I don't mind that from Harvey Barnes. He is more than capable, and he has a good goal tally this season.

Newcastle have settled well - really bold - high press. They are getting men forward when they have got the ball.

Newcastle are doing well to weather these frantic opening stages and Eddie Howe's men settle themselves down after gaining control of the ball.

Harvey Barnes doesn't need a second invitation after he's allowed to run into space, but fires a low attempt from distance well wide.

The hosts are being roared forward every time they get possession, but Leon Bailey can't pick out a team-mate as Villa attempt to breach Newcastle's back line.

And that is a very, very early yellow card for Douglas Luiz, deservedly for a late foul to prevent Newcastle breaking forward.

Lamare Bogarde gives away a free-kick for a foul on Harvey Barnes as the Aston Villa players continue to try and maintain a high tempo in the opening stages, but Newcastle's foray into the Villa half is short-lived.

Among them, Jacob Ramsey returns to boyhood club Aston Villa for the first time since his £40m move last summer.

There have been increasingly positive signs of late that the 24-year-old is finally finding his feet for Eddie Howe’s side.

Not least scoring his first goal for Newcastle in his 27th appearance in all competitions in Tuesday’s win over Tottenham.

It was his first goal in 38 games overall, including his time at Aston Villa, since he found the net against Preston in the FA Cup in March 2025. Will he get another tonight?

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to BBC One: "I think we needed the confidence from that victory against Tottenham.

"Different team, we have changed the team and we have used the squad. We are strong in our desire to still go through.

"We try to focus on the next game - today is a huge game for us. We want to keep our season alive in domestic cup competitions.

"We have Europe on the horizon, but that's not in our focus today."

Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery speaking to BBC Sport: "It's a very different competition. We must adapt to each match with the competition we are facing. Today is a very difficult match against Newcastle. They are performing very well, up and down but more up than down.

"We are trying to build our team with the structure and the players we have and today is a very good opportunity."

Mansfield Town

Mansfield Town first-team coach Andy Garner, speaking to TNT Sports: "Yeah we can [believe it]. We said that to them at half-time, that we didn't think there was anything to fear. We were a little disappointed in the first half with how much we gave the ball away, especially in the final third a bit sloppy at times.

"We said, 'let's get back into this game' and we believed we could."

On Louis Reed's winner: "Incredible. He's had a couple of free-kicks eariler this season. It was a good position in the centre and I fancied him to be honest to at least hit the target. But when it's better than that and it goes in the top corner it is a fantastic finish."

On going toe-to-toe with Burnley: "We didn't want to come here and sit back. We wanted to go forward and have a go. We did that in the first 25 minutes but the quality wasn't great and we are better than that. In the second half we improved and scored two very good goals."

It's all over!

James Bree's extra-time header secures Southampton their second victory against Leicester this week, but most importantly, a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

The cup proves no relief for Leicester, who now turn their attention back to a relegation battle in the Championship.

I was delighted for Newcastle boss Eddie Howe that his team beat Tottenham and also the reception he got from his side's fans afterwards.

For everything he has done for them, the world must have gone bonkers for their fans to be calling up 606 and saying they wanted him out.

This will be a very different test to playing Spurs, however, and I am going with my gut feeling on this one.

The two sides met recently when Villa won at St James' Park at the end of January and although Villa have slipped up a couple of times at home recently, when it clicks for them, they usually end up winning.

While Newcastle ended their 56-year wait for a major trophy by winning last season’s Carabao Cup, Aston Villa have not won silverware since lifting the League Cup in 1996.

Could this be their year?

Unai Emery’s side are third in the Premier League and within seven points of leaders Arsenal, through to the last 16 in the Europa League, and have the opportunity to put themselves among the last 16 clubs in the FA Cup this evening.

"We want to try to get better in the second part of the season, to compete in the Europa League, to compete in Premier League and to compete in FA Cup,” Emery said recently.

"Hopefully we can compete in those competitions as a protagonist as well.”

Salford City

Salford City boss Karl Robinson, speaking to BBC: "Immense amount of pride. I said before we wanted to learn if this football club wants to grow, we have to go through difficult moments.

"Until the changes they made in the 75th minute, I don't recall chance after chance. But they're always going to have chances when you're geniuses because that's what they are.

"I thought we played the clock quite well after the goal. I didn't know it was an own goal. I'm really proud of my players; it's a wonderful occasion again for our fans. We wish Man City all the luck and we dust ourselves off.

"We missed chances. You have to hit the target if you want to come into these moments.

"It gives us hope and optimism, not arrogance. We still lost and we wanted to win. We have to be the best version of ourselves and if they do that, I'll always be proud of them."

Manchester City

Man City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC: "They defended really well, so tight and we didn't attack the spaces the way we should. The game was flat until they scored the second goal. Until 2-0, the game was not good.

"You can go 1-0 and play magnificently. Sometimes you can win 3-0 and the game is not good.

"It's better for that [Marc Guehi goal]. It has been a really tough three weeks with a lot of games and it's demanding. Today was the last game and now we have a mini break.

On cup tie rules changing: "For example, he cannot play in the final of the Carabao Cup. Why can he play here and why not in the other one? Common sense [it] is not but it's OK.

On James Trafford: "He is so reliable. Fantastic keeper."
