This is a masterclass from Spain so far in how to negate that French front line.

    France 0-1 Spain

Spain will know their lead is still a fragile one. Goalkeeper Unai Simon runs out of his penalty area and produces a sliding challenge as if he is the right-back. He needed to be spot on, and he was, getting to the ball just before Kylian Mbappe could nick it past him.

France need to be braver on the ball in the middle of the park. Spain are pressing them, and they're the more aggressive team. When you think about how impotent Kylian Mbappe has been in this first half. He has hardly had a touch of the ball.

Arguably the best front three at this tournament but France are toothless if they can't get the ball out of their own half. Spain are bullying them all across the pitch.

Mike Maignan with a poor clearance.

A quick one-two and Fabian Ruiz gets across. That is as good as a goal that block from Dayot Upamecano. It keeps France a goal down.

If Spain got a second, that would have been a long, long way back.

Nearly a brilliant team move goal for Spain. Goalkeeper Mike Maignan with a poor clearance out for France and it is one-touch and beautiful from Spain, involving Dani Olmo and Lamine Yamal, but Fabian Ruiz can only prod the ball wide under pressure from Dayot Upamecano.

Overloads everywhere for Spain. Adrien Rabiot is trying to rally his troops and get his team going. They have not been good enough or slick enough on the ball.

Bradley Barcola cuts in from the left flank and tries his luck. Plenty of whip on the strike, but too much height and over it goes.

Spain's Marc Cucurella gets a yellow card for clattering into Michael Olise, not just once but twice. Can't have any complaints.

A goal down, and now France have to replace influential defender William Saliba.

He slowly walks off and is replaced by Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix, who helped the Eagles win the Conference League at the end of last season. What a period for Lacroix.

Gunners and France fans will be hoping Saliba recovers quickly. Arsenal play Manchester City in the Community Shield on 16 August and their first Premier League game, at home to Coventry, is only on 21 August - one month and two days after the World Cup final.

That may be the end to William Saliba's World Cup.

He wasn't under great pressure. He turned around and sat on the deck. He is walking off...

With no-one near him, Arsenal's William Saliba has gone down injured. Maybe a potential back injury, but France could be forced into an early change here.

How are France going to respond? They were happy to sit in a mid-block and counter-attack, but they need to be more on the front foot and take the game to Spain.
