    Hampshire 152-6 v Notts

Nottinghamshire bowler Josh Tongue reacts to a deliveryImage source, Rex Features

A weather-impacted day in Southampton is officially at a close.

Nottinghamshire won the toss this morning and elected to bowl first, a decision which on the balance of the play, along with the favourable conditions, was the correct call.

Australian quick Fergus O'Neill took 4/32 as he tore through the Hants top order, with only Nick Gubbins (36) offering any resistance before lunch.

Reduced to 105-6 when Josh Tongue snared the wicket of Ben Brown, things appeared ominous for the lowly hosts, but Felix Organ (34 not out) provided a counter attack with a series of boundaries before bad light ended the day prematurely.

  2. Not outpublished at 18:29 BST 15 May

    Yorkshire 360-4 v Surrey

Jonny Bairstow (114*) is trapped on the back pad by Sean Abbott and there is a big appeal for lbw but the umpire shakes his head.

It was a good shout - may have been just missing leg stump though. The closest Surrey have come to taking a wicket in a long, long, long time.

Two overs remaining in the day at Headingley.

    Cook b Holland 0 (Essex 0-1 v Leics 333)

When you see the name Cook at the top of the Essex batting order, you think of Sir Alastair, not Sam.

But it is the latter who comes out to open the batting for a three-over mini-session and rapidly departs for a second-ball duck.

To be fair to him, that ball from Ian Holland might have been too much for a genuine top-order batter, seaming away and hitting off stump.

Essex try again and send out Jamie Porter as a second nightwatchman.

  4. Bad light stops play at Southamptonpublished at 18:26 BST 15 May

    Hampshire 152-6 v Notts

We have had rain aplenty at the Utilita Bowl today and now bad light has put the brakes on the day's play between Hampshire and Notts.

You would imagine that will be that for the day with Hants 152-6, thanks in no small part to the contribution of Felix Organ, who is 34 not out.

    Montgomery lbw Roland-Jones 23 (Middx 177 v Derbys 86-3)

Matthew Montgomery walks in front of his stumps and then plays slightly across the line as Toby Roland-Jones wins an lbw decision for Middlesex's third wicket.

Montgomery put on 49 with Caleb Jewell, who has now been joined by nightwatchman Nick Potts.

  6. Postpublished at 18:24 BST 15 May

    Glamorgan 334-8 v Warwickshire

These are useful lower-order runs indeed for Glamorgan.

Following the flurry of wickets with the new ball, which reduced Glammy to 300-8, there was the danger they would be skittled this evening - but Mason Crane and teenager Tom Norton have re-stabilised the innings and have put on 34.

There are just under three overs remaining in the day's play.

  7. Close of play at Beckenhampublished at 18:22 BST 15 May

    Kent 385-4 v Durham

England captain Ben Stokes shakes the hand of Ben Dawkins as the players leave the field at Beckenham - a nice gesture after a superb effort by the young Kent opener.

The 19-year-old batted through the entire day for 180 not out after being dropped on 63 by David Bedingham.

Dawkins put on 303 with Sam Northeast, who made 141 before being caught at slip off Ben Raine, the first of three quick wickets which at least gave Durham reason to smile after a tough day.

Stokes took 1-70 - the morning wicket of Zak Crawley for 30 - from 13 overs despite reportedly not feeling 100%.

    Gloucs 154 v Northants 22-0

    Ed Seabourne
    Commentator on BBC Radio Bristol

"Northamptonshire potentially have seen off all the overs they'll have to bat this evening...

"There's still over an hour's worth of cricket left in terms of overs remaining, 16.5 overs...

But equally there's going to have to be a significant improvement in light levels."

  9. 350 up for Yorkshirepublished at 18:18 BST 15 May

    Yorkshire 352-4 v Surrey

An inside edge from Adam Lyth goes down to fine leg for four to bring up Yorkshire's 350.

  10. Postpublished at 18:18 BST 15 May

    Hampshire 143-6 v Notts

Felix Organ has injected some life into this Hampshire innings. He currently sits on a quick-fire 30 which has included six fours.

Delano Potgieter, on debut, has dug in with 10 from 43 deliveries. Hants will be aiming for these two see them through to the close.

  11. Postpublished at 18:17 BST 15 May

    Yorkshire 347-4 v Surrey

The new ball from Jordan Clark climbs up on Adam Lyth but the left-hander plays it expertly well to keep it down.

We have five overs remaining on day one at Headingley. The partnership between Lyth and Jonny Bairstow is now worth an incredible 226.

  12. LEICESTERSHIRE ALL OUTpublished at 18:16 BST 15 May

    Essex v Leics 333

Job done by Leicestershire as Shane Snater produces one which is far too good for Josh Hull and bowls him for one.

Snater has figures of 3-59 and there are also three in the innings for South Africa's Wiaan Mulder.

Leicestershire were storming along at 166-2 at lunch, with Sol Budinger in great touch, but his dismissal for 89 was the key to an Essex fightback which not only slowed the scoring rate but also brought them regular wickets.

Stevie Eskinazi made exactly 50 before he was bowled by Sam Cook.

  13. Bad light stops play at Bristolpublished at 18:14 BST 15 May

    Gloucs 154 v Northants 22-0

An absolute beauty from Gabe Bell.

He gets a ball to bounce and leave Ricardo Vasconcelos - and now we are going off.

  14. Postpublished at 18:13 BST 15 May

    Kent 382-4 v Durham

If Ben Dawkins is tired after a long day of batting, he isn't showing it.

Kasey Aldridge strays onto leg stump and he puts it away unerringly to mid-wicket for four to advance to 180 not out.

  15. Postpublished at 18:12 BST 15 May

    Gloucs 154 v Northants 22-0

There's plenty of encouragement for the Gloucestershire attack as Gabe Bell finds a bit of movement to beat Luke Procter outside the off stump.

Will Williams is off the field and now Matt Taylor is bowling to Ricardo Vasconcelos.

A short ball is pulled to fine leg... Keeper James Bracey tears in to go for the catch but can't quite hold on.

A let off for Vasconcelos - who takes a single to move on to 15.

It is rather gloomy here and the umpires are having a chat...

    We'll continue.

  16. Postpublished at 18:11 BST 15 May

    Middx 177 v Derbys 74-2

Another over ticks by at Lord's, but there are still 10 more to be bowled. Matthew Montgomery cover drives Naavya Sharma for four and is 17 not out.

  17. Close of play at Southportpublished at 18:08 BST 15 May

Lancs 28-0 v Worcs 270 (Lancs trail by 242 runs)

George Balderson sees through Tom Taylor's sixth over, his final of the day, and that is stumps on day one at Southport.

It's a day that has swung one way and then the other - but Lancashire captain James Anderson will probably be pretty happy with his side's work at close after winning the toss this morning and electing to bowl.

In the field, Lancashire bowled Worcestershire all out for 270 - but it could have potentially been even better as when Adam Hose was dismissed, the Pears were 107-6.

Matthew Waite top scored for the visitors with a terrific counter attack but he was last man out for 77 when he was superbly caught in the field by Harry Singh.

No real problems for Lancashire in reply so far with the Red Rose cautiously negotiating the first 11 overs of their first-innings without risk.

  18. Close of play at Tauntonpublished at 18:06 BST 15 May

    Somerset 333-5 v Sussex

Somerset have had the better of the day, though it could have been better still given how fluent James Rew and Tom Lammonby were with the bat earlier today.

Henry Crocombe bowls from the River End. Tom Abell and Craig Overton pick up a single each.

Overton refuses to be drawn into playing shorter balls outside off stump and the last ball of the day fizzes harmlessly down the leg side.

Overton finishes unbeaten on 26 and Abell is not out on 74 - his sixth score of 50 or more in 10 innings.

Somerset will fully expect to get a third batting point tomorrow, though a fourth is a long way off, given the bonus points only apply to the first 110 overs. 96 bowled already.

Ollie Robinson impressed with 1-28 off 13 overs, while Tom Haines dispatched Jordan Hermann and the dangerous James Rew - though the latter could have been dismissed much earlier but for a drop at mid wicket and again at slip before he'd reached 40.

    Yorkshire 345-4 v Surrey

Ouch! We'll have to have a stoppage here.

Adam Lyth is clonked on the head by a short ball from Jordan Clark and the head injury protocol will now take place.

Jonny Bairstow doesn't look too concerned about his partner at the other end, however, sharing a laugh with Clark while taking a drink out of the physio's bag.

Maximum bowling points for Essex as Jamie Porter has Ben Mike lbw.

Leicestershire are going to feel they've left a few out there when this innings is over - but Essex have done tremendously well after the visitors were 166-2 at lunch.
