"I think we showed an incredible connection commitment and courage. Everything around us has fuelled our desire to do it.

"We have an incredible ownership. Through the tough times is when you really see people. They have incredible values and know the sport better than any of us. They have committed to the project that we have delivered. They have been instrumental."

On his goals: "VAR kind of kills the celebration, slows it down. Phil [Foden] was unlucky with his, I'm not sure it was offside. Really happy with my two goals."

On Pep Guardiola: "He is the best there has been. His record speaks for itself. Stones and Bernardo as well are unbelievable payers. They are world class. It was nice to give them a send off today on such a special day. I'm glad we could show some respect to them."

On Sunderland securing Europe and North East bragging rights:

Newcastle fans will be fuming with it. The heat on Howe really started to pick up pace when they lost to Sunderland, in the North East that's unacceptable, you maybe can draw one, but you can't lose two back to back.

Regis le Bris has done a unbelievable job at Sunderland getting the players together and making them all believe that they can do it, and they can do anything they put their minds to.

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to Sky Sports: "Our time was good. Thank you to all the people, the new stand is beautiful.

"Bernardo was emotional today, before the game, if you want to cry then cry, laugh then laugh. Emotions - you have to express them. I don't cry, but when I see somebody else cry, then I cry!

"This chapter will always be there. Many memories - forget the titles, it's the memories. All of us. All the people here are extraordinary. Life is made of periods, we lived an incredible period. If I had energy I would stay here. A new person has to do this job.

"The [new] manager has to be themselves, that's the most important thing. The way they communicate, the way they play, they have to be them. This club is good at many things, and they do transitions really well. It will be good. You can win many titles, but the connection with the city and the people you work with.. if you are not comfortable with people you work with, you do not stay for 10 years."

    FT: Tottenham 1-0 Everton

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Roberto de Zerbi, speaking to BBC MOTD: "I'm very happy and elated for the performance of my players. They showed they are good people and top players. We played maybe the best game in my time here.

"We played against an Everton side who had a coach that maybe wanted to help keep West Ham up but I'm sorry he couldn't do that."

On Joao Palhinha's goal: "Joao Palhinha is a great example. He's on loan here but he's one of the first players to start here and as we look to rebuild next season.

"It's now around 7pm and around 8 or 9pm we will start working towards next season."

On the fans: "Before the game the fans were outside the stadium and they were fantastic. We had to fight on the pitch to make them happy and proud of us. We need to show more of this spirit in the future."

  10. 'We did our part but it was not enough'published at 19:29 BST 24 May

    FT: West Ham 3-0 Leeds

    West Ham United

West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We are sad, we are disappointed but sadness is what we feel.

"We knew that our mission was tough, it was not in our hands. We did our part but it was not enough. We have to apologise to our fans and thank them for all their incredible support.

"One of the things that made us feel at home was their support and their noise. Then as a club we need to go to this moment of sadness. It's tough."

On winning the game: "That was important for us. In our talk with the boys I was clear, let's finish with character and dignity, especially at home.

"At home, we have to perform and give it our all and see what happens. We did our part, it didn't happen. But I'm proud of the boys, it was a tough, tough day."

On the fans: "They are amazing. One of the things that makes us proud is that we established a good relationship. They understand the difficulties of the team. Even today there was noise and we cannot thank them enough.

"We apologise for the situation but the club is the fans and they are going to be needed."

On going down with 39 points: "This was out of normal. You can see all over the table."

On playing in the Championship next season: "It's going to be tough. Tomorrow and after tomorrow is going to be even tougher when you realise what you have ahead.

"West Ham is a Premier League club and deserves to be in the Premier League.

"Out of respect for everyone, we cannot look to the future now. We go to the sadness in the days ahead - and then we'll look to the future.

"It has to be after, not today. Tomorrow is another day."

  11. 'One of the special days of my life'published at 19:25 BST 24 May

    FT: Tottenham 1-0 Everton

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham goalscorer Joao Palhinha, speaking to BBC MOTD: "This day for us is much more than winning a game. There are a lot of people - away from the players - who live this club. A lot of people depend their lives on this club. It was a tough season but I think this season can help for the future. We can take a lot from it even if we didn't reach the level Tottenham should.

"This is one of the special days of my life in terms of everything happening. I feel very happy today."

"The goal was just a goal. I didn't care too much who scored but I just wanted to win. It didn't matter who played, we all just wanted to win. The commitment from everyone and the crowd helped us stay in the Premier League. The fans deserve better than this season.

On Roberto de Zerbi saying he wants him to stay at the club: "If he said that then I feel really happy. Let's see what happens in the future. I enjoy and love to be here with my family and represent a top club like this."

  13. 'De Zerbi was a great appointment'published at 19:22 BST 24 May

    FT: Tottenham 1-0 Everton

    Ellen White
Former England striker on Final Score

On Roberto de Zerbi's impact at Tottenham:

You just need a little bit of confidence, a little bit of belief, a little bit of love, and maybe an arm around the shoulder instead of the screaming and shouting. Tell them that they are good players, put them in a system they believe in and just make them run first to start with.

It started with a disappointing loss but then they got a draw, then another draw and then a scrapy win, and all of a sudden you start to believe. The players get a bit of confidence and you can see it.

De Zerbi's energy is infectious, sprinting down the line, you see that as a player and you want to run through brick walls for that person. I think he was a great appointment.

  14. 'Our fans always find a way of doing something special'published at 19:20 BST 24 May

    FT: Liverpool 1-1 Brentford

    Liverpool

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We had chances to score more than one goal. We almost lost in the end and in the end, it was a draw.

"There are more habits I would like to get rid of. It's not nice to concede a goal at any moment. Far too many times this season, when we are the better team, people fail to notice this because we don't create many chances.

"Many times this season, we have been counter-attacked and conceded. We deserved to qualify for the Champions League. We've been in the top five for large parts of the season."

On Salah & Robertson receptions: "Brilliant as expected. Our fans always find a way of doing something special in beautiful moments and in special moments. There was a lot of singing for Diogo Jota today."

On next season: "We brought in a lot of players last season. When they're available again, that will be a change. Every football club will sign one or two and we will do that. We need everyone available and then our results will be better."

  15. 'It has been fun'published at 19:20 BST 24 May

FT: Man City 1-2 Aston Villa

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola addressing the crowd at the Etihad Stadium: "I'm so nervous right now. Why do you love me so much? Why do you do that to me?

"I never imagined the amount of love, it had been an incredible, tremendous honour to be your manager for 10 years. Incredible emotions. My dad is here today in the stands, 95-years old - wow! Maybe he doesn't realise but I'm pretty sure in many years this stand that looks really beautiful, the name of my family will be there. That is the hugest honour.

"It is an immense honour my family will have for the rest of my life. The players don't know it, but I will be up there [in the Pep Guardiola Stand] controlling them! The players have a huge responsibility to continue these standards - hopefully they fight and fight and fight. This is my home.

"Over the next years, wherever in the world, if you see my in the streets or here at Etihad Stadium, if you are a City fan come to me. It has been a huge honour to represent this club. Every decision I took I thought was the best for this club. I love you so much. It has been fun."

  17. 'Gibbs-White did everything to make World Cup squad'published at 19:13 BST 24 May

    FT: Nottingham Forest 1-1 Bournemouth

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Vitor Pereira, spekaing to BBC Match of the Day: "When you are in a battle for relegation against teams like West Ham, Tottenham, Leeds, it is tough. With the Europa League too to compete it is not easy. At the end of the day we got the points two games before the end of the season because at the end of the season I think the results are unpredictable. We did well, a semi-final in the Europa League. In the end we are safe, I am very proud of my team and a happy man."

On Morgan Gibbs-White: "Of course I was disappointed for him but in the end he did everything to deserve. We had a conversation together and he has the feeling he did everything to be there. He did his part and in the end it is not his decision, not my decision. He is a talent and has strong character as a leader. I hope I can be his manager for a long time.

"I think to a manager when someone tries to put a player in the position or the roles that they feel comfortable and they feel they can do the difference, they can do the qualities, I think this is my job."

On having a chance to build next season: "It was a tough season because in weeks we played almost each three days. It's almost impossible to connect and improve our tactical level. That's why I say football is also about energy, belief, a good spirit. They have good character. In the end we found our balance. We deserve to celebrate today."

On a new deal for him: "I will have a meeting. They want that I stay, I want to stay. It's not difficult to find an agreement."

  18. 'We need more players'published at 19:12 BST 24 May

    FT: Tottenham 1-0 Everton

    Everton

Everton manager David Moyes speaking to BBC MOTD: "I didn't think it was a great performance from us, the second half was probably better, we had around 20 minutes at the end where we created opportunities.

"We were incredibly resilient not to buckle under early pressure, though. We gave away a lot of free kicks and that meant we had to defend a lot - the goal came from a corner kick."

On injury issues: "We need more players. I've seen it more in the last few weeks. I don't want to make excuses but also some decisions have gone against us.

On former club West Ham being relegated: "I'm really sad for them because there are a lot of great people who work behind the scenes there. A long part of the season we weren't sure if it was Nottingham Forest, West Ham or Tottenham - I thought all three were too strong to go down."

On Seamus Coleman, who cost £60,000, and is leaving this summer: "I don't think there has ever been better value for money - someone might tell me otherwise. Having longevity and being a one-club man is very rare and he deserves a lot of credit."
