  1. Eng 142-6published at 36 overs

    Lead by 169

Another boundary, this time as Jamie Smith sends a thick outside edge past gully.

Nine from the over, the lead moves that bit closer to 200.

And even closer still! Another edge from England's Smith as he drives at Nathan Smith - in the air but between the slips and gully.

This is now the highest score in the match so that's something...

If it does end up going in the same direction as Perth, I think I'll let Simon Mann go and interview Ben Stokes this time.

  3. Eng 133-6published at 35.2 overs

    Lead by 160

Four very handy runs for England as Gus Atkinson gets off the mark with a smart drive through the covers.

In Perth, it's fair to say that the wicket seemed to be getting easier to bat on as time went on, but that's certainly not the case here.

  5. Eng 129-6published at 35 overs

    Lead by 156

Jamie Smith drives his first ball back down the ground for two. They're all crucial runs for England at this point.

We've got another broken bat as Smith then defends from Will O-Rourke - the uneven bounce is certainly contributing to the number we've seen in this match.

Just two from the over. A touch less than half an hour to until tea, still plenty of time for more chaos.

New Zealand are absolutely rampant at the moment.

Make that 4-1 in 11 balls. Over tonight?

  9. Eng 127-6published at 34 overs

    Lead by 154

    New Zealand are flying!

The clouds have rolled in, the lights are on, the ball is nipping around and England have lost 4-1.

How do the home side play it now? Go for quick runs and hope somewhere around 180-200 is enough on this pitch?

Ben Stokes has just missed a straight ball. You can't blame the pitch for that.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 33.4 overs

    Stokes b Smith 0 (Eng 127-6)

    Bowled 'im! England are crumbling!

Ben Stokes looks bemused but he's just missed a straight one.

Round the wicket from Nathan Smith, angled in at off stump and it finds its target as the England skipper plays down the wrong line.

Perth, etc. England lost 3-0 in six balls at the Optus. This is 3-1 in eight balls.

New Zealand will feel they've got one back there. What a game this is turning out to be, it's a fascinating game of cricket. Every run is crucial.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 33.1 overs

    Root lbw b Smith 8 (Eng 127-5)

Umpire's call but Joe Root has to go and this game suddenly feels very different.

It's superbly bowled by Nathan Smith, getting the ball to come back sharply and catch Root on the crease.

It hits just above the knee-roll but the ball doesn't have much further to travel.

Clipping, says ball-tracking, and New Zealand now have the momentum.

  15. England reviewpublished at 33.1 overs

    Eng 127-4

I think Joe Root is in big trouble here!

He's pinned in front by Nathan Smith and it's a late, reluctant review.

Brook didn't really offer a shot at it, his bat was nowhere near it.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 33 overs

    Brook lbw b O'Rourke 0 (Eng 127-4)

Three reds and Harry Brook falls without scoring.

It was arrowed in very full by Will O'Rourke and Brook got himself in all kinds of trouble.

He was hit on the knee-roll and ball-tracking shows it was going on to hit the top of leg.

Two quick wickets and renewed hope for New Zealand.

  18. England reviewpublished at 33 overs

    Eng 127-3

Harry Brook gets himself in an almighty tangle and is eventually given out lbw.

He reviews immediately but this looks close.

I think the pitch is adding to the interest and excitement. There are too many flat tracks with nothing for the bowler. Make the batters work.

  20. Eng 127-3published at 32.2 overs

    Lead by 153

Will O'Rourke is back into the attack and jags one back to Joe Root first up. No easing into the spell from the big quick!

Root defends into the covers and scampers through for a single to bring new batter Harry Brook on strike for the first time.
