Leicester manager Steve Cooper, speaking to Sky Sports: “We know where the level of refereeing is now. We’ve known for a number of years. We just need to take a step back and say ‘this is how it is’.

“What really needs looking at is that we have to go to a Premier League meeting. We have club visits and the big message that the threshold on tackles is going to be a lot higher.

“You take that into training and everything – then you get that. I took time out of the game a bit last season and you look at it a bit more neutrally. You realise it’s just where refereeing is.

“Without going off on one – we obviously could today – we just have to hope that, some weeks, we’ll be the lucky team. Unfortunately that wasn’t today.”

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo, speaking to BBC MOTD: "First half the game was not in the rhythm - too much disruption. The rhythm of the game for both teams was lose possession, a disrupted game. One positive is we scored and the negative is we conceded so quickly.

"It changed in the second half, we were more dominant and we put Wolves against the ropes."

On Morgan Gibbs-White's England call-up: "Something that was his expectation, he works really hard everyday to achieve his goals. For us as a club we are proud and we wish him all the best."

On the transfer window closing: "The credit for the squad is the way they integrate and help each other. We have James [Ward-Prowse] and Morato joining us."

Dias feels like he needs to go for it there's actually nobody in the box that looks like they're going to get on the end of it. West Ham are back in this game without actually really seeing the ball.

Manchester City are looking to finish this one off quickly. Jeremy Doku runs down the right and feeds Kevin de Bruyne, who produces a delightful curled effort with Alphonse Areola rooted to the spot.

The ball bounces off the right upright and Jack Grealish shoots narrowly over.

Almost a second for Manchester City and once again West Ham are caught in possession.

Kevin de Bruyne leads the charge forwards, slides it to Jack Grealish, who cuts inside and has a shot deflected.

De Bruyne then has another chance himself, but Alphonse Areola does well to produce a spectacular one-handed save to tip the ball over the top.

West Ham all over the place at the moment.

West Ham will be kicking themselves because they gave the ball away in a dangerous area to a team like City who can just punish you.

They'll be so disappointed with that.

Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank to BBC Match of the Day: "They made errors because we pressed them unbelievably well. I think we are one of the best teams to do the high pressure in the Premier League, in my opinion. the players are so committed and that is the reason why we capitalised on errors from Southampton. It's up to us to take the chances. I still think we missed some big chances.

"Overall, I'm satisfied, always want more but we are on track with how we want to play and how we want to do.

"Ivan is a fantastic player, I'd love to have him in the team but he has his own journey and going elsewhere. Our style of play hasn't changed. Wissa and Ivan are different players but the style doesn't change.

"It seems like I don't want to talk about Ivan [Toney]. I love to talk about Ivan but it seems like it's about when he's going to leave or a ban. He's a wonderful player and person."

Kevin de Bruyne collects the pass from Jack Grealish and strikes low at goal but there are too many home bodies in the way for the ball to get through.

Erling Haaland, who scored a hat-trick last time out in City's 4-1 thumping of Ipswich Town, has an early chance. Bernardo Silva and Jack Grealish linked up on the left side of the penalty area, but the big Norwegian could only head it over the bar.

Southampton

Southampton boss Russell Martin to BBC Match of the Day: "We made two mistakes that we were punished for, which is frustrating and disappointing. The details and structure of the team are not right. The players are doing what I've asked but the positions are not right. You get punished in the Premier League. We missed so many chances. I'm glad we did score because we might relax. We turned the ball over too cheaply, we crossed too early.

"I saw lots of good things to feel positive about. I feel a lot better this week than I did after the Nottingham Forest game.

"My job is to give them the positions on the pitch and to give them a certain level of clarity on the pitch and I think I feel. They're trying so hard and the intention is brilliant but they need to trust the work and trust each other because that's what's got us here.

"I knew it was going to be the narrative from the start of the season. The frustrating thing is we could have scored a couple of goals today but we made a couple of mistakes. Aaron [Ramsdale] was brilliant today on his debut and the fans will fall in love with him quickly."

Leicester City

Leicester manager Steve Cooper, speaking to Match of the Day: “I thought we looked a good team at times today. We definitely didn’t deserve to lose the game. For the first goal, we need to own the set play – but it should never have been a free-kick.

“We’ve not just gone toe-to-toe with a Champions League team, we’ve also looked a better team than them. It’s a tough one to take. It’s three games now without a win, which is obviously not what we wanted.

“In the three games we’ve seen, we’ve seen more than enough in the performances to feel like we’re going to be OK [in the Premier League]. We’re disappointed with the defeat, but if we stay as we are and improve in areas we want to, we’ll be all right.”

On referee David Coote: “It’s just something that you accept. That’s how it is across the league. When you see it a bit more casually, you notice it even more. It’s something you have to contend with, but you take a deep breath and accept that’s how it is.

“You’ll tell by the reaction of the supporters. We had a managers’ meeting at the start of the season about the threshold of challenges. The threshold is going to be higher, and today was the complete opposite.”

Panic for Manchester City early on. Mohammed Kudus crosses from the left and it is an excellent delivery, but Michail Antonio, only a few yards out, is denied an early goal at the back post thanks to some excellent strong defending from Josko Gvardiol.

West Ham then have another chance, with Ederson punching clear Jarrod Bowen's effort.

Away we go at London Stadium, with Manchester City looking to maintain their perfect start to the season.

We have had a fine tribute and a minute's applause for Sven Goran Eriksson, the former England boss who passed away recently.

Eriksson was Manchester City's manager in the 2007-08 season.
