Big mistake by Farhan taking the single to grab his hundred. That was the last run he scored for Pakistan and everyone else fell apart taking big swings instead of trying to nudge a single to get him back on strike.

Those are two shots of authority from Kamil Mishara and that feels like Sri Lanka are back in it - at least to reach the total of 147. It's too early to call it.

  3. SL 20-1published at 2.3 overs

And he beats the diving fielder in between point and cover for four more! Back-to-back boundaries for Kamil Mishara.

Pakistan don't have runs to play with.

  4. 6 runs

    SL 16-1published at 2.2 overs

Six! All the way over mid-on from Kamil Mishara.

    Shaheen Shah Afridi looks rueful.

  5. SL 10-1published at 2 overs

    Target 213

Good over from Naseem Shah, restricting Sri Lanka to five runs and picking up the wicket of Pathum Nissanka.

Remember, keeping Sri Lanka to 147 or under will send Pakistan through to the semi-finals - and send New Zealand home.

There is the wicket! That is a big, big breakthrough. That is just the start that Pakistan needed.

Pathum Nissanka knew as soon as he'd hit that. Ballooning straight to Mohammad Nawaz at extra cover.

Naseem Shah spreads his arms in celebration. Delight for Pakistan!

  8. SL 6-0published at 1.2 overs

Oh, it's a wide from Naseem Shah. Don't give away freebies!

Is it just me or have the Pakistan cricket team just done a very Pakistan cricket team thing? Those last 2 overs felt light - this feels like it is going to be really tight now.

  10. SL 5-0published at 1 over

    Target 213

After three balls, Pathum Nissanka gets off strike with a single.

Kamil Mishara takes half as long to get up and running, squirting an outside edge over the fielder at third and away for a one-bounce four

  11. SL 0-0published at 0.1 overs

And we're off! Pathum Nissanka defends the opening delivery of Sri Lanka's innings into the covers.

Pakistan have done rather well. There will be reflection on the last eight wickets falling for 34 runs at the end but they'd have snapped your hand off for 212 at the start.

The players are out in the middle for the second innings.

Shaheen Shah Afridi will open the bowling for Pakistan, with Pathum Nissanka and Kamil Mishara batting for Sri Lanka.

Will Pakistan get through to the last four? Thumbs up for yes. Thumbs down for no.

Thanks Tim - a nice hospital pass!

Word on the street is 147 is the magic number. 147 or under will send Pakistan through to the semi-finals.

148 or more and it's New Zealand who will celebrate.

Pakistan would have gratefully accepted this total if you had offered it to them, mind.

In terms of net run-rate calculations for Pakistan to progress to the semi-finals I can report that Elizabeth Botcherby is a better mathematician than I.

She will crunch the numbers and let you know the specifics while talking you through the Sri Lanka chase.

  16. 'It went to plan...'published at 15:28 GMT 28 February

Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman: "At the moment, we are really happy. We were looking for 200 and we got 212. So far, so good, but we have to bowl well.

"I knew yesterday at training [I was opening the batting]. Mike [Hesson] said are you ready and I said of course, I'm ready for any position."

On Pakistan's game plan: "Our game plan was very simple. We were not going on every ball. We were looking for good cricket shots. If we have wickets in hand, we can score big and it went to plan. There was nothing big in our mind. We knew if we had wickets in hand, we can do anything."

On the conditions: "I think it changes. With the new ball, it's not that difficult to play. As the ball gets older, it's not that easy. I personally think the wicket was not that extraordinarily good for batting. We scored enough runs and now we have to defend."

They've got a genuine shot at defending this. But Sri Lanka are in play for everything. They've got good batters.

  18. Sri Lanka set 213 for victorypublished at 15:25 GMT 28 February

It's been nagging at me, and feels hyper critical, but I cannot help but feel Sahibzada Farhan taking a single to reach his hundred with 12 balls left has cost Pakistan a few more runs.

Had he turned down the single there might have been a few more boundaries on offer in the over and he could have smartly farmed the strike.

Of course, he might have got out next ball as well...

    Food for thought, anyway.

212-8... it's a good effort overall but when you look at where they were. They might find themselves regretting that last sequence of play.

They did fall away. At the start of the day, if you'd offered them 212, Pakistan would have taken it. Brilliant at the top of the order. Farhan getting his second century of the tournament.

At one stage it looked like they should've got 240.

But when you lose one, play does halt and a batter has to settle. Into the final five overs, you might as well go for it.
