    France 0-2 Spain

    Chris Sutton
Former England forward on BBC Radio 5 Live at Dallas Stadium

This Spanish team have been absolutely superb. Marc Cucurella appears at the right time to make a crucial clearance.

It is alright having the best forwards, but if you're getting mauled in midfield, then that's going to be a problem.

  2. Postpublished at 90+1 mins

    France 0-2 Spain

Seven minutes separate Spain from a second World Cup final appearance. The Spanish fans give it the 'ole, ole' treatment every time they touch the ball.

  3. Postpublished at 90 mins

    France 0-2 Spain

Excellent defending from Marc Cucurella inside his own penalty area just as Kylian Mbappe was able to strike, but Cucurella sends it behind for a corner.

Eventually from that set piece, Manu Kone can only flight a ball through the 18-yard box and behind for a goal kick.

Time running out for France. Kylian Mbappe has a free-kick just beyond the corner of the box, but over it goes.

Another chance comes to nothing for France.

    France 0-2 Spain

    Chris Sutton
Former England forward on BBC Radio 5 Live at Dallas Stadium

Kylian Mbappe's head has gone. Unai Simon takes his time and he lures Mbappe.

Mbappe bites and bashes into the Spanish goalkeeper.

    France 0-2 Spain

If anything shows the frustration that France are feeling, then Kylian Mbappe has just provided it. Jumping into goalkeeper Unai Simon in a petulant, stroppy way. Mbappe gets yellow.

Spain's players will be happy at their main opposition threat struggling to stay composed.

  7. 'France need a spark'published at 21:48 BST

    France 0-2 Spain

Former England forward on BBC Radio 5 Live at Dallas Stadium

France need something, they need a spark, but it is Spain who are still controlling the game.

For Mbappe and co. It looks like they will be going home.

Spain have smothered, they have suffocated France in the middle of the park.

This is Deschamp's mistake. He didn't learn from the Euros, where Spain did something similar. He should have played with an extra midfielder with a 4-3-3 shape. France's attackers are not known to press, especially Mbappe.

    France 0-2 Spain

Didier Deschamps has been in charge of France for 14 years. He is 10 minutes away from ending that reign at the semi-final phase of this World Cup, having guided France to victory in 2018 and runners-up in 2022.

  10. 'Simon has been so decisive'published at 21:46 BST

    France 0-2 Spain

    Chris Sutton
Former England forward on BBC Radio 5 Live at Dallas Stadium

Unai Simon has been so decisive all game. Theo Hernandez with an under lap and he is entitled to go for the ball, but Simon pounces and then there's a bit of a follow-through.

  11. Postpublished at 85 mins

    France 0-2 Spain

Brave goalkeeping from Spain's Unai Simon, sliding at the feet of Theo Hernandez. Both players get clattered into by the other, but all fairly and with great commitment. In the end a goal kick, after a corner had been originally awarded, is the final call.

    Mbappe touch map

Kylian Mbappe has been caught offside three times today - more than any other player.

He has only had one shot all game and won just two of his eight duels.

  13. 'Simon does really well'published at 21:44 BST

    France 0-2 Spain

    Chris Sutton
Former England forward on BBC Radio 5 Live at Dallas Stadium

Unai Simon does really well. Judgement perfect, but he popped the ball to Desire Doue. I think Doue should have been more decisive and gone for goal.

A chance for France to claw one back. Unai Simon has to dash out of the penalty area and head the ball away, it drops to Desire Doue, but he can't get the shot away instantly.

By the time he has gathered the ball, Simon has got back into the penalty area and makes the block.

    France 0-2 Spain

While Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele are still on the pitch, this game is not over yet. France need those two to do something special and do it now.

In all the pre-match predictions, few would have tipped this game to have gone like this.

I thought that was in. Ferran Torres, eight yards out, went back across the goalkeeper. Inches wide of Mike Maignan's right-hand post.

    France 0-2 Spain

Ferran Torres, who only just came on a few minutes ago, replacing goalscorer Mikel Oyarzabal, can only send a header just wide.

Pedri and Arsenal's Mikel Merino are also on for Spain, with Fabian Ruiz and Dani Olmo the other two to come off.

I’ve said from the very first game, this France side has an unbelievable forward line, but defensively and in midfield, they are so unbelievably average. Nobody really went after them, and the first team that has has absolutely ripped them apart. It’s great stuff to see.

  20. 'Yamal should go in the book'published at 21:39 BST

    France 0-2 Spain

    Chris Sutton
Former England forward on BBC Radio 5 Live at Dallas Stadium

Lamine Yamal should go in the book here. Didier Deschamps looks like he is going to combust.
