    Northants 258 & 117-6 v Lancs 384 & 194

Are there the odd signs of frustration creeping into the body language of Lancs fielders? Maybe just a touch.

James Sales and George Bartlett continue to row against the tide of this match with the latter 41 from 44 balls and Sales 24 with the partnership now 67.

The ball is a couple of overs shy of raising its bat at 50 and batting is looking easier for the set pair.

Just when we were in a bad position and his test place on the line, Jamie Smith with a crucial innings. Hopefully secured a draw and potentially one that McCullum will look back on in the future. The only negative against Smith, it is day 4 at Headingley.

    Kian, Pagham

I know its the first week of the season and still several games to go before New Zealand, but Smith vs Foakes for the gloves this summer looks to be an interesting battle.

    Bean lbw Crane 23 (Yorks 67-1 - target 295)

    Vital wicket for Glamorgan.

Mason Crane floats one up and there is just enough turn to beat Finlay Bean's forward defensive - the umpire upholds the appeal.

Sam Whiteman is in at number three for the Tykes.

  4. wicket

Crawley lbw b Potts 20 (Kent 41-2 - need 357 to win at Durham)

    The luck didn't last long.

Matty Potts gets Zak Crawley for the second time in the game.

Potts gets one to straighten on his England teammate, beats the bat and thumps the pads in front of leg stump.

Tawanda Muyeye joins Sam Northeast in the middle hoping to steady the Kent ship.

Kent 38-1 - need 357 to win at Durham

Double teapot from Ben Raine as he thinks he's trapped Zak Crawley infront but his huge and concerted appeal is turned down.

The England man gets the benefit of the doubt, was it a touch high? Raine certainly doesn't think so, and it looks like a stroke of luck for the Kent opener.

  6. Postpublished at 14:27 BST 6 April

Kent 37-1 - need 357 to win at Durham

Ben Raine is into the attack for the first time but his first delivery is cut away by Sam Northeast to the cover-point boundary.

Zak Crawley moved to 18* at the end of the previous over from Matty Potts with a textbook cover drive.

16 from 20 balls between these two. If they just can keep that going for another 45 overs we'll have ourselves a finish...

Notts 17-0 - target 417 to win at Somerset

Ben Slater has put the pressure behind him and produced a gorgeous back-foot cut to the backward point boundary off Alfie Ogborne and now a lovely pull to the rope off Craig Overton at the start of he next over.

Overton replies by beating the edge as Slater comes down in defence.

Absorbing stuff five overs into the final innings.

  8. Postpublished at 14:22 BST 6 April

    Yorkshire 63-0 - target 295

Exactly the start Yorkshire would have been hoping for after Glamorgan declared at lunch.

Adam Lyth cover drives Timm van der Gugtan for four and then square cuts the next ball to the point boundary.

He is 41 not out and Finlay Bean has 21.

  9. Postpublished at 14:21 BST 6 April

Notts 8-0 - target 417 to win at Somerset

Alfie Ogborne has been a coat of varnish away from the breakthrough three times in this over.

Ben Slater is not having a very comfortable time at all.

Haseeb Hameed picked up the first boundary of the innings with an inside edge which flashed past his own stumps and away to the fine leg rope.

  10. Postpublished at 14:18 BST 6 April

Kent 29-1 - need 357 to win at Durham

That's old-school Zak Crawley, leaning confidently on a widish one from Kemar Roach and galloping three runs with Sam Northeast as the ball is stopped just inside the rope.

Northeast gets off the mark from his seventh ball with a nice cut to the backward point boundary two balls later but survives an almighty scare from the next ball as the ball flicks off his pad just outside the line.

    Roderick b. Bashir 9 (Worcestershire 177-5 trail by 136)

Gareth Roderick tries to sweep a turning delivery from Shoaib Bashir and is bowled.

A curious choice of shot with Worcestershire trying to bat out the day.

They still trail Derbyshire by 136 with five wickets in hand.

  12. SUSSEX BEAT LEICS BY 222 RUNSpublished at 14:14 BST 6 April

    Leicestershire 245 & 258 v Sussex 361 & 364

Sussex start the summer with a win at Grace Road as Ben Green pulls a short ball from Henry Crocombe and Fynn Hudson-Prentice takes the catch safely at square leg.

Pace bowler Crocombe finishes with 4-36 and career-best match figures of 9-69 after the visitors had been held up during the morning by a stand of 103 between Ben Cox (60) and Stevie Eskinazi (54)

Sussex skipper Ollie Robinson chose not to bowl himself on the final day, but in the end was not needed.

Having begun the season on -12 points because of their financial issues, they move into the black at the first attempt.

  13. Postpublished at 14:14 BST 6 April

Notts 1-0 - target 417 to win at Somerset

Haseeb Hameed and Ben Slater are under the pump here.

The openers have played and missed at Alfie Ogborne and Craig Overton several times in the opening two overs.

    Tense stuff at sun-soaked Taunton.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:11 BST 6 April

Compton c Aldridge b Roach 8 (Kent 21-1 - need 357 to win at Durham)

Kemar Roach found the edge of Zak Crawley's bat at the start of the over but the ball flashes past second slip and away for four.

But he has the breakthrough now, tempting Ben Compton into a push forward and an edge into the hands of Kasey Aldridge down low to his left at second slip.

Sam Northeast joins Zak Crawley in the middle, trying to quell the early Durham enthusiasm.

  15. Postpublished at 14:10 BST 6 April

    Northants 258 & 98-6 v Lancs 384 & 194

James Sales had a lucky escape a couple of overs back when a late defensive block saw the ball dribble back towards the stumps from a delivery from Tom Bailey.

Fortunately for him it missed and now he is up to 16 and his partnership with George Bartlett up to 48.

In losing situations like this it is important that sides try to take every single positive they can with next week's round two in mind and the way these two have batted since lunch in one such plus.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:07 BST 6 April

    Wood c Carson b Crocombe 17 (Leics 255-9 - target 481)

    Sussex almost there.

A nasty bouncer from Henry Crocombe hits Sam Wood on the helmet via the bat handle and Jack Carson catches the rebound.

Yadvinder Singh is Leicestershire's number 11.

  17. Notts begin reply at Tauntonpublished at 14:07 BST 6 April

Notts 0-0 - target 417 to win at Somerset

Haseeb Hameed and Ben Slater open up for the Champions, with Craig Overton sending down the first over.

A hair under seven an over required. Surely they'll be content to bat time and not worry about the nominal target?

  18. Postpublished at 14:05 BST 6 April

Kent 16-0 - need 357 to win at Durham

Pretty suffocating stuff from Matty Potts, who has allowed just one run from his first three overs.

Zak Crawley and Ben Compton are, understandably, playing it safe.

  19. New ball pleasepublished at 14:05 BST 6 April

    Warwickshire 544 v Surrey 328 & 300-3

Warwickshire have taken the new ball and having been frustrated all day so far this is surely their last chance to make something happen.

Smith and Lawrence have now put on 151 for the fourth wicket

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:04 BST 6 April

Price b Higgins 44 (Glocs 176-8, trail by 53 runs)

Through the gate. Ryan Higgins has a third and Middx edge closer to the finishing line.

Glocs are still 53 away from making Middx openers get their pads on again and it is now long odds on that this will be over quickly from here.

Higgins has been hitting the perfect lines with the new ball and although that was a big enough gap between bat and pad left helpfully by Oli Price, the MIddx man is once again on the money.
