  5. Clement v Hodgson - a big time boutpublished at 14:59 BST 18 April

Bristol City v Norwich (15:00 BST)

There will be many a Norwich fan wondering what could have been if Philippe Clement had taken charge from the start of the season.

After a dismal beginning to the campaign under former Bristol City boss Liam Manning, Clement has took the Canaries from their nest in the bottom three and let them fly to ninth spot.

But the Robins know how a new manager can bring in new energy as Roy Hodgson continued his unbeaten start to his second spell as Bristol City boss with a draw against QPR last time out.

Both sides enter this match equal on points - but which manager can show their stuff at Ashton Gate?

Watford v Sheff Utd (15:00 BST)

A side-by-side image of Watford boss Ed Still and Sheffield United's Chris WilderImage source, Getty Images

Not much to see here really.

Beaten in the play-off final last season, how might Sheffield United have fared had they hung onto Chris Wilder rather than dispensing with his services in favour of Ruben Selles before having go back cap in hand to Wilder for him to rescue them?

How might Watford have fared had they been able to retain Javi Gracia after he won eight of his 21 games in charge when replacing Paulo Pezzolano?

The good thing is both clubs will have plenty of time to mull over the what-ifs during the summer.

In the meantime there is a game to be won, one for the die-hards probably.

  7. Wednesday look to avoid more unwanted historypublished at 14:55 BST 18 April

Sheff Wed v Charlton (15:00 BST)

As has been the case throughout the season news from Sheffield Wednesday this week has been dominated by the club's future.

The administration-hit club's preferred bidder released a statement on Wednesday to call on the EFL not to impose a 15-point hit for next season in League One.

On the pitch this is their penultimate chance to avoid becoming the first club in Football League history to go an entire season without a home win.

They claimed a creditable 0-0 draw at champions-elect Coventry last week so despite the off-field concerns there is optimism that they could register a first win in any competition since September.

However, Charlton are themselves desperate for a result after a run of five games without a win.

Victory at Hillsborough would move them up to 52 points though and almost certainly guarantee them another season of second tier football.

  8. Pivotal few days for Tigers' hopespublished at 14:53 BST 18 April

Hull City v Birmingham (15:00 BST)

The next few days could be pivotal in Hull City's push for the play offs.

Last week's defeat at Sheffield United opened the door for both Wrexham and Derby to potentially take advantage of the Tigers' trip up - but they both failed to do so.

A win today against a Blues side who actually did the Tigers a favour by beating Wrexham last week, and a victory in their midweek clash at Leicester in a few days' time could be enough to seal their spot in the end of season party.

Sergej Jakirovic deserves a huge amount of credit with this squad which is filled with youth and good Championship experience with players that have had multiple promotions on their CV.

He has moulded them into a solid unit, and they will be a big factor in the play-offs - any of the other teams in the mix will face a tough test getting past them over two games.

  9. Birmingham look to put bump in Hull's waypublished at 14:51 BST 18 April

Hull City v Birmingham (15:00 BST)

Wrexham's loss of form has come at a perfect time for sixth-placed Hull City.

With four games to go the Tigers are four points clear of Phil Parkinson's men.

Sergej Jakirovic's side have only picked up two points from their past three games themselves but a win over Birmingham today would go a long way to confirming their play-off spot.

Blues ended a run of three straight losses with victory over the Red Dragons on Sunday and although their own top-six aspirations are done their season isn't.

Boss Chris Davies will want to finish strongly to persuade the club's ambitious board that they should back him, rather than sack him, this summer.

  10. Saints' prayers being heardpublished at 14:49 BST 18 April

    Swansea v Southampton (15:00 BST)

    Tonda EckertImage source, Getty Images

A year is a long time in any walk of life, more so for football fans.

This time last year Southampton had only two wins and 10 points to show for their, let's face it, pretty ropey efforts in the Premier League. They were already relegated and failed to win any of their final 14 games.

Fast-forward 12 months and while admittedly they have had to change head coach again, a return to the top flight could be on the cards with a timely run which has them top of the Championship's form guide.

Victory today would make it seven successive league wins and there is also that FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City to look forward to next weekend.

"This squad is in a moment and a place where you can put on whoever you want to put on and they're ready and well able to perform. That's a big plus for us at this part of the season," said boss Tonda Eckert who has won back-to-back manager of the month awards.

Swansea, boasting the division's top scorer in Zan Vipotnilk, may pose a potential hurdle for the Saints but a run of one win from their past five outings - that victory came at Leicester last Saturday - has a rather end-of-season feel about it.

A Southampton win would certainly heap the pressure on Ipswich who do not play until tomorrow and still have to visit the south coast.

Wrexham sorely need a win today to get their play-off push back on track.

But on the back of three successive promotions, it's hard to argue that it has been anything but a strong season for the Red Dragons - even if they do go on to miss out on a place in the top six.

Writing in today's official matchday programme, Wrexham CEO Michael Williamson said: "At the start of the campaign, when asked about our ambitions for life in the Championship, we spoke about the importance of being competitive and allowing the season to take shape from there.

"With just four games remaining, to find ourselves firmly in contention for the play-off positions is a reflection of the hard work and commitment shown by our players, staff and, of course, your outstanding support throughout the season."

    Wrexham v Stoke (15:00 BST)

As far as winning promotion goes, Wrexham can write you a step-by-step guide, I mean they have done it three years in a row after all.

So it comes as a bit of a surprise to find them faltering having had a play-off place in their grasp.

Successive defeats, including a 5-1 shellacking at home by Southampton, have put a spanner in the works with four points from a possible 15 allowing others to steal a march on Phil Parkinson's side.

"The weekend is about us and I said to the lads that the one thing we've got to make sure that doesn't happen is that we hand a play-off berth to somebody else without them earning it," said Parkinson this week.

With a four-point gap to bridge over the remaining four games and still having to face Coventry and Middlesbrough, today's meeting with Stoke is surely a must win.

The Potters' abysmal post-January form has seen their own play-off hopes evaporate and five straight defeats on the road paints a picture of a team who need the summer to regroup.

In a week in which Phil Parkinson was awarded the freedom of Wrexham you can only imagine what further honours could be on offer if he can magic up another promotion from this position.

  13. Baggies facing points loss - but when?published at 14:44 BST 18 April

Preston v West Brom (15:00 BST)

A photo of Max O'Leary in his orange West Bromwich Albion goalkeeping kit softly applaudingImage source, Shutterstock

Having not lost since their 2-1 defeat at Oxford on 28 February, West Bromwich Albion fans were finally starting to feel more optimistic about their survival chances.

That was until they got hit with potential impending charges from the EFL for allegedly breaching profit and sustainability rules.

A points deduction lingers in the air and while we don't know how much or how soon, the uncertainty has not only the West Midlands side spooked but also their relegation rivals.

It might not mean much at all for this season anyway if the Baggies don't create a further gap between themselves and the bottom. They will look for three points at a Preston side screaming mid-table.

    Portsmouth

Portsmouth goal scorer Ibane Bowat speaking to Sky Sports:

"I think it's because we have a lot of pressure on us given our situation and we've worked hard together. The hard work that's gone in is immense and we've still got a couple games to go and we believe.

"Some would say a little bit lucky but I'm so happy to have gotten a goal for the team."

On Nico Schmid's huge save to deny Patson Daka:

"Crucial save. That's what we need in these games. Nico stepped up today and put in a couple of good saves."

It is difficult not to look at the bottom of the table first after our lunchtime scorelines.

Portsmouth are almost safe as they make it three wins in seven days while leaving Leicester in an even deeper hole.

Oxford have quietly lost at Derby and could be in big trouble come five o'clock while the Rams have stayed in the play-off race.

Millwall are back in second place with their routine win over QPR, with Southampton at Swansea shortly before Ipswich meet Middlesbrough tomorrow.

Leicester's problem mainly lies with lazy, overpaid, uninterested players of course, but I've lost track of the number of decisions that have gone against us this season, many of which would have been overturned by VAR. We've lost plenty of points throughout the season to poor decisions.

    Steve, Leicester

I don't think I have ever seen a team in Leicester's position so devoid of fight.

    Adrian, Portsmouth

As a Leicester fan for the best part of 60 years this has to be the worse side I’ve ever seen. Where is the passion and fight for the shirt gone - absolutely shocking they should hang their heads in shame.

    FT: Portsmouth 1-0 Leicester

    Portsmouth

Portsmouth goalkeeper Nico Schmid speaking to Sky Sports:

"The last couple of weeks, we've put a shift in. It's incredible.

"We know after QPR we have to step up. We worked really hard in training as a team and you can see it.

"We have to look on Tuesday, we have another important game to secure the next Championship season."
