  1. NZ 113-9published at 29.4 overs

Ben Stokes is having fun, setting those funky fields of his that we saw frequently during the early Bazball days.

He has three fielders straight down the ground - long-on, long-off and Harry Brook is stationed in between them, almost directly behind the bowler.

Jamieson takes the single and Matt Henry has two balls to survive.

  2. NZ 112-9published at 29.1 overs

    Ha, yep.

Clears the front leg, one-bounce four down the ground.

Matt Henry looks to me like he's going down the Will O'Rourke route, giving Jamieson the strike.

  4. NZ 108-9published at 29 overs

Matt Henry blocks the rest of the over and I think we can expect Kyle Jamieson to start properly slogging now.

New Zealand trail by 32 so any runs he can get to chip away at that will be priceless.

  5. wicket

    O'Rourke c Brook b Atkinson 1 (NZ 108-9)

    The bowling change works!

Gus Atkinson replaces Josh Tongue and strikes with his second ball, ending Will O'Rourke's resistance.

He pokes at a full delivery, barely moves his feet, and edges to Harry Brook at second slip.

England have let Kyle Jamieson off at a crucial stage here. This is the first time Jamieson has scored 30 or more in a Test innings since November 2021. They need to wrap this quickly to maintain a healthy lead.

  7. NZ 107-8published at 28 overs

Not a short ball in sight and just a single from the over.

In case you missed it earlier, here's how Josh Tongue removed both Glenn Phillips and Nathan Smith. The sound as the ball hits the off stump is so satisfying.

With the field Ben Stokes has put in place, there's no excuse for Ollie Robinson to bowl short. He just dragged a couple down in the last over.

  9. NZ 106-8published at 27.1 overs

Fuller ball from Robinson, and Kyle Jamieson swings and misses with the ball fizzing past his leg stump.

    That's more like it.

Why do we always change the way we bowl to the tailenders away from what has brought us success up to this point?

  11. NZ 106-8published at 27 overs

Much better from Josh Tongue, who continues to pitch the ball up and beat the bat of Will O'Rourke.

I think it's a tired square. A week of really hot weather and then dodgy weather leading into the Test, I can't imagine that's easy [to prepare]. It's not an easy pitch to bat on but we are in for a good Test match.

  13. NZ 105-8published at 26 overs

Full and straight to Will O'Rourke, though, who defends and Jamieson keeps the strike.

The New Zealand camp have confirmed that Matt Henry, who was off the pitch for most of yesterday with back spasms, will be coming out to bat.

I can't understand why Ollie Robinson is just dragging it down. It's not as if he's bowling as fast as Josh Tongue for example.

  15. 6 runs

    NZ 104-8published at 25.4 overs

Two wickets to get on a bowler-friendly surface, so obviously the plan is to put fielders on the boundary and bowl short.

Kyle Jamieson whacks Ollie Robinson for back-to-back sixes.

  16. NZ 90-8published at 25 overs

This is very entertaining from Jamieson.

After the six, he's clearly expecting another short ball from Tongue as he is so far back in his crease.

He nudges into the leg side for a single and just about manages to avoid stepping on to his stumps, with all the grace and elegance you'd expect from a man who is almost seven foot tall.

It looks like the pitch has settled a little bit, it feels like there's less sideways movement.

The slope is obviously still coming into play, there's still uneven bounce and that's probably the most difficult thing to contend with.

  18. 6 runs

    NZ 89-8published at 24.2 overs

    Now then!

Kyle Jamieson picks up Josh Tongue's slower ball and sends it into the Lord's pavilion for six.

England's seamers have been far more consistent in challenging the stumps, with 25% of their deliveries projected to hit, compared to only 9% from New Zealand.

Josh Tongue has figures of 3-32 now. With all eyes on Robinson, he's been the star of the morning.
