick Woltemade didn’t get a penalty at Bournemouth.

Swings and roundabouts with or without VAR. Konate’s goal should have stood, but that was not a foul on Wirtz. Overall a fair outcome.

Well it is Oscars/awards season, is it too late to nominate Wirtz for those theatrics? How an experienced ref like Zwayer fell for what can only be first class acting.

    Steven

No way is that shirt pull enough to send Wirtz down. No Prem ref would give that. And I say that as a Liverpool fan.
