This has been a much improved performance from the England team in general. Having the luxury of that extra seamer has benefited the bowlers, but I think Harry Brook’s captaincy has been a lot smarter.

  2. Ind 210-8published at 41 overs

Jasprit Bumrah inside edges his opening delivery and Jos Buttler splats down to his left to stop the ball from running away to the rope.

Joe Root is moved into the slips. Jacob Bethell is under the helmet around short leg.

Saqib Mahmood ends up down on his haunches as Bumrah's next effort drops just short of gully.

Bumrah finishes the over with two defensive dots. Wicket maiden.

Saqib Mahmood must be thinking he's got a chance of going bang-bang and finishing this off.

That was the indeterminate length which confused the batter and he sliced the drive. Well bowled again. England are getting wickets at nice times.

England have got to be happy with this position?

He ducked into that, he didn't move. He stood there and let it thud in.

  8. Ind 210-7published at 40 overs

Gurnoor Brar sways away from a short delivery from Jofra Archer and punches two fuller ones into the covers. Two. Two.

He wears a short delivery on his body - dropping his bat and going for a walk in the aftermath - but takes a single off the next one. Well navigated.

Shreyas Iyer dots out the over. Archer finishes with figures of 3-47.

The last time four England pace bowlers each bowled three or more overs in a home ODI was back in 2023 against New Zealand - the addition of an extra quick has certainly benefitted Brook's flexibility as captain today compared to in Southampton.

Four added to India's tally. Shreyas Iyer is unbeaten on a run-a-ball 64, Gurnoor Brar has 2 (8).

Jofra Archer (3-42) is going to bowl out.

I've been impressed with Harry Brook's bowling changes again.

  14. Ind 201-7published at 38 overs

Shreyas Iyer gobbles up a short delivery from Jofra Archer, pulling fine for four.

He immediately follows it with a single, seemingly reassured by Gurnoor Brar's defence in the previous over. Brar covers drives elegantly for a single of his own. Lovely from India's number nine.

Brar later survives a vicious bouncer from Archer.

Seven from the over. 200 up for India.

That Archer over certainly changed the complexion of the game, giving all sorts of options to Brook.

If I was Harry Brook, I'd bowl Archer out to try and end the innings as soon as possible.

We only really see this type of cricket in Tests.

You feel that India will have to keep the board moving to some extent though.

  18. Ind 194-7published at 37 overs

Shreyas Iyer has started turning down singles. He plays Saqib Mahmood's third delivery down to third and finally deems it safe to call Gurnoor Brar through for one.

It's the only scoring shot of the over.

    Kieran Parmley

England have really gone into the pitch since Gus Atkinson's return to the attack in the 28th over, operating with an average length of 8.5 metres. They've bowled only two deliveries fuller than six metres.

  20. Ind 193-7published at 36 overs

Jofra Archer fires a short ball at Gurnoor Brar who is lucky not to divert his defensive effort into his grille/body.

No hat-trick but Archer has ripped India open.
