Finally, a proper cricket match. I would much rather watch a grueling battle of attrition than instant boundary hunting on a highway that gifts truckloads of runs. We need surfaces that keep the bowlers in the game and force the batters to actually earn their runs.

A couple of singles as Gurnoor Brar continues.

Joe Root has 31 off 49 balls, while Sam Curran has 10 from 17.

India have stuck to three seamers thus far - here comes a fourth, Shivam Dube.

Somewhere between Brook and Tuchel is the perfect balance of attack and defence.

You just always feel that Joe Root is key.

I'd like to feel not so reliant on him, can someone else make it feel a bit better.

  5. Eng 66-3published at 14 overs

Sam Curran adds four from the first ball of the drinks break, pulling Jasprit Bumrah square.

Meanwhile here's how Harry Brook contrived to lose his wicket.

Harry Brook being as frustrating as ever! So much time left in the game and just needed to knuckle down instead of playing a silly aggressive shot like that!

    Harry J, Aylesbury

Brook needs educating. 234 needed in 50 overs and he plays silly shots instead of cricket! When will England learn to read the game and its requirements?

How many times will Brook throw away his wicket before he learns or is dropped

England just don't need to panic, they've got time on their side. They went a bit hell for leather and reckless with Harry Brook. But we're used to that from him now.

    Evenly poised.

England's batters work Gurnoor Brar around for four singles as we head into drinks.

It's another glorious evening in Cardiff, with only a few patches of the pitch in shade as it stands.

Gurnoor Brar's wicket-taking delivery to Harry Brook was just the third instance of an Indian bowler taking a wicket in England and Wales with a delivery over 90mph since 2007 (both others by Jasprit Bumrah).

Jasprit Bumrah switches ends to replace Prasidh Krishna and a couple of singles come off his fifth over.

    England's current run-rate is 4.66, while the required run-rate is 4.68.

Wickets are the currency in this innings.

You just have no idea what Harry Brook is going to do. It's so stressful watching him, imagine batting at number five.

Little bit ugly. Went to the off side and it sort of followed him a bit, managed to get a glove on it. Strange knock, a Harry Brook knock.

Big wicket for India, he can be really dangerous if it's his day.

That was a very Harry Brook ending.

Well, this caught behind isn't quite like the other two.

Harry Brook drops into another ramp to Gurnoor Brar and falls staggering backwards.

The ball knicks the shoulder of his bat on its way through to Ishan Kishan, who takes his third catch of the day.

England don't need to panic. There is plenty of time particularly as India didn't use all their overs.

What I'm starting to enjoy about this game is the balance between bat and ball. It's possible to get some shots with the bat but there's also something in the surface for the bowlers.
