But it's not just Mohamed Salah who is leaving Liverpool today; Andy Robertson will also be saying an emotional goodbye.

However, they have endured a truly disastrous campaign this time around, once again not helped by a lengthy injury list.

His replacement Igor Tudor's reign was a new nadir, with the club collecting just one Premier League point from a possible 15 before his 44-day tenure was brought to an end.

Roberto de Zerbi then took on the unenviable task of ending their tailspin.

Draws against Brighton and Leeds that bookended wins over Wolves and Aston Villa provided light at the end of the tunnel, and they are now on course to escape - unless there is a dramatic plot twist today.

Things look bleak for West Ham.

Three straight defeats have left Nuno Espirito Santo's side in 18th, two points from safety with a much worse goal difference that Tottenham ahead of them.

The Hammers must win or their 14-year stay in the Premier League will end this afternoon.

Arriving at the London Stadium a little earlier you wouldn't really think that West Ham could be just a couple of hours away from being relegated.

The mood among the fans I came across wasn't downbeat, but perhaps more of acceptance. One supporter described this match as a "free hit", adding that to stay up would be a bonus, while another said he just wanted to see the Hammers win and that after that "what will be will be".

The West Ham fans know the odds are stacked against them so appear to in the main be here to enjoy a few drinks in the sun, while hoping for the best once the football gets under way.

He's a hero in south London after scoring the winner in the FA Cup for the Eagles last season and it's easy to forget that he's actually played for Palace in the league this season too.

While the sun will be out this weekend, two football teams in London are facing slightly gloomier prospects.

Speaking to BBC Newsbeat in Stoke Newington, halfway between West Ham and Tottenham’s grounds, are fans James Lynskey and Angel Layer.

However, they won’t be rooting for the same side – James supports West Ham and Angel supports Tottenham Hotspur.

“I am feeling quite nervous,” James told BBC Newsbeat, ahead of the last day of the season.

“Our chances of winning aren’t looking great,” the 19-year-old says.

“I can see it being the one option where we lose and West Ham win,” says Angel.

The pair said they are both hoping their teams “ignore the outside noise and focus on the pitch”.

If West Ham are to stay up, they'll need a big favour from former boss David Moyes and his Everton side.

Moyes had two spells as Hammers boss, firstly guiding them to safety in 2017-18 and then returning in December 2019 for a four-and-a-half year stint.

The Scot won the Conference League in his second spell in East London but was sacked after what was deemed a disappointing season in 2023-24.

West Ham finished ninth that year...

Now back at Everton, Moyes will be hoping for a win to finish the season with the Toffees still holding a glimmer of hope of European qualification. More realistic is the chance of a top-half finish.
