Tom Ince scored his first goal for Tranmere Rovers to earn a point against Port Vale, who continued their winless start to the League Two season.

Centre-back Bobby Faulkner was forced to fill in as an emergency goalkeeper for Tranmere, before Ince's strike cancelled out George Byers' first-half penalty to extend Rovers' unbeaten start under Darrell Clarke.

Joe Ironside brought down Jordan Lawrence-Gabriel inside the box on 18 minutes, and Byers slotted past Harrison Male to give Jon Brady's side a deserved lead, after Mo Faal had already gone close to netting the opener.

Tranmere failed to find the leveller before the break, and things got worse after the restart as Male was forced off due to injury, requiring Faulkner to don the gloves.

Vale should have been out of sight after the hour mark too, as Faal missed two close-range headers to double their lead.

And the Valiants paid for those misses, when Ince popped up with the equaliser on 72 minutes – sliding under the onrushing Jackson Smith for his first Rovers goal.
