Summary

Have your say on England men this summer

  1. NZ 83-8published at 24 overs

Just a single from Ollie Robinson's over as Kyle Jamieson continues to have a swing at almost everything.

It's gloomy and a little dark at Lord's, but it doesn't look like it's going to rain.

Probably time for batters to stop leaving on length on this pitch, I reckon.

There's been a number of misjudgements in this game. It cut back quite significantly. It's that slope again.

  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 23 overs

    Smith b Tongue 15 (NZ 82-8)

    Josh Tongue is on fire!

Nathan Smith was looking pretty solid out there but he becomes the latest batter to be bowled after misjudging a leave.

Jamie Smith and Daryl Mitchell were the other victims of the same mistake, thinking they could leave on length.

That was a proper bouncer, a quick one too.

  6. NZ 77-7published at 22.2 overs

Not long at all, is the answer.

Josh Tongue bowls a fierce bouncer that clatters Kyle Jamieson in the head, which prompts the mandatory concussion check. He's fine, but that was nasty.

It's a good effort from Tongue - you have to bowl it pretty short and pretty fast to reach Jamieson's head.

  7. NZ 77-7published at 22 overs

Jamieson takes more singles out to the sweepers on the boundary, as he continues to attack.

I wonder how long it'll be before England start bowling short at him.

This is dangerous because Ben Stokes wants to attack. He wants to have men up in catching positions.

  9. NZ 74-7published at 21.2 overs

Yep, he's going to have some fun.

Kyle Jamieson gets some width and swipes it past point for four.

Ben Stokes shuffles the field around in response, putting a boundary sweeper out on each side.

  10. NZ 70-7published at 21 overs

    Trail by 70

Nathan Smith completes the over with a glorious drive through the covers for four.

That's followed by a big cheer around Lord's as Ollie Robinson replaces Ben Stokes.

  11. NZ 66-7published at 20.3 overs

Kyle Jamieson's first two shots suggest that New Zealand's lower order are going to try and get a move on.

He drills the first ball to mid-off before taking an almighty swipe and edging past the stumps for single.

It just held its line a little bit and went up against the slope. It's just nipped away. Don't forget this ball is only 20 overs old.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 20.1 overs

    Phillips b Tongue 34 (NZ 65-7)

    What a start!

Glenn Phillips was the only New Zealand batter to look close to comfortable on this pitch, but he's cleaned up by Tongue who sends the off stump flying out of the ground.

This game continues to move forward rapidly.

  14. NZ 65-6published at 20 overs

Ben Stokes oversteps to gift New Zealand their first run of the day, before Glenn Phillips punches through the covers for three.

Josh Tongue will take the second over, so Robinson will most likely replace Stokes from the other end.

It was quite a chaotic day yesterday, but they are quite compelling aren't they?

  16. 'Hopefully we can blow the tail away'published at 10:59 BST 5 June

England vice-captain Harry Brook talking to BBC Test Match Special about Ollie Robinson: “He was unbelievable. It’s so good to see him back like that as well, putting us in a really strong position and hopefully we can blow the tail away this morning and get back out there batting.”

On feeling after being 140 all out: “We were very calm. We knew there was enough in the surface there that we could almost bowl them out last night.

"Thankfully we put the balls in the right areas, we were persistent with our lines and lengths and we got the reward.”

Lord's is bathed in red as Sir Andrew Strauss joins the players of both sides in the middle, where there are some clouds overhead but thankfully it looks like the rain will stay away today.

Glenn Phillips resumes on 31 for New Zealand, and is joined by Nathan Smith. Bad light ended play mid-over last night, so Ben Stokes has four balls to get through and then surely it'll be over to Ollie Robinson.

  18. Here's to you, Ollie Robinsonpublished at 10:54 BST 5 June

Yesterday was all about the comeback of Ollie Robinson.

After more than two years away from international cricket, he lit up Lord's with three wickets in his first over back and finished the day with 4-10.

He admitted that over the winter, when England were getting hammered in Australia and he was playing club cricket out there, he admitted that he didn't think he'd ever pull on the shirt again.

Add in the sun poking through the clouds and a rain-free weather forecast and we're all set for a fascinating day two.
