Have your say on England men this summer

  1. NZ 51-2published at 14 overs

    Josh Tongue is bowling rockets.

Harry Brook is an excellent catcher, a conventional first slip catches that.

  4. NZ 48-2published at 13.1 overs

Josh Tongue has his hand on his head.

He draws a genuine edge from a Henry Nicholls' waft which is angled into his body from round the wicket.

Harry Brook is stood a little wide of first slip and the ball goes between him and wicketkeeper Jamie Smith and skims the turf to the boundary for four.

  5. NZ 44-2published at 13 overs

That initial movement England were finding off the seam has dissipated a little in the past few overs.

Gus Atkinson with a maiden keeps it tight to keep the pressure on.

  6. NZ 44-2published at 12 overs

Josh Tongue gets one to spit off a length at Rachin Ravindra, but the Kiwi batter plays it with soft hands and, with only one slip in place, the ball races through the cordon for four.

The ball is going to be changed so the umpires decide to call drinks with two balls of Gus Atkinson's over remaining.

With New Zealand already leading by more than 100 runs, England need to be careful with their lengths. Of the 30-odd runs New Zealand have scored so far, 14 have come from deliveries pitched on a fuller length, at 7.63 runs per over. England will need to be wary of serving up too many full deliveries at this stage.

  9. NZ 36-2published at 10.4 overs

Rachin Ravindra with another demonstrative drive.

He has bit between his teeth as he biffs Gus Atkinson back down the ground for four, beating the diving Ben Stokes at mid-off.

It's better a pitch deteriorating rather than the common theme of them getting better and better.

  11. NZ 32-2published at 10 overs

Henry Nicholls underdoes and refastens the velcro straps on his gloves between deliveries.

Josh Tongue is honing in on the stumps but Nicholls is pretty stoic.

Archer is coming to his fifth over here, I would just give him one more.

  13. NZ 31-2published at 9 overs

Henry Nicholls late cuts the fourth ball of Jofra Archer's latest over which tests the razor-sharp reflexes of Jacob Bethell at gully.

Five overs from Archer, and he might be due a break now.

  15. NZ 29-2published at 8 overs

Josh Tongue is tossed the ball by Ben Stokes now.

He's on the stumps, largely, but Rachin Ravindra thumps his final delivery of the over back down the ground for four.

Nobody in the stands are leaving their seats at the minute, the cricket is gripping.

  17. NZ 24-2published at 7 overs

Another vicious delivery from Jofra Archer. It's not particularly quick - 83mph - but climbs into Henry Nicholls from back of a length.

Nicholls sways his head away as the ball fizzes through.

There is something in it for these bowlers today and batting has become a more difficult art than the previous few days.

  19. NZ 23-2published at 6 overs

Rachin Ravindra gets one in the slot from Gus Atkinson and the Kiwi elegantly drives through the covers for four.

Perhaps playing aggressively might be New Zealand's route out of a tricky start.
