  1. Pak 69-0published at 6.2 overs

    One-bounce four for Fakhar Zaman.

Once again he skips down - to Maheesh Theekshana on his occasion - and times it superbly with a thrash over extra cover.

It's been a strange tournament for Pakistan. They don't really deserve to qualify. The pressure is on them but they're motoring.

Pakistan had to make team changes but why has it come down to this? Why not two games ago? Why's it taken so long?

Pakistan making a decent fist of putting a total on the board here.

That's comfortably Pakistan's best powerplay of the tournament.

  5. Pak 64-0published at 6 overs

Dasun Shanaka mops the ball on his brow.

The penultimate ball of the over is short from the Sri Lanka captain and Sahibzada Farhan flashes a cut through point.

Dilshan Madushanka puts in a leap but cannot cling on.

    • Sahibzada Farhan (Pakistan, 2026) - 323* runs
    • Virat Kohli (India, 2014) - 319

Predictable is the one thing you don't want to be, especially when you've got batters like Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman.

  8. Pak 55-0published at 5.1 overs

Sahibzada Farhan effortlessly pulls Dasun Shanaka round the corner for four.

Pakistan's highest opening partnership in this T20 World Cup.

  9. Pak 51-0published at 5 overs

A decent comeback from Dushmantha Chameera. Still, a great start from Pakistan.

Anything at 10s and above will give them a chance given the net run-rate scenario.

I'm very surprised - if you notice the way the Indian bowlers and English bowlers bowl to Pakistan, they use the short ball interspersed with bumpers.

We haven't seen a single one yet even though the square boundaries are longer at Pallekelle than the straight ones.

Chameera has got to do something with his length - too many in the slot.

  11. 6 runs

    Pak 48-0published at 4.2 overs

Sahibzada Farhan with a bit of bottom hand to hammer Dushmantha Chameera over long-on for six.

Chameera is then a little too full with his next delivery and Farhan goes deep in the crease and drills it for four.

Pakistan have made a flying start here.

This will be the key - Theekshana's bowling. He caused a lot of problems for England's batters and then fell away in that last over against New Zealand.

We've seen many games turn in the last six, seven overs of the second innings. You can't say that a game's done and dusted anywhere in the 40 overs.

  13. SL 38-0published at 4 overs

Maheesh Theekshana is into the attack for Sri Lanka.

He's got a few different deliveries up his sleeve but offers up something a little too short midway through the over and Sahibzada Farhan crisply cuts him away for four.

Fakhar Zaman is down the pitch to his penultimate delivery, opens his body, and pummels a 94-metre six.

Getting through these opening overs without losing wickets is absolutely key for Pakistan.

  15. Pak 26-0published at 3 overs

Dilshan Madushanka. comes back well for Sri Lanka with three dots.

    Positive intent from Pakistan.

Pakistan have to win the powerplay. They have to lay the foundations to allow the stroke-makers to build on it.

They need 180-200. Anything less than 170 will be tough.

Farhan is taking a liking to this from Madushanka.

    Pak 26-0published at 2.3 overs

Sahibzada Farhan skips down to Dilshan Madushanka.and meets the ball on the half-volley, powerfully striking the first ball of the over for four.

A couple of balls later Farhan picks up a slower ball from Madushanka, backs away, and drives over the long-off boundary for six.

  19. Pak 16-0published at 1.5 overs

Dushmantha Chameera with the second over for Sri Lanka.

Sahibzada Farhan opens his boundary account off the fifth ball by deftly opening the face and guiding the ball behind point for four.

What will be going through the minds of the two Pakistani openers? Farhan will have to take the lead, take the bull by the horns and smash not just a quick, but a long total to give Pakistan the opportunity of putting the runs on.

The challenge is because we've seen these games in Pallekelle being low-scoring, the margin of 64 runs is a challenge. Pakistan will have to do something a little bit different to get those runs.
