Ben Stokes is the best choice for everything at the moment but he can't keep rowing this boat on his own.

These bowlers need to apply some pressure with skill. Use your fingertips.

Bowl at the stumps. That's all you need to do with the new ball.

England just can't seem to do it but that is how you challenge the batsman's technique. Short and wide is not challenging anything.

The ball-tracking technology goes with umpire's call on the line, with it clipping leg stump.

It was full and aimed at that front pad of Jake Weatherald who has a clear technical flaw as he again collapses attempting to work it to leg.

A bit of a skittish innings from Jake Weatherald is brought to an end by Ben Stokes.

No bat involved. Over to the ball-tracking.

The length looks good there but is it going to slip down leg-side?

Jake Weatherald hit on the pad by a full delivery from Ben Stokes.

The Aussie opener is given out, but sends it upstairs.

I want to see England bowl really full at Travis Head. This is a nice time for them to regroup and assess the conditions.

    They just need some simplicity.

This is a big innings for Jake Weatherald. Otherwise, Australia will start looking around.

  15. Aus 57-0published at 12 overs

    Trail by 331 runs

    Amen to that, Stuart.

Josh Tongue surprises Travis Head with a shorter-pitched delivery - showing the value of that control alongside his naturally-fuller length.

However, Tongue is punished later in the over when he bowls a little short and wide and Head pummels it through the point for four.

Only England could win a Test by finally bowling full and straight, then promptly revert to the short drivel that lost them the first three Tests. It’s almost like Melbourne didn’t happen.

  17. Aus 53-0published at 11 overs

Ben Stokes beats the bat of Jake Weatherald with one that nips away after squaring him up. The England skipper, however, is also trying to find his radar and gets away with a couple slanted down the leg side.

This is scintillating batting from Australia here. They are having fun.

  19. Aus 50-0published at 10 overs

England have lacked control in this opening spell. Perhaps guilty of searching for wickets rather than building some pressure with consistency in the fourth/fifth stump channel.

    Ben Stokes brings himself on.

Josh Tongue nearly gets reward for his tight lines and lengths when Travis Head goes close to chopping on.

Later in the over Tongue beats the outside edge of Jake Weatherald's tentative defensive prod with a bit of nip away.

England captain Ben Stokes is loosening up.
