What a difference a month makes.

Southampton slipped to a 2-1 home defeat by Hull City on 17 January and there were genuine concerns they could get pulled into the relegation battle.

Five weeks on they've won four and drawn one of their past five league games and are through to the last 16 in the FA Cup.

Charlton boss Nathan Jones endured a miserable three months in charge of Saints in 2022-23 and will be keen to avenge the 5-1 shellacking his side were on the receiving end in the first game between these two in November.

  2. An unexpected play-off push battle?published at 14:45 GMT 21 February

    Norwich v Birmingham (15:00 GMT)

The Northern Ireland international says the team are taking it 'one game at a time'.

When Philippe Clement took over the head coaching role at Norwich City, there was just one thing Canaries fans wanted - to stay in the Championship.

Well, a few months have gone by and it looks like Clement might not do that after all. Instead, he might be looking at a potential run at the Premier League - albeit, they are still nine points away from the top six.

"Fans will get excited," Norwich defender Ruairi McConville told BBC Radio Norfolk. "Yes, we still have a job to secure our safety in the division, but the best way to do that is to look ahead and look for the play-offs.

"Who knows what will happen? Hopefully it ends with us being in the play-offs, but we're ready for any challenge."

Can Clement perform a miracle to take the side from woeful relegation battlers to hopeful promotion contenders?

One side who will want to stop that from happening is today's visitors, Birmingham City, who themselves have only lost one of their past 10 league games to leave them just two short points away from the play-offs, a place Blues have been aiming for all season.

  3. Pompey wary of roaring Lionspublished at 14:43 GMT 21 February

    Millwall v Portsmouth (15:00 GMT)

Portsmouth head coach John Mousinho gives an injury update and looks ahead to Millwall

Millwall's form as of late has marked them as true promotion contenders this season. Only one of their past 10 league games ended in defeat and of the remaining nine, they've won six.

Not the side that relegation-threatened Portsmouth want to be visiting after a victory at Charlton on Tuesday ended a two-match losing streak, overcoming some wobbly away form, and put themselves four points clear of the bottom three.

Pompey did take a 3-1 win in the reverse fixture in November but boss John Mousinho knows the side awaiting them at the Lion's Den is not so meek and wounded.

"When they came to Fratton Park, they were in an injury crisis that they are over now," Mousinho told BBC Radio Solent.

"We've got a very different challenge on our hands off the back of the past couple of games and we will have to deal with that the best we can."

  4. Fighting for the pointspublished at 14:41 GMT 21 February

    Middlesbrough v Oxford (15:00 GMT)

    MiddlesbroughImage source, PA Media

A proper top-and-bottom clash on Teesside today with Boro and Oxford both desperate for a win.

Boro were knocked down to second with defeat at Coventry the other night but are stiil brilliantly placed for a return to the Premier League while Oxford are six points adrift of safety with 14 games remaining and staring at a return to League One.

Boro boss Kim Hellberg is expecting to freshen up his side with a typically Championship schedule on the cards.

"Now it becomes a shorter amount of days in between the games, which means that we need to use the squad in a little bit of a different way," he said.

“That will be important to keep the energy up, to give players the opportunity to balance the energy. It will be about where you can find the best team and the best players for the next game we’re going to play."

Whew! West Bromwich escape the drop into the bottom three, with thank you cards to send to Stoke City's Ben Wilmot.

And this is just the beginning. What can our 15:00 GMT games bring to the table?

Well, the race for sixth place will enter it's hottest stage yet as Derby, Wrexham, Southampton, Birmingham City and Watford all aim for the position.

While Middlesbrough will just be trying to stay in touch of a victorious Coventry.

What a breathless finale! For the neutral, that was a wonderful second-half. For Stoke fans Ben Willmott gave them something that their first half deserved but on this showing Leicester will have no problem staying up.

Gary Rowett’s side were full of drive and desire after being completely dire before the break. They should have held on, or got that late winner, you can read it either way.

I’m going for a lie down!!

A slight repreive for West Brom fans as that late Stoke leveller against Leicester keeps them out of the drop zone for now.

At the top, Coventry are munching their way towards promotion...

    We should have won it.

Luke Thomas right at the end, he got there, and those are the moments that you have to take your chances and take all three points.

The desire and passion shown by the players in that second half, the belief to get back into a game where you've suffered adversity, after a first half where I couldn't see where a goal would come from.

I saw the passion and belief in that second half, the fans got behind the team.

  9. 'That is the perfect template for playing away'published at 14:31 GMT 21 February

    FT: West Brom 0-2 Coventry

    Steve Ogrizovic
Ex-Coventry City goalkeeper on BBC CWR

They've done what they needed to do, there's been lots of talk about them being poor away from home this season.

We said we needed a clean sheet, we got that, we said we needed to be more aggressive going forward and we did that.

That is the perfect template for playing away, potentially even boring but clinical in front of goal.

  10. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:29 GMT 21 February

    Hull City 1-3 QPR

A first win away from home for QPR since 26 November.

A game that was drifting to a draw before R's sub Daniel Bennie lashed in a beauty from 25 yards out to put the the away side back in front late on and Richard Kone added gloss in time added on.

Three home games without a win for promotion-chasing Hull City who seem unlikely to challenge the top two now.

At the death, Leicester's Luke Thomas whacked the woodwork with his header to spoil a possible win.

Stoke keeper Tommy Simkin made multiple saves.

The Foxes did everything they could to take that victory. Everything. But alas, no dice.

    Richard Kone (90+5 mins)

    THIS time he finishes it!

Richard Kone, who had blown a couple of very good changes in the past few minutes, goes through on the inside left and finishes with quality into the far corner.

    Game over.

  13. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:26 GMT 21 February

    Stoke 2-2 Leicester

Stoke skipper Ben Wilmot denies Leicester City a stonking second half comeback to share the spoils.

The Potters defender was left to his own devices at the back post to punt in Sorba Thomas' pinpoint cross after the Foxes took the lead after goals from Manchester City loanee Divine Mukasa and Harry Winks.

Leicester's summer signing Mukasa looks to have been a profitable loan deal for the Foxes after the 18-year-old bags a goal and an assist.

But there is still work to do for new Leicester boss Gary Rowett as they miss out on the chance to exit the bottom three.
