Ever since that Rangers goal was disallowed, Motherwell have been on top. Elijah Just almost gets in behind the home defence.

However, the clearest chance almost comes at the other end. A flicked effort from Youssef Chermiti is palmed out by Calum Ward, but a great block from Johnny Koutroumbis halts Mikey Moore from putting in the rebound, before Ward gathers his second effort.

Both sides - and both sets of supporters - are certainly up for this one. Killie are not looking like a side which hasn't won a game of football since early October.

They're having to defend a lot in the opening phase of this second period as St Mirren up the ante, with Dan Nlundulu the latest to be denied this time by the feet of keeper Tobi Oluwayemi.

That's an unbelievable save from Toby Oluwayemi.

St Mirren pour down the right again and Jayden Richardson's cross is turned towards goal by Dan Nlundulu. Oluwayemi somehow gets a foot to it while falling the other way and turns it behind the post.

The full-back was a half-time sub for Roland Idowu, while Mikael Mandron has just come on for Jonay Ayunga.

Luke McCowan cuts inside to have a go but the Celtic midfielder's shot flies high and wide.

Drey Wright fires a great ball into the Falkirk penalty box but Ryan Astley doesn't react quickly enough to turn it home.

Early second-half chance for Killie as James Brown crosses low and Greg Kiltie tries to sweep it in at the front post. It bobbles harmlessly wide, to the agony of the visiting fans behind that goal.

That was quick.

Nico Raskin looks perplexed as his goal is disallowed, but it's the right call. He calmly rolls the ball into the net, but replays show a very-much offside Youssef Chermiti obstructing Motherwell keeper Calum Ward.

Killie's Tobi Oluwayemi was the busier keeper in an engrossing first-half that had pretty much everything.

Except a goal, of course.

There was plenty of good St Mirren pressure but you also have to credit the last-ditch defending from the visitors, who created some pretty decent chances up the other end as well.

The game deserves a goal or two. Will we get them after the interval?

Hearts head coach Derek McInnes tells BBC Scotland: "Poor starts, both halves. losing a goal within the first three or four minutes.

"It wasn't anything about our attacking play, we had plenty of possession, we weren't incisive enough. But that's not the part that's let us down. The part that's let us down today is stopping the switch of play, stopping crosses and not picking up midfield runners. And that's the stuff we showed and spoke about.

"If you don't do the basics well, it doesn't matter how good you are or how good a run you're on, you're going to end up with a sore one.

"We nearly get the draw at the end, the keeper's pulled off a brilliant save, but you can't just play for half an hour and lose three goals and expect to get something from the game.

"It's a sore one for us, but we've got to own that. We get to the top of the league, not by being Barcelona, not by being something we don't think we are, it's by doing basics well in games. And particularly in a derby, you need to do that.

"The second half, we gave a much more familiar showing to what we normally do.

"It's two defeats in 19, if we have two defeats out of the next 19, we've had a brilliant season, an unbelievable season."

Hibernian head coach David Gray tells BBC Scotland: "It was a brilliant game to be involved in. We deserved to be 3-0 up. Full credit to Hearts. We certainly were [holding on], and that's when you need your big characters to stand up and be counted. We got over the line and that's the most important thing.

"[The big thing today was] making sure the players are aware of the chaos and what's coming, that's something we handled really well, the aggression right from the start, intensity to get the ball back was certainly there.

"Big save from the goalkeeper [at the end] and the fine margins have gone for us in the end.

"I asked them for a big statement win, we got that today. It's now about kicking on and trying to be more consistent with our results. We got what we deserved today.

"They are a really good group, they work hard all the time. The dressing room is a very good dressing room. There's a long way to go, a lot of football to be played.

"I'm sure the neutrals enjoyed it. I'm off for a lie down."

A little look at the xG tells you there's been chances, but no sitters. St Mirren have 0.43 compared to Kilmarnock's 0.53 and that comes from nine shots to seven.

Greg Kiltie has caught the eye for the visitors, while Roland Idowu could make a case as St Mirren's best player.
