Every single week I fall further in love with Unai Emery, he’s awoken the sleeping giant that is Aston Villa and if he ever gets hold of the pot of gold the owners have I would love to see him take on the big boys without his hands tied behind his back.

  2. 'Farke's ability to be more adaptable has proved well'published at 22:49 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Leeds 3-1 Chelsea

    Steph Houghton
Former Manchester City and England captain on BBC Radio 5 Live

The worst thing for fans is if the manager is doing the same things over and over again and you are not seeing any change.

Farke's ability to be more adaptable and try to find a solution, it's actually proved well in the last two games, even if they got beaten late on by Man City.

In terms of performance and getting more out of your players and their strengths, it worked. You could see that the fans tonight admire that because you have been brave enough to recognise that you're in the Premier League and you are going to be brave and try to adapt and make something happen.

Don't underestimate how massive that result is for Leeds tonight, especially with other results going their way.

  4. 'Last game and a half could change Leeds' season'published at 22:47 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Leeds 3-1 Chelsea

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool and Aston Villa defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I was at the Villa game, there was a guy that got down onto the pitch by the dugout that was questioning Farke's decisions, a lot of fans were dismayed by the changes he made.

The last game and a half could change Leeds' season, with the new system and the belief. They look a completely different team now. They look a more organised, more compact team but also carry a threat going forwards and that is what you have got to have in the Premier League.

  5. 'We wanted the win today'published at 22:46 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Liverpool 1-1 Sunderland

    Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz speaking to Sky Sports: "We wanted to win and we got the draw so unlucky.

On his season so far: "I was very welcomed by the team. It is a very good team and I am very happy to be here. We are on a good way to come back and we are doing everything to come back and win games. We wanted the win today, we want to be on top of the table and we just have to keep working hard and hopefully things will change."

  6. 'Huge result for Farke'published at 22:45 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Leeds 3-1 Chelsea

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool and Aston Villa defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

That is a huge result for Daniel Farke.

They had just one win in eight going into this game. The second half against Man City at the weekend gave them that bit of belief and it allowed them to come out of the traps so quick tonight and put in a huge performance.

I don't know if he would have lost his job if they had lost this game, but there would have been a lot of people calling for his head.

  7. 'One-nil is never enough against Brentford'published at 22:44 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Arsenal 2-0 Brentford

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to BBC MOTD: "I'm really happy with the performance, the win, the clean sheet. We faced a really tough team. Brentford don't need much - just a throw-in, a set-piece.

"They're so good at generating this kind of thing. One-nil is never enough against them. You always know you will be tested by them at some point. They generated some dangerous throw-ins and there was one big save we had to make from a corner.

"Apart from that I thought we dominated the game and created the biggest chances but until you score to make it 2-0 the game is not over."

  8. 'One of those nights again'published at 22:43 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Liverpool 1-1 Sunderland

    Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones speaking to Sky Sports: "We've got the guys in the team that can play, score and assist. We have asked for more aggressiveness. Flo ran and tackled and it's just a shame that it goes down as an own goal.

"We are playing against a team that sat back a bit. It's one of those nights again."

  9. 'The players were so resilient'published at 22:42 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Burnley 0-1 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner speaking to BBC MOTD: "The players were so resilient and supported each other with a great mentality. The players are doing well and they have a clear structure in the game. We controlled the game well but it is not just the tactical side. The longer the game continued, the more we didn't have the legs and then it is just to fight.

On the ambitions: "We are not talking about the league table and the results. We are just talking about performances. We know that we can rely on our defensive shape and we will see what we can get. My conviction at the end of the season is that you will get what you deserve and I think we deserve a lot."

  10. 'Pleased with mentality, we dug it out'published at 22:41 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Wolves 0-1 Nott'm Forest

    Nottingham Forest

Forest manager Sean Dyche speaking to BBC MOTD: "These games are really tough. They're [Wolves] fighting for their lives and everyone is waiting for the one they win. They kept going and throwing things at us. I'm pleased with our mentality. You saw the way we dug it out, they threw a lot at us second half and we dealt with it well."

Relieved for Igor Jesus to score? "Not relief, they want rewards for their work and he worked hard and stayed strong. He kept his eye on the ball, brilliant cross in and he takes a couple of steps and it's brave. Tonight it was his night because it's a big win for us."

On VAR decision: "He [Dan Ndoye] doesn't move, he's just standing there - where do you want him to stand? I don't think the keeper saves it whether he sees it or not but it's gone against us. I don't see the point of it. All the people looking in the VAR studio I don't know why they have to send the referee to the screen.

"I like VAR it's valid in the game. It gives more balance. It's not good for the fans but sometimes as a manager your professional life depends on it. I'm bound to say tonight was wrong because on another night it could've cost us but thankfully it didn't."

On progression since appointment: "We've made some ground up and I'm pleased - they've listened, they've taken it into their games. I thought we played better on Sunday but we didn't get the reward, tonight we've had to grind it out and I'm pleased with the clean sheet too."

  12. 'It's the best feeling to score a goal'published at 22:39 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Brighton 3-4 Brighton

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, speaking to BBC MOTD: "It's the best feeling to score a goal and that's my job. It's been a while without that feeling. It's been a tricky period in my career. I've not had this since the manager came in but I kept working hard and you get your rewards.

On feeling after goal: "Just a bit of relief, really. I had a difficult run and it's nice to put that behind me. We started the game slowly but to react like that is nice.

On Unai Emery: "His voice was basically gone. He's so passionate and that's why we're doing so well. I can't speak highly enough of him."

  13. 'We have been hugely competitive in this division'published at 22:38 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Burnley 0-1 Crystal Palace

    Burnley

Burnley manager Scott Parker speaking to BBC MOTD: "The goal comes at a horrible moment for us. The fine margins have gone away from us tonight. We were the wrong side of the margins. My team tonight are experiencing a run like this for the first time.

"I asked for a brave show of quality and they did that to a man today. I've been relegated as a player and I have had success as a player. I can be complimentary of my players, a young team that showed their quality."

On the challenges for a newly-promoted team: "The quality is clear to see. We have been hugely competitive in this division. The facts are there is a big gap and we need to learn from that."

  14. 'Like we were waiting to get beat'published at 22:36 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Wolves 0-1 Nott'm Forest

    Wolves

Wolves boss Rob Edwards speaking to Sky Sports: "Really disappointed. Pretty angry from the levels on Sunday we got nowhere near that. We lost the game in the first half, no intensity. Didn't take risks, played too safe. It was almost like we were waiting to get beat and that hurts. Bit of a reaction in second half but not enough. Really disappointing night.

"I was looking forward to tonight, if we could've kept that level up from the weekend this was a game we could win. It wasn't a good game of football. I think if we had hit where we were on Sunday we could've got something from the game, could've won it.

"It wasn't a reflection of what I want my team to look like. The lads knew at half-time we weren't happy, there was a bit of a reaction but we need more. We kept going, got into some good areas, Jhon Arias could've got a goal and one or two half chances. But we have to be more ruthless, we have to find more.

"I don't think we gave loads away. I'm not going to blame quality, we have to find the answers. It was only three days ago that there was a lot of quality on show. It's there but we have to bring it out of ourselves."

Mental or physical problems? "Both - mentality and physical. We have to find a way to bring out the best in ourselves. The crowd will be with us if we show intent. They want to get behind the team but you have to run, fight and look like you want to win. That wasn't there tonight.

"We knew it was a big challenge coming in. That's really evident. We'll work to try and turn things around. We saw progress in the last week but this is a setback. We have to work hard to put things right in the next week."

  15. 'We kept the mentality and the resilience'published at 22:35 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Brighton 3-4 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery, speaking to BBC MOTD: "A very tough match. How we started and reacted is more like the season. The players reacted and continued with our game plan to never give up. We kept the mentality and the resilience, really fantastic.

"Our first three matches were much worse. The first goal was not a corner, I think. We conceded and then we were expecting a lot in the

"We reacted to scoring one goal and we started the game plan and they followed it. We are so thankful for the supporters- 4,000 of them with us here from Birmingham."

On Watkins: "Keep going. He needs those goals, he needs calm. He needs to keep going and get balance and he got it.

"Marco is a very, very good goalkeeper. he is always ready to play like today. Martinez was not ready to play and had some pain in his back. Marco is ready and he saved us with one good save in the 90th minute.

"The table is very important for us. We know how difficult it is. We needed to work hard and perform. We will play on Saturday against Arsenal at home. The teams behind us are going to push a lot. Be humble because we know how difficult it is to face teams in the Premier League."

  16. 'I don't want to see that again'published at 22:33 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Wolves 0-1 Nott'm Forest

    Wolves

Wolves manager Rob Edwards speaking to BBC MOTD: "Not a good night for us. Performance level was poor. The levels we set against Villa [on Sunday] we didn't get near that. Really frustrating.

"It's a mentality thing and a physical thing. We have to fight to win a game of football. In the first half we were very passive, back and sideways too much, didn't run forward enough. Physically we looked weak. Really frustrating. There was a reaction in the second half but we need more if we're going to win matches. The fans want to get behind this team I can feel that but tonight it was hard to get behind this team."

How to turn things around? "It's just working every day. We saw a good week of training and a good performance at the weekend. For whatever reason tonight they haven't turned up. We have to try and find the right way. That's only done with hard work and doing the right things every day.

"One or two half chances, we were fairly solid and we didn't give loads of chances away. There's some solidity there but the overriding feeling is that I don't want to see that again.

"I haven't felt a lack of belief, there is a fighting spirit. It was a different team that turned up today. We go away and try to turn things around."

  17. 'We unnerved Arsenal'published at 22:31 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Arsenal 2-0 Brentford

    Brentford

Brentford boss Keith Andrews, speaking to BBC MOTD: "I definitely felt we grew into the game and in the second half in particular we unnerved them. I wanted us to have a good go and we certainly did that. We could and should have scored from set pieces. It's coming [a goal from a set piece]. We're in a good place and look dangerous from set pieces."

On making five changes: "We have got a really good squad. I was very, very comfortable with our game-plan tonight."

    FT: Burnley 0-1 Crystal Palace

    Burnley

Burnley manager Scott Parker speaking to Sky Sports: "I think it's fair to say we should have got something from that game. We were on the wrong side of the fine margins. Overall, in terms of what this young team showed, the courage and the bravery was pleasing for me."

On Dean Henderson's save: "They're the fine margins. The fine margins didn't fall for us. We showed a real front foot. I can be encouraged and positive about how we have been hugely competitive in this division. I'm hugely encouraged and full backing from me in this group. We're 14 games into the season and we take each game as it comes.

"We're in for a huge battle, we need to be consistent in our behaviours. This is how it is and I have group that will relish and embrace this challenge. I see a brave group of men who are taking on this challenge."
