Nobody in the stands are leaving their seats at the minute, the cricket is gripping.

  2. NZ 24-2published at 7 overs

Another vicious delivery from Jofra Archer. It's not particularly quick - 83mph - but climbs into Henry Nicholls from back of a length.

Nicholls sways his head away as the ball fizzes through.

There is something in it for these bowlers today and batting has become a more difficult art than the previous few days.

  4. NZ 23-2published at 6 overs

Rachin Ravindra gets one in the slot from Gus Atkinson and the Kiwi elegantly drives through the covers for four.

Perhaps playing aggressively might be New Zealand's route out of a tricky start.

    Conway c Root b Archer 5 (NZ 12-2)

Devon Conway flicks Jofra Archer off his pads for a couple after resuming, but he's gone next ball.

It's another short-ish ball from Archer and Conway just fiddles at it, almost turning his head away again, and it catches the shoulder of the bat.

No mistake from Joe Root at first slip as he gobbles up the catch.

Archer had clearly rattled Conway with the delivery which clocked him on the bonce a few balls previously.

  8. NZ 9-1published at 4.3 overs

Devon Conway is on his feet but there's some adjustments being made to his helmet. We've already lost Blair Tickner replaced as a concussion substitute.

No limit on the number of players who can be subbed in this manner.

It was a nasty blow to Devon Conway and this is a lengthy check. It's not easy for batting.

There has been differential movement and variable bounce in this session. The pitch has something in it and batting has become a bit more difficult than the first couple of days or so.

    NZ 9-1published at 4.3 overs

A brutish short ball from Jofra Archer.

It's dug into the pitch by the England quick and Devon Conway turns his head away to take evasive action and it clocks him on the side of the helmet.

    We have a concussion check.

  12. NZ 8-1published at 4 overs

Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls realise this is a tricky period and time to absorb some pressure. A single apiece off the over.

  14. NZ 6-1published at 3 overs

Jofra Archer arrows a quick full delivery into the toes of Devon Conway from round the wicket, but the Kiwi opener digs it out.

Archer is a bit more wayward in the remainder of the over but does not concede many runs.

  15. NZ 5-1published at 2 overs

The ball is not so much talking off a length but having a full on Michael Parkinson conversational chat.

Gus Atkinson sizzles a delivery past the edge of Devon Conway's bat which straighten as he bowls from round the wicket.

    Compelling stuff.

That just nipped back enough, hit the front and the back pad.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 1 over

    Latham lbw b Archer 4 (NZ 4-1)

Jofra Archer sets off in celebration and does not even bother to look at the umpire!

It's full from the England quick, round the wicket, but then straightens into the pad of Tom Latham, hitting him two thirds of the way up.

The Kiwi captain briefly considers a review before trudging off.

  18. NZ 4-0published at 0.5 overs

Jofra Archer causes some havoc with his opening over.

Archer beats the outside edge of Tom Latham's bat with one that straighens.

Next ball he draws an edge, albeit played with soft hands, which falls just short of Harry Brook in the slip cordon and races away for four.

The England quick then cuts Latham in two with a delivery which goes between his body and bat.
