Victor Osimhen and Baris Yilmaz scored in extra time as Galatasaray held off a stirring fightback from 10-man Juventus to reach the last 16 of the Champions League.

The Italians had threatened to become only the fourth club to progress after losing the first leg of a knockout tie in the competition by three or more goals when Weston McKennie headed in with eight minutes left to level the tie at 5-5 on aggregate.

Trailing 5-2 from the first encounter in Istanbul, Juventus captain Manuel Locatelli started the recovery, stroking in a first-half penalty after Lucas Torreira had fouled Khephren Thuram.

And after having Juan Cabal sent off in the first leg, another dismissal followed for the Italian side in the 49th minute.

This time it was for English centre-back Lloyd Kelly, who had a second yellow card upgraded to a straight red in controversial circumstances.

That looked to have derailed the home side's chances, but amazingly they responded superbly with 10 men.

Federico Gatti tapped in Pierre Kalulu's cross to provide renewed hope and the Allianz Stadium erupted in joy when American midfielder McKennie restored parity from close range.

However, as the hosts missed opportunities and tired in extra time, Osimhen fired in a low effort after being picked out by Yilmaz to put the visitors back ahead in an enthralling tie.

And with the clock ticking down, Yilmaz put the contest beyond doubt with another break and composed finish past home goalkeeper Mattia Perin.

A relieved Galatasaray will now face either Liverpool or Tottenham on their first last-16 appearance in Europe's elite club competition since 2013-14.

Vinicius Jr scored as Real Madrid secured their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with victory over Benfica at the Bernabeu.

The forward had been the centre of focus in the build-up to the game, having alleged he was racially abused by Gianluca Prestianni shortly after scoring the only goal in the first leg.

Prestianni was subsequently handed a one-match ban, meaning he missed Wednesday's return leg, while support was shown for Vinicius Jr by the home fans as a banner with the words "no to racism" in Spanish was displayed in the stands before kick-off.

Vinicius Jr then ensured football was the focus during the game as he scored the winner, driving a clinical finish across the goalkeeper with 10 minutes to go to wrap up a 3-1 victory on aggregate.

Benfica, to their credit, had put up plenty of fight before then and had taken the lead in the 14th minute when Rafa Silva turned in a loose ball after Thibaut Courtois had prevented Raúl Asencio's attempted clearance from going into his own net.

That lead lasted just two minutes, however, as Aurelien Tchouameni curled home a fine strike from the edge of the box for his first Champions League goal.

Real were without the injured Kylian Mbappe and they missed his talent in attack, as Benfica instead looked a threat to score again and level up the tie on aggregate.

But Vinicius Jr continued his excellent recent form with his sixth goal in five games to ensure Real Madrid can look forward to facing either Manchester City or Sporting in the last 16.

Holders Paris St-Germain beat 10-man Monaco to advance to the last 16 of the Champions League.

Monaco went ahead just before half-time when Mamadou Coulibaly threaded a ball through to Maghnes Akliouche who found the bottom corner of the net with a first-time finish which went in via the post.

The away side could have taken the lead sooner when Akliouche played a great ball into the box but Coulibaly's effort flew high over the bar.

The game changed just before the hour mark when Coulibaly was sent off for a tackle on Achraf Hakimi while already on a yellow card he picked up just three minutes earlier.

PSG levelled the tie almost immediately with Marquinhos slotting home from Desire Doue's low cross.

Georgia winger Kvaratskhelia made sure of the victory in the 66th minute when he fired in from close range after Hakimi's low strike had been parried into his path by Monaco goalkeeper Philipp Kohn.

In stoppage time, Jordan Teze fired into the bottom corner but it was a mere consolation for Monaco.

The holders will face either Chelsea or Barcelona in the next round, and will discover their opponents in the knockout draw on Friday (11:00 GMT).

  5. Atalanta snatch place in last 16 with last-gasp decisive goalpublished at 22:53 GMT 25 February

Atalanta scored a dramatic penalty with the last kick of the game as the Italians staged an incredible fightback to beat Borussia Dortmund and progress to the last 16 of the Champions League.

The hosts had faced an almighty task after losing the first leg 2-0 in Germany, but scored twice in the first half through Gianluca Scamacca and Davide Zappacosta to level the tie on aggregate.

Mario Pasalic made it 3-0 in the 57th minute, but Karim Adeyemi looked to have taken the game into extra time when he curled in a leveller overall.

But, with just seconds left in stoppage time, Ramy Bensebaini caught Nikola Krstovic on the head in the box with a reckless high boot as the Atalanta forward attempted to meet a cross following a mistake by visiting keeper Gregor Kobel.

After a check by the video assistant referee (VAR) for a penalty and a possible red card, referee Jose Maria Sanchez Martinez was summoned to the screen, after which he decided to award the spot-kick and dismiss Bensebaini with a second yellow card.

Lazar Samardzic then kept his cool to convert the highest of pressure penalties, sending the ball into the roof of the net and Atalanta into the last 16, where they will face either Arsenal or Bayern Munich.

  6. 'We can be proud of our performances against PSG'published at 22:52 GMT 25 February

FT: PSG 2-2 Monaco (5-4 agg)

Monaco boss Sebastien Pocognoli speaking to UEFA: "We can be proud of our two performances against Paris, down to 10 men on both occasions. In these moments you tend to ask yourself: "What if?" Regarding our attitude, we were brave. Our first feeling is pride, then frustration.

"We deserved more, especially today. During the first leg, we were clinical but suffered under the pressure of Paris. Today, we performed a lot better, so we deserve more."

  9. 'Really significant for Italian football'published at 22:50 GMT 25 February

FT: Atalanta 4-1 Borussia Dortmund (4-3 agg)

    Nicky Bandini
Italian football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

On how important Atalanta's comeback tonight was for Italian football:

It was really significant for at least one of these clubs to make it through. And I do think out of all of them perhaps Atalanta are one of the ones many wouldn't have expected but it's the one we should've expected because they have for half a decade now been performing where their finance and status with Italian clubs shouldn't expect to see them.

Exceeding expectations up to winning that Europa League against a much-fancied Bayer Leverkusen team. They were magnificent tonight, really magnificent. I think that the attitude right from the very beginning of the game was almost the exact opposite of what we saw from Inter last night. You wanted to see that bit of energy and urgency from the beginning and they did that immediately. The energy in Bergamo was sensational.

I think there would be more feel good factor that carries over for a team like Atalanta than there would be for Juventus, for Inter because they haven't been traditionally one of the big teams of Italian football, so they don't have that animosity that exists between Juventus and Inter, between Juventus and Milan, between clubs that are used to competing for the trophies.

PSG forward and Player of the Match Desire Doue speaking to UEFA: "We’re really happy to get through. It was so important to pass this test. We managed to show great spirit, and remained resilient, showing that by coming back from behind."

On Monaco: "They’re a great side, with a lot of quality and some top players. Every game in the Champions League is difficult. Tonight we managed to get the job done, and that’s the most important thing."

On facing Chelsea or Barcelona in the last 16: "It’s going to be two great games. In any case, we’ll approach them with a lot of confidence, and we’re ready to go up against them regardless of which team it is."

On the positives from tonight’s performance: "We tried to play collectively as we always do. We created plenty of chances and were efficient in front of goal. We have to be a little more rigorous defensively all over the pitch, but we’ll improve game by game."

That will do it for Galatasaray.

The ball is played through the middle by Wilfried Singo and Baris Alper Yilmaz gets to the ball first and pokes it past the goalkeeper.

Juventus' brave attempt to progress despite being 5-2 down after the first leg will not be successful. The home fans are still on their feet applauding their side's effort tonight. But Galatasaray will be the ones in the last 16.

    But so might Galatasaray.

Two more chances for Juventus. Firstly Edon Zhegrova draws a fine one-handed stop from Ugurcan Çakir. The ball drops for Filip Kostic but he can't hit the target with the follow-up attempt.
