Al-Hilal are increasingly confident of signing Karim Benzema, according to Saudi sources.

The Frenchman has been training alone after falling out with bosses of fellow Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad over a possible contract extension.

BBC Sport has also been told that Al-Hilal’s pursuit of Benzema is the principle reason for Cristiano Ronaldo’s frustration at rivals Al-Nassr.

I'm trying to think about the last time I had this much spare time on a transfer deadline day.

What happened to the days of players turning up at the car park of an interested club? Anyone spotted a player at a petrol station? Give us something!

Juventus have signed Manchester City striker Justin Oboavwoduo for £2.59m on a deal until 2028.

The 19-year-old leaves City's academy to join the Serie A side's Next Gen team - the Italian side's reserves.

Oboavwoduo scored five goals in six appearances for City in Premier League 2 this season.

City have includes clauses in the transfer with a 25% sell-on if Oboavwoduo were to move on from Juve, the option of a buy back as well as matching rights in case of a bid from another club.

Arsenal need cover for Merino, or do they? Does signing Oxlade Chamberlain as an additional player help or hinder? Not many options of the same quality as Merino. Maybe it's better if we stick with who we have, more minutes for Eze, Norgaard, Lewis Skelley, even Calafiori in midfield.

  5. Chelsea to complete 11 deals with Strasbourg by deadlinepublished at 18:38 GMT 2 February

    Nizaar Kinsella
    BBC Sport Chelsea reporter

Chelsea will have completed around 11 deals with Strasbourg by the end of the transfer window.

They have recalled loanee Mamadou Sarr from the French club, with Aaron Anselmino expected to move in the opposite direction.

Striker David Datro Fofana is also expected to join Strasbourg from Chelsea.

There have been numerous other transactions between the two clubs, including two further loanees moving from Stamford Bridge to Stade de la Meinau, Ben Chilwell departing on a free transfer to Alsace, and Liam Rosenior replacing Enzo Maresca as Chelsea head coach last month.

We had the -1 transfer earlier and we might be back to zero. I'll let you judge.

Aston Villa have recalled Samuel Iling Jr from his loan spell at West Brom and loaned him out to Serie A club Pisa until the end of the season.

Iling Jr played 24 times for the Baggies this term, scoring once, and now heads to Italy following a previous loan stint with Bologna in Serie A.

  7. What is a transfer deal sheet?published at 18:31 GMT 2 February

    Ask Me Anything

    Ask Me Anything

We're into the final 30 minutes and it looks like we might have to wait until after the deadline for several transfers to be confirmed.

That means deal sheets will be submitted to ensure everything can still be finalised.

If you've ever wondered what a deal sheet is, then BBC Sport's Ask Me Anything team has you covered...

What is a transfer deal sheet?

Premier League clubs need to complete a 'deal sheet' in order to complete a transfer in the last two hours of a transfer window.

Clubs often leave their transfer dealings to the very last minute, and therefore have to submit a form to the Premier League to make sure that a transfer can go ahead.

The deal sheet allows a club to confirm that an agreement has been reached and also give themselves more time to submit the remaining documentation.

The Premier League and the English Football League have both set a transfer deadline for Monday, 2 February at 19:00 GMT.

  8. Chelsea turn to Sarr after missing out on Jacquetpublished at 18:28 GMT 2 February

    Nizaar Kinsella
    BBC Sport Chelsea reporter

It has not been quite the glamour we maybe hoped for at Chelsea.

They wanted a centre-back to strengthen their back line and they were going to go for Jeremy Jacquet, who is going to Liverpool.

He fits the bill, he is young, there are loads of players coming from France to Chelsea, and he is exactly that.

Now they have brought back a player who was on loan, Mamadou Sarr, from Strasbourg.

Of course Chelsea have their old manager Liam Rosenior, so those two know each other very well. It will be a lift for them to bring back a loanee from the sister club to help the first team.

  9. Quiz time ❓❓published at 18:25 GMT 2 February

    Bobbie Jackson
    BBC Sport journalist

Right, I was expecting to be rushed off my feet at this stage of deadline day - we've got 35 minutes until the window shuts - but there's still a real lack of movement.

Shall we try and pass the time with a quiz?

Ademola Lookman's move to Atletico Madrid means he is set to become just the 22nd player to feature in the Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A and La Liga.

  10. Chelsea confirm Sarr return from loanpublished at 18:22 GMT 2 February

    Chelsea

Chelsea have confirmed that 20-year-old defender Mamadou Sarr has been recalled from his loan spell at Strasbourg.

He made 18 appearances for the French side after joining in the summer.

It comes after Chelsea look to have been beaten to the signing of Jeremy Jacquet by Liverpool.

Does this count as a signing? Almost the opposite I guess, putting us at -1 Premier League signings so far today...

  11. Rennes got 'best deal we could hope for' for Jacquet - Beyepublished at 18:19 GMT 2 February

    Jeremy JacquetImage source, Getty Images

Rennes boss Habib Beye, who played for Newcastle between 2007 and 2009, has been speaking to the media ahead of his side's cup game against Marseille and has been speaking about centre-back Jeremy Jacquet's proposed move to Liverpool.

He described it as "the best deal we could hope for", adding: "We negotiated the transfer, obtained the amount that the club looked for, we respected the player’s wish and we have him for the remainder of the season.

"It’s the reality of the market. The club he joins will offer him Champions League football and what is currently the best league in the world. We simply don’t have the means to fight.

"We have to see it as a privilege."

  12. What happens during a football medical?published at 18:16 GMT 2 February

On the theme of Jean-Philippe Mateta's transfer falling through after issues with his medical, let's take a deeper dive into the process.

A medical is used to assess the overall health and fitness of a potential signing, as well as identifying any underlying medical issues they may have.

There is no legal requirement for players to have a medical before a transfer, but they do help a club to decide whether to complete a signing.

A medical test can take as long as six hours, and includes:

    • Physical exams
    • Cardiovascular health tests
    • Lab tests
    • Musculoskeletal tests
    • Neurological tests
  13. 'Glasner's frustrated with transfers in this window'published at 18:11 GMT 2 February

Crystal Palace fan Matt Watts reckons manager Oliver Glasner is frustrated with the timing of his club's transfers in this window.

Palace have let captain Marc Guehi leave to Manchester City and striker Jean-Philippe Mateta was close to moving to Italy before his move to AC Milan fell through earlier today.

  14. Inside the physio room on deadline daypublished at 18:06 GMT 2 February

Naomi de Souza and Andrew Rogers, BBC Newsbeat

Someone who knows a lot about the impact of medicals on deadline day is Ricardo Silva, who goes by ‘Physio Ric’ on social media.

The 30-year-old Baller League physio has had millions of views on TikTok, where he gives an inside view of the recovery room.

Ric has been telling BBC Newsbeat of the risk and fast pace of medicals on deadline day.

“Let's say a club wants to buy a player, we essentially have to get together with a medical team, and we run through a structured system,” says Ric.

“We’d need to identify everything, [like the] history of any injuries that the player may have sustained."

He has previously worked at Arsenal’s academy and at Crystal Palace and says clubs doing business on deadline day will be forensic in understanding a player’s medical history.

“It can be quite lengthy, so it's got to be a physical objective assessment where we are looking at how all the joints are moving,” Ric explains.

Ric works with professional footballers and content creators taking part in Baller League UK.

He explains that deadline day will bring a normal assessment plus “further testing” like MRI scans.

“That’s not going to be a quick two-minute test, they have to sit and do it.

“Then the radiologist or doctor needs to come up with the findings for that and to make a diagnosis. All of these things, you can't pre-plan,” he adds.

All I can say is that Chelsea’s window has been very unsuccessful, and we have failed to sign that quality centre-back we need. Mamadou Sarr isn’t good enough yet.

I am not a fan of Chelsea transfers. We sign kids, if you flop we sell you to Strasbourg, if you do well you stay (very few). We need top players who have made a name for themselves not experimenting on children.

I think as good as Jean-Philippe Mateta has been for Crystal Palace, and he's scored some really important goals, potentially the way he's gone about trying to get out of Selhurst Park has left a bit of a sour taste in supporters' mouth.

That's not to forget what he's done. Palace fans will not forget that FA Cup final seven or eight months ago, which feels like a distance memory. It's probably the best time for everyone that he moves on.

It's such a shame for him that he can't get to AC Milan which was his dream. It looks like he'll have to stay at Palace a little while longer.
