The Dutch fans are quite a sight, and it probably won't surprise you that they make quite a sound too.

One corner of this stadium is all Austria - helpfully they all held up bits of card to display their flag when I took that photo - and they all bellowed out their anthem too.... but then the Oranje Army really turned up the volume for theirs.

Mbappe is just a phenomenal talent and he is brilliant. It is great to see him go back to his home town and give a bit back. It's really important he did that.

Alongside Ronald Koeman in the Netherlands dugout today will be his older brother Erwin. The 62-year-old played for his nation during his career and was part of their 1988 Euros-winning side.

He was his younger sibling's assistant at Southampton and Everton and formerly managed the likes of Feyenoord and the Hungary national team.

Erwin and Ronald re-joined forces after the Qatar World Cup in 2022, and are guiding the Netherlands through their first major tournament together.

We've seen a hugely impressive spirit within the Austria camp and the way that they have approached games.

There have been a lot of surprises, possibly from eyes that watch the Premier League week in, week out having seen Manchester United sort of falter under Ralf Rangnick.

What we're seeing now is whether it was all that bad at Man United, was he the problem? Or was it the players? Because what we're seeing now, from an Austrian point of view, they know the style of play that is being asked of them, they're putting that on to the pitch and they are very, very aggressive in the way that they play.

They have made a lot of changes today, can they continue that today?

Thirty six years ago to the day of this game, the Netherlands won their only major tournament, beating the Soviet Union 2-0 in the final of Euro 1988.

That match was played at the Olympiastadion in Munich with goals scored by Marco van Basten and Ruud Gullit.

• The Netherlands have won their two previous major tournament encounters with Austria (World Cup/Euros). The Dutch won 5-1 at the 1978 Fifa World Cup and 2-0 at Euro 2020.
• Austria have lost their last seven matches against the Netherlands, their longest current run of defeats against a single opponent. Austria’s last victory dates back to May 1990 in a Vienna friendly (3-2).
• The Netherlands are aiming to reach the knockout stages at the European Championship for the eighth time in their last nine tournament appearances, having only failed to qualify in one of their previous eight (in 2012 under Bert van Marwijk).
• Austria are looking to qualify for the knockout stages of the European Championship for the second consecutive edition (reached round of 16 at Euro 2020), after failing to progress from the group stage in their first two appearances in the competition in 2008 and 2016.
• Since the start of the 2014 World Cup, the Netherlands haven’t lost any of their group stage matches at major tournaments (World Cup/Euros), winning nine of their 11 such matches (D2). They did fail to win against France last time out, however, while failing to score for the first time across those 11 games.

• France are unbeaten in eight European Championships group games under Didier Deschamps - winning four and drawing four.

• Midfielder N'Golo Kante has never lost a game for France in regulation time at a major tournament - winning 12 and drawing five.

• Poland are unable to progress to the knockout rounds after losing to Austria and Netherlands.

• Poland's last competitive victory against France came in the 1982 World Cup third-place play-off.

• France's only goal in the tournament came through a Max Wober own goal in the 1-0 win over Austria.

Poland are out and just have pride to play for, and this might give France another chance to rest Kylian Mbappe - which may or may not be a good thing.

In the past two years, France have not won any of the seven games that Mbappe has not started, but I would still expect them to beat a weak Poland side.

Poland left Robert Lewandowski on the bench for an hour against Austria, which I am sure is a big talking point among their fans, because apparently he was fit to start.

He has not even had a chance to perform in this tournament for Poland so far and they are already eliminated, and at 35 you wonder if we will see him on this sort of stage again.

The end comes for all great strikers, though. It even happened to me, although I think Aston Villa's fans were absolutely delighted when I packed it in.

Sutton's prediction: 2-0

Love that odd quirk Chris. Similar to Atletico Madrid and Paris St-Germain having not yet faced each other in a competitive match. Look it up!

It feels like an odd quirk that, despite their rich footballing history in Germany - where they reached the final of the 1974 World Cup and won the 1988 European Championship - the Netherlands have never played at the vast Olympiastadion before... both those finals were held in Munich.

It may be an unfamiliar setting but the presence of the Oranje Army means this epic arena is going to feel like their second home today... and of course they will all be hoping they will be back in Berlin for another visit for the final on 14 July.
