Incredible day of results for Coventry. A rare win at The Hawthorns for the first away win since Boro in November and then being able to smile and watch and the four teams behind us drop points, with only Boro amongst them avoiding defeat. Glorious!

The rot runs deep at West Brom - recruitment decision-making has been consistently wide of the mark since Patel took over. Eric Ramsay is not wholly to blame but he’s not the answer either.

    Ben, Hampshire

No wins in eight games for Ramsay since he took over last month.

Albion head coach Eric Ramsay reacts following loss at Coventry.

West Brom boss Eric Ramsay spoke to BBC Radio WM following his side's 2-0 home defeat by leaders Coventry, which left them just one point above the relegation zone.

“I was extremely disappointed with the manner of the goals and to come away with nothing, which in our situation is far from ideal and not what we would want in any way.

“I felt we started the game positively and aggressively, we connected with the crowd and there was real energy. Then we really let ourselves down after five or six minutes. Unfortunately another goal followed that quickly and we gave ourselves a mountain to climb.

“There’s no easy answer to our position and if there was an easy answer, someone would have arrived at it by now. We have to make sure we keep the approach, where we grind away, we don’t get distracted, we make sure we push the messages we feel are important day to day and that the group responds to those.”

Coventry City head coach Frank Lampard reflects on the 2-0 win against West Brom.

Coventry's win away at struggling West Brom in the early kick-off strengthened their lead at the top of the table.

Manager Frank Lampard spoke to BBC CWR Radio:

“The overall professionalism of the game pleased me, how we approached it, we scored two fantastic goals of real quality in different ways. We were never really threatened by them.

“In the second half, we wanted to be a bit more compact, with a mid-block, and it make it harder for them because we could feel a little bit of anxiety in the stadium. The players delivered all those messages, which you have to do to get a good away win and a good away performance like this.

“It was a great goal from Ephron [Mason-Clarke]. The ball was won back, the timing of it, his run through the backline, a great finish and he showed a real calmness. That gave us a good feeling, but we’ve lost some away games when we’ve gone a goal up, but we carried it on and then Rudi’s goal was special.

“I’m delighted for him individually, how he’s been training, how he’s been playing. He’s looked fitter and fresher and he’s got a goal which is of the highest level.”

  5. 'Missed opportunity for Boro'published at 17:17 GMT 21 February

    FT: Middlesbrough 0-0 Oxford

    Nathan Albon
BBC Radio 5 Live sport at the Riverside

As the gulls swoop around the Riverside looking for tasty morsels… no such delights for Middlesbrough today.

Real sense of opportunity missed as second from top played second from bottom.

Oxford clung on at times, but came with a clear gameplan. They came on the team bus, and they parked that bus… Blocks, tackles, clearances the lot.

And they were a threat on the break - twice hitting the woodwork through Stanley Mills and Myles Peart-Harris in the first half.

So Oxford drag themselves a little closer to safety, but they’re still five points adrift.

And Middlesbrough, who were two points clear before losing to Coventry on Monday, now find themselves two winless and three points behind the leaders.

Perfect day for Coventry! Just what we need going into a tricky midweek away game.

    Tim, London

What a day for Coventry - three points and the next three dropping points.

    Steve, Leamington Spa

Oxford doing to Boro what they did to us (Cov) two weeks ago made a great day even sweeter. Thanks go to Pompey, too.

    Hadrian, Coventry

After a rough few weeks, the Championship table makes VERY happy reading for Sky Blues fans right now.

Oxford, who are second bottom, have now drawn 0-0 away at the top two in the past two weeks.

  7. Wrexham win top six race... for now!published at 17:12 GMT 21 February

An utterly bonkers game between Wrexham and Ipswich lifts the Red Dragons into sixth and well deserved after a 5-3 victory.

Things don't feel as good for Middlesbrough though, who drop two points off league leaders Coventry and, considering the goal difference, put themselves out of striking distance.

So, the Sky Blues celebrate more time at the top with a victory over West Bromwich Albion. Though it's not all bad news for the Baggies.

Stoke City's 89th minute equaliser against Leicester City means the Foxes remain in the bottom three and Albion survive another week without dropping into the relegation zone by the skin of their teeth.

Sheffield Wednesday also evade a devastating fate, avoiding relegation with Albion's loss, but that may not be so after tomorrow's Steel City derby.

  8. 'Oxford sussed Middlesbrough out'published at 17:10 GMT 21 February

    FT: Middlesbrough 0-0 Oxford

    Eddie Odhiambo
Former Oxford defender on BBC Radio Oxford

Oxford almost sussed Middlesbrough out immediately, they knew they would try and overload the central areas.

Middlesbrough didn't try and change the plan at all, they didn't try and use the width, that meant that Oxford had to work hard to stay resolute, but they did it well today.

Matt Bloomfield wants to play an attractive style of football but there has got to be a basis for that and I think we saw that today with a resolute defence.

And breathe. What a remarkably ridiculous contest.

Funnily enough, it's the second time Wrexham have come from behind to win 5-3 in the Championship this season.

The 10,610 fans in attendance certainly got value for money today.

  10. 'Our goalkeeper is our playmaker, how bad is that?'published at 17:05 GMT 21 February

    FT: Wrexham 5-3 Ipswich

    Alex Mathie
Former Ipswich Town striker on BBC Radio Suffolk

    Wrexham deserved that.

I thought when we went 3-2 up we would go on, we got the goal and then we sat back passing the ball around on the edge of our box, we put pressure on ourselves and they punished us.

I'm all for playing around the back if it is crisp and quick, but it was so slow today, it's just a case of them thinking the game is won at 3-2 with 25 minutes to go.

We have to keep doing the things that got us into the lead, the pressing, you're not going to score goals in our own half.

We need to be looking forwards first and we don't do that, our goalkeeper is our playmaker, how bad is that?

    Southampton 1-1 Charlton

Former Southampton boss Nathan Jones and his side get some modicum of revenge for the 5-1 defeat in the reverse of this fixture earlier this season.

The Saints had 20 efforts at goal to Charlton's six AND had over 70% possession but couldn't find a winner.

Norwich pull one back but can't steal away Blues first half lead.

The Canaries pulled themselves together in the second half, rewarded when Kenny McLean was gifted a recycled ball at his feet and struck it cleanly at goal.

But they couldn't find a second and Blues edge ever closer to the top six.

Millwall looked back in the game shortly after when Casper de Norre found the net but it wasn't to be when three minutes later Pompey skipper Marlon Pack made it three.

Damage done to the Lions' pride but Portsmouth will go to bed pleased with a six-point cushion on the bottom three.
