This is a big game for both Sunderland and Liverpool. Not something we would have been saying at the start of the season.

Liverpool'a £125m striker Alexander Isak cuts in from the left and hits a shot which is very high and very wide.

This is Maresca’s big weakness. Whilst he sets up fantastically for big games, he really gets it wrong against weak teams. It always puts Chelsea on the back foot.

    Leeds 1-0 Chelsea

A word of warning for Leeds, they took an early lead twice in November - against Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa - and lost both.

    HT: Wolves 0-0 Nott'm Forest

Wolves had just two touches in Nottingham Forest's penalty area in the first half, their fewest in the first half of a Premier League match since March 2025 v Southampton (also 2).

This is just the second match in the Premier League this season in which neither team registered a single shot on target in the first half along with Crystal Palace v Sunderland in September, with all eight shots attempted in the first period (7 for Forest, 1 for Wolves) being off target.

  9. 'An excellent Leeds start'published at 20:31 GMT 3 December 2025

    Leeds 1-0 Chelsea

    Chris Coles
BBC 5 Sports Extra Commentator at Elland Road

Leeds almost score again, and from another corner. Strujk doesn't get the power on the header. It's been an excellent Leeds start.

  10. Postpublished at 20:31 GMT 3 December 2025

    Leeds 1-0 Chelsea

Leeds almost bag another goal from a corner. This time Pascal Struijk doesn't get enough direction on his glanced header and it bounces just beyond Dominic Calvert-Lewin at the far post.

  11. Postpublished at 20:30 GMT 3 December 2025

    Leeds 1-0 Chelsea

Leeds United's opener (5:24) was the earliest Chelsea have conceded from a corner in a Premier League game since January 2011 v Wolves (Bosingwa own goal - 4:18).

Is Ollie Watkins back to his best?

The England forward hadn't scored since 28 September, but he's got two in 15 minutes at Brighton, with his equaliser coming in the seventh minute of additional time.

    Watkins tonight:

    • Four attempts
    • Three on target
    • Two goals

    Liverpool 0-0 Sunderland

At the start of the season I think we'd all have had this pegged as a routine home win. And yet Sunderland currently sit above Liverpool in the table.

  14. 'System really suits Leeds'published at 20:28 GMT 3 December 2025

    Leeds 1-0 Chelsea

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool and Aston Villa defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

This system really suits Leeds. Calvert-Lewin likes having Nmecha alongside him, and Nmecha likes having someone who is more physical with him.

The fans were crying out for Gnonto and James on the wings, Farke tried it and it didn't work. The physicality of the Premier League doesn't suit them. But they have stumbled upon this and it is working.

  15. Maresca is predictably animated on the touchlinepublished at 20:28 GMT 3 December 2025

    Leeds 1-0 Chelsea

    Nizaar Kinsella
    BBC Sport Chelsea reporter

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca looks concerned about how bad his side's start has been after conceding from a fourth shot on goal within just six minutes.

That poor start has been because Leeds have been in Chelsea's faces.

As I said in my previous post, Maresca will have predicted much of Leeds's tactics after watching them against Manchester City, where they were unfortunate not to get a point at the Etihad Stadium.

  16. 'Brilliant pass, great finish'published at 20:26 GMT 3 December 2025

    HT: Brighton 2-2 Aston Villa

    Conor Coady
Wrexham defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

It was a fantastic ball from Morgan Rogers. Sometimes we look at defenders and question whether they were ready to run back, but it was a brilliant, brilliant pass and a great finish from Ollie Watkins.

  17. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:25 GMT 3 December 2025

    Brighton 2-2 Aston Villa

An incident-packed game between two attack-minded teams. Will it stay 2-2 - probably not.

  18. Postpublished at 20:25 GMT 3 December 2025

    Leeds 1-0 Chelsea

Leeds United's Jaka Bijol is just the fourth Slovenian to score a goal in Premier League history.

I'm going to guess unless you're Slovenian you wouldn't get the other three - Robert Koren, Jon Gorenc Stankovic and Benjamin Sesko.

  19. Postpublished at 20:25 GMT 3 December 2025

    Liverpool 0-0 Sunderland

Liverpool have the first chance of this fixture as Dominik Szoboszlai's 25-yard effort is straight at Robin Roefs.

No surprise that Leeds are dominating this. Taking out both James and Fofana while also missing Caicedo is just asking for problems.
