Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of full-back Luca Netz from Borussia Monchengladbach on a four-and-a-half-year deal.

The 22-year-old, who mainly plays on the left, made 124 appearances for Gladbach after joining from Hertha Berlin's academy in 2021.

Netz said: "Nottingham Forest is a great club with a unique history. The chance to play for this club in the Premier League immediately excited me.

"I am ready for a new challenge and the next step in my career. I am extremely motivated to get started here and am incredibly excited about the first training sessions and matches at The City Ground in front of our fans."

Fair enough, Adam. But would it really have been too much to ask to save a couple more of them for today?

Wait a minute... sound the transfer claxon!

  3. 'We're still seeing a lot of transfers all over the world'published at 19:55 GMT 2 February

Sports Business lecturer Adam Davis, speaking about the lack of activity in this month's transfer window on BBC iPlayer's Transfer Deadline Day Live: "As opposed to a lot of summer transfer windows, we usually see less spending in January as we do in summer.

"That being said, this is still one of the highest spending transfer windows we have ever seen. We are still seeing an awful lot of transfers. Not just in the Premier League, not just in the Championship - all across the globe the number of transfer is continuing to rise.

"It is important to highlight that when a club is budgeting for transfers we can't just look at this window, we have to take into consideration what happened in the summer and there was a lot of spending in the UK and abroad.

"The Premier League will regularly spend the most amount of money out of any league in the world and it will stimulate lots of other transfers we see afterwards. The fact that many clubs are quite close to the spending limit gives them less of a cap space to be able to spend that on new transfers, even if fans and clubs would like to see them get some through the door."

Palace have, for once, made an intended transfer stick, rather than relying on money coming in first. Of course, Mateta will be disappointed to see his move collapse, but he can't blame Palace for him failing his medical. Hopefully, he'll focus on pushing on, and winning us the Conference League.

    Sami Mokbel
BBC Sport Senior football correspondent on BBC Monday Night Club

They haven't replaced Marc Guehi, who's arguably England's best centre back. They've decided to sign another wide player, who in my mind they don't need. I don't quite know where Dwight McNeil fits into the squad.

West Ham need GOOD defenders desperately. If they haven't signed anyone it will be a kick in the teeth for their loyal fans. I've supported them for 74 years and feel let down.

    Thanks, Bobbie.

Biggest stint of the day there. You know, what with there actually being a couple of transfers. So big in fact that you've forgotten you didn't have two deals, it was three - Strand Larsen, Phillips and Iling Jr...

Only one that actually counts, mind. We've all been on for outgoing deals*.

*I actually don't think I was, if anything I'm in the negative because Jean-Philippe Mateta's deal being scuppered was on my watch.

Right, I'm satisfied with my innings - two deals will do me nicely.

I'll leave you in the safe hands of Sam Drury. Enjoy!

  11. 'Mateta might try and sort his knee injury now'published at 19:29 GMT 2 February

I wonder if Jean-Philippe Mateta might use this opportunity now to sort his knee out and that will take the dilemma of having two strikers out of the manager's hands.

  12. Mateta staying at Palacepublished at 19:27 GMT 2 February

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace were chasing Jorgen Strand Larsen as a replacement for Jean-Philippe Mateta, but the Frenchman is staying put at Selhurst Park after issues with his medical at AC Milan.

Oliver Glasner now has an additional striker option with Strand Larsen arriving for a club-record fee.

If Mateta still wants to leave in the summer then at least he has time to bed in Strand Larsen.

  13. Quiet window for Arsenal as club in good positionpublished at 19:26 GMT 2 February

    Alex Howell
    BBC Sport Arsenal reporter

A quiet window for Arsenal who did all of their squad building in the summer.

The only question was today if they felt like they needed to sign a player to deal with the injury to Mikel Merino.

Ultimately, they have decided that they have enough in the squad to deal with his absence.

They are in a great position in the league and the Champions League with a semi-final tomorrow night against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

If Arteta can keep his squad fit for the rest of the campaign, there's a high chance that Arsenal win some silverware this season.

I'm being told I can't claim two deals completed on my stint (Strand Larsen to Palace and Philips to Sheffield United) because it's an outgoing transfer from the Premier League rather than incoming.

    Thoughts?

Thumbs up if you think I can add it to my tally or thumbs down if I have to let this one slide.

  15. Phillips joins Sheff Utd on loanpublished at 19:22 GMT 2 February
    Breaking

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips has joined Sheffield United on loan for the rest of the season.

The former England man has played just seven minutes for City so far this season - a late substitute appearance against Huddersfield in the League Cup in September.

Phillips joined Pep Guardiola's side for £45m from Leeds in the summer of 2022 but the move has not worked out and the 30-year-old spent last season on loan at Ipswich.

  16. 'Liverpool need cover and they haven't given it to Arne Slot'published at 19:21 GMT 2 February

    Rory Smith
Football Correspondent for The Observer on BBC Monday Night Club

The strange thing for me about Liverpool today, they were going for Lutsharel Geertruida yesterday, someone has said no, and they haven't thought 'let's go get someone else who can play centre back and right back', because they need cover.

Whether you can blame whatever happens in the rest of Liverpool's season on Arne Slot, when they haven't given him that cover I don't know.

  18. 'First steps of Championship transition have started'published at 19:19 GMT 2 February

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Wolves had to tread carefully this window.

They needed to start preparing for next season but if they sold too much of the silverware it would look like they were surrendering too early.

With relegation increasingly they could not leave it until the summer to revamp the squad but they have struck the right tone in the difficult winter window.

The expected additions of Adam Armstrong from Southampton and Angel Gomes give the squad fresh faces and voices.

The impending signing of Gomes is especially positive.

Just under 18 months ago he was making his England debut under Lee Carsley against Ireland and his loan from Marseille sees the midfielder return to the UK for the first time since leaving Manchester United in 2020.

Armstrong has Championship pedigree even if his record in the top flight is hardly prolific as Wolves rebuild the frontline after Jorgen Strand Larsen's £48m move to Crystal Palace.

That Wolves start the high profile exits and Joao Gomes and Andre had interest in January although Gomes was happy to stay until the end of the season and assess his future, with Napoli current frontrunners for the Brazil international.

Marshall Munetsi and Fer Lopez have gone out on loan - Munetsi's time at the club appearing over as Wolves try to keep his value high, while Lopez will return in the summer.

Rob Edwards needed to bring players in who would be willing to step into the Championship and help bring Wolves back to the Premier League. The first steps have started.

  20. Disasi to West Ham and McNeil to Palace on the deal sheetpublished at 19:17 GMT 2 February

Two deals we know that are running past the 19:00 GMT transfer deadline are West Ham's loan bid for Chelsea defender Axel Disasi and Crystal Palace's £20m move for Everton winger Dwight McNeil.

In addition, Everton's loan move with an option to buy for Chelsea winger Tyrique George is also on the deal sheet.

There will be an anxious wait as the paperwork needs to be completed before 21:00 GMT or risk seeing the two moves collapse.
