It appears Southampton tried a quick goal kick, it hits one of his players and Fulham read it and score.

The ref's saying the goalkeeper took it before he gave him the permission too.

Strange one, that.

The referee was having none of it and the reason for the goal being disallowed is because the goal kick was taken too quickly.

Hmmm.

What has happened here then? Fulham have the ball in the back of the net but the referee says it won't count.

Daniel Peretz takes a goal kick and it bounces off the back of a player before Fulham stab into the empty net.

Fulham growing into this now.

Ryan Sessegnon's effort is blocked before Oscar Bobb's shot is also denied.

Fulham's midfield isn't the youngest so physicality might be a problem because Southampton really break at speed.

The space opens up for Oscar Bobb and he tries to whip into the bottom corner but it's well saved by Daniel Peretz.

That ball from the back, right-to-left, an angled 40-50 yard ball from Andersen to Chukwueze, is something that's going to happen a lot.

Good break from Southampton and the ball comes to Finn Azaz, who tries to shift across for Cyle Larin but it's intercepted and poked behind by a Fulham defender.

Fulham win a corner and Harrison Reed's outswinger is headed by Joachim Andersen but gathered easily by Daniel Peretz in the Southampton goal.

Southampton are prepared to knock long balls and run in behind as well as pass short - they're giving Fulham a problem

An update on the kit situation. Southampton's kit is actually a special commemorative kit to mark 50 years since their iconic FA Cup run in 1976.

Bobby Stokes scored the only goal in a 1-0 win as Saints stunned Manchester United to win the trophy.

Cyle Larin picks up the ball close to the byline and tries to dink it back over the top but there's no one there to meet the ball.

Positive start by Southampton, though.

Rather confusingly, the kits being worn by both sides are quite similar.

Both are wearing light shirts and socks with Southampton wearing navy shorts the only notable difference.

If I get them wrong, you know why.

It's International Women's Day and to mark it the Fulham players are wearing jackets with the names of women who have inspired them, including mothers, sisters and partners.

Lovely touch.

When Southampton appointed Tonda Eckert, they were languishing in the bottom half of the Championship and struggling to string wins together.

But in the 22 matches since then, they have reshaped their season.

Only one side has taken more points in that period and no team has scored more goals.

A seven-game unbeaten run, five wins and two draws, has carried Saints from 15th and 10 points outside the play-offs to eighth, now just four points off sixth place.

They will see the game today as genuinely winnable but, whether they are prioritising promotion to the Premier League or a decent cup run is the question.
