  1. Clark starts well againpublished at 16:11 BST 3 April

    Leicestershire v Sussex 262-6 - tea

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

Credit to Leicestershire who have forced themselves back into the match largely through the efforts of skipper Ian Holland, who has taken three wickets bowling an excellent line and length on a pitch giving some help to the seamers.

The innings of the day has come from Tom Clark a classy 100 with shots all round the wicket including four effortless sixes.

Clark made a century in the first match of last season but failed to kick on, eventually being dropped from the Championship side, and he'll be keen to prove that won't be the case this season

New Sussex skipper Ollie Robinson would probably have taken this score having been asked to bat first, but from 192-2 Sussex will be disappointed with anything less than 300.

  2. 'Lawes looking like a young Chris Woakes'published at 16:10 BST 3 April

    Warwicks v Surrey 198-6

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

Before the season started, Surrey coach Gareth Barry compared the talents of Tom Lawes to a young Chris Woakes.

Well Lawes walked out to bat in the second over after lunch with Surrey 65-6 to face a slightly older Chris Woakes, who had just taken two wickets in three balls.

Alongside Ben Foakes, Lawes steered Surrey through the rest of the afternoon session. Lawes looked to be positive, while Foakes was his usual calm and steady self and they slowly took the sting out of the Warwickshire attack.

Their partnership was unbroken on 133 at tea, with Lawes 78* and Foakes 55* and Batty's comparison was looking very good.

  3. Postpublished at 16:06 BST 3 April

    Durham 248-7 v Kent

Gorgeous roll of the wrist from Kasey Aldridge as he gets off the mark with a leg-side whip for four off Matt Milnes.

That's 44 fours for the hosts, 176 runs of their 248 by way of boundaries.

It looks a lovely track for batting. Will we see Kent on it in the 40 overs which remain in the day?

  4. Tea at Grace Roadpublished at 16:01 BST 3 April

    Leicestershire v Sussex 262-6

Tom Clark reaches his centuryImage source, Shutterstock

An intriguing second session at Grace Road, with Sussex adding 108 runs, but losing four wickets in the process.

Tom Clark made an excellent hundred but fell to Ian Holland shortly after reaching three figures - the Leicestershire captain has figures of 3-62 from 17 overs.

The loss of John Simpson to Rehan Ahmed means Sussex will resume with two new batters - Tom Price and Fynn Hudson-Prentice - at the crease following the interval.

  5. Postpublished at 16:01 BST 3 April

    Durham 244-7 v Kent

Ben Raine is the new man in after tea, joining Kasey Aldridge who is yet to get off the mark.

Raine wallops the second ball he sees from Grant Stewart away through the covers for a no-doubt four, didn't even need to move his feet, but Stewart beats the edge with the final delivery as a perfect response.

Durham six runs away from their first point of the season, Kent already have two.

  6. Glamorgan to bat in Cardiffpublished at 15:58 BST 3 April

Glamorgan v Yorkshire - start delayed

We are going to see some play at Sophia Gardens.

The umpires have decided on a 16:15 BST start with 36 overs to be bowled.

Yorkshire have won the toss and asked their hosts to bat first.

  7. Tea at Edgbastonpublished at 15:58 BST 3 April

    Warwicks v Surrey 198-6

Tom Lawes will take tea unbeaten on a first-class best 78 with Ben Foakes on 55*.

They came together on 65-6 in the moments after lunch and have played with impressive freedom as the conditions improved to add 133 runs from 198 balls.

Kai Smith put down a sharp chance to oust Foakes off an inside edge not long ago but the lively Bears attack will have to find a way to break this resistance if they are to polish off the 2025 runners-up this evening.

Wonderful fare on the opening day - let's hope the weather lets us enjoy this one to its conclusion over the weekend.

  8. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 15:53 BST 3 April

    Northants v Lancs 215-3

Northants skipper Luke Procter should have taken that. Calvin Harrison floats one down and Michael Jones on 4 has an expansive drive which he doesn't quite get hold of.

The ball drifts slowly through the air to a fine-ish mid on where Procter reacts late, trying to take the ball with one hand as it reaches him on his left and spilling it.

  9. Taunton teatimepublished at 15:53 BST 3 April

    Som 208-4 v Notts

A 13th first-class 50 for James Rew, a 12th for Somerset was shortly followed by another 50 for Tom Abell.

Abell played Liam Patterson White's first over of the second session with ease cruising past 50 and hitting the first six of the day.

James Rew was not caught behind by Kyle Verreyne, but caught in front, a sensational diving catch after the sweep came up off the boot.

Lewis Goldsworthy rightfully was kept in the XI after his century in the final game of last season at Chelmsford in September.

He has just joined Tom Abell who is 80*.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:51 BST 3 April

Simpson lbw Ahmed 17 (Leics v Sussex 262-6)

A rare failure for John Simpson as England hopeful Rehan Ahmed finds a little bit of turn into the left-hander just before tea at Grace Road.

A decent haul of wickets for Ahmed in the early weeks of the season, assuming a repeat of last summer's form with the bat, will surely make him a very strong candidate for this summer's Test squad.

  11. 50 runs

for Ben Foakespublished at 15:50 BST 3 April

    Warwicks v Surrey 187-6

Ben Foakes cashes in on the let-off and brings up his half-century from 93 balls with his seventh four, off Ethan Bamber, to go with a solitary six.

The partnership is 122 with Tom Lawes and these two have completely changed the game.

  12. 50 runs

for Martin Anderssonpublished at 15:50 BST 3 April

    Derbys 213-4 v Worcs

    Symmetry (of a sort).

Former Derbyshire batsman Leus du Plooy has made 50 for Middlesex this afternoon - and now former Middlesex all-rounder Martin Andersson has done the same for Derbyshire.

Brett D'Oliveira comes on for his first bowl of the summer and Andersson collects a single from his second delivery to reach his half-century from just 55 balls, having recently hit three fours in the same Ethan Brookes over.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:49 BST 3 April

    Rew c Verreyne b Patterson-White 64

Notts congratulate Kyle VerreyneImage source, PA Media

What a catch from former North Devon CC and South African Test wicketkeeper Kyle Verreyne.

James Rew goes to sweep then under-edges onto his boot and up into the air for a blinding reactionary catch from the overseas 'keeper.

Well worth a watch, and surely catch of the season so far?

  14. dropped catch

Ben Foakes dropped on 45published at 15:48 BST 3 April

    Warwicks v Surrey 182-6

Lovely subplot as we have former England teammates Chris Woakes and Ben Foakes facing one another at Edgbaston.

Foakes negotiates five dot balls from Woakes before getting a big inside edge to the last ball which nips back as he drives.

Keeper Kai Smith flies to his left one-handed but can't hang on and Foakes scrambles a single.

Smith's second drop of the day, both sharp chances, after putting Ollie Pope down this morning. Pope departed soon after. Bears fans will hope Foakes follows suit.

  15. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 15:46 BST 3 April

    Hants v Essex 118-3

The hovercover is on and the players are walking slowly from the field of play. It looks like a short passing shower and they are taking an early tea.

  16. Postpublished at 15:45 BST 3 April

    Som 205-3 v Notts

A purring back foot punch from James Rew bisects cover and deep backward point, probably the latest entrance into the Match of the Day 2 equivalent, shot of the day category, 2 good.

  17. Westley out, Thain inpublished at 15:44 BST 3 April

    Hants v Essex 118-3

Tom Westley has made history as the first subbed player and Noah Thain likewise as the first fully playing substitute.

The Essex skipper withdrew on 28 after he was hit on the right hand by a rising ball from Sonny Baker.

As a like-for-like replacement Thain can play a full part in the match and bat in both innings in place of Westley. He can't bowl though.

The latter is stood down for eight days according to the regulations and therefore will miss round two against Somerset at Chelmsford which starts next Friday.

  18. wicket

WICKET (and tea at CLS)published at 15:42 BST 3 April

    Robinson lbw b Stewart 15 (Durham 240-7 v Kent)

Ollie Robinson shoulders arms to one which is angled back by Grant Stewart and it thumps him on the pad infront of off-stump.

He looks to the blue sky overhead, then back at the raised finger, and he must go.

Kent have a seventh scalp and Durham are still 10 shy of a first batting bonus point.

That will also mean an early tea. Four wickets in the session for Kent, who are just about on top, but would be far more so were it not for a sublime 128 from Emilio Gay which has kept Durham on track.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:40 BST 3 April

    Clark c Cox b Holland 101 (Leics v Sussex 252-5)

Good catch at the second attempt by wicketkeeper Ben Cox, who is standing up to the stumps for Ian Holland's medium pace.

Tom Clark departs after hitting four sixes and nine fours in a 164-ball knock, which lasted just over three and a half hours.

Holland now has 3-57 from 15 overs - great effort by the all-rounder, who was handed the captaincy at short notice after Peter Handscomb decided he could not come to England this summer.

  20. Division Two updatepublished at 15:39 BST 3 April

Worcestershire have picked up another wicket at Derby with Brooke Guest caught off Tom Taylor for 32 - caught off a toe end at cover as he tried to pull. The home side are 199-4 in the 55th over.

Middlesex have progressed to 158-3 in the 56th at Lord's, Leus du Plooy is now 57 not out and Ben Geddes has 10.
