Can’t quite understand why everyone is saying Dunkley and Wyatt-Hodge are inked in to open in the T20 WC. Surely Capsey has to be picked - the most in-form batter in the squad.

Another soft dismissal. That's three from three.

The fielder was set exactly for that trap.

  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 5.1 overs

    Jones c Deepti b Gaud 3 (Eng 38-3)

Another one straight to the fielder.

Amy Jones mis-times her pull off Kranti Gaud and fires the ball right at Deepti Sharma at mid-on.

Deepti takes the catch down by her ankles, and England are in trouble.

India's quicks have made the most of conditions so far, finding more swing (1.9°) and seam (0.9°) than England's Lauren Bell (0.9° swing and 0.5° seam) did during the opening powerplay of the match.

    Target 181

And four more for Alice Capsey.

She whips Nandni Sharma through mid-wicket.

That ball has gone five metres from Charani on the boundary but she could do nothing about it.

  8. Eng 32-2published at 4.2 overs

    Dispatched!

Alice Capsey crashes Nandni Sharma through backward point for four.

There's a fielder out on the rope but they don't stand a chance with that one.

We can’t win the World Cup with Dunkley opening. Totally lacking in confidence. Top order is putting the middle under pressure almost every game. Knight then plays too slowly and the pressure gets put on the back end.

Alice Capsey comes to the crease as Kranti Gaud takes her second over.

Just four singles off it, very solid from the young seamer.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 3 overs

    Dunkley c Rodrigues b Reddy 16 (Eng 24-2)

Finds the fielder in the deep perfectly!

Sophia Dunkley goes to launch Arundhati Reddy to the mid-wicket fence and picks out Jemimah Rodrigues, the only fielder out there.

The England opener departs after another quick-scoring but not especially lengthy innings.

  12. Eng 23-1published at 2.3 overs

    Consecutive fours for Sophia Dunkley!

She cracks Arundhati Reddy down the ground and then drops to a knee to powerfully sweep through fine leg.

She gets a fist bump from new partner Amy Jones.

It is well bowled by Kranti Gaud. Danni Wyatt-Hodge was looking for the shot opening the face of the bat. It's a shot she loves but just wasn't there.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 2 overs

    Wyatt-Hodge b Gaud 5 (Eng 14-1)

    Immediate revenge for the boundary!

Kranti Gaud cramps Danni Wyatt-Hodge for room and the ball breaks through the openers defences to break the stumps.

The India seamer affects a nonchalant look with a shrugging celebration.

Bread and butter for Danni Wyatt-Hodge. She doesn't hit the ball, she carves it.

  16. Eng 14-1published at 1.5 overs

    Biffed!

Sophia Dunkley may not have magnificent staying power, but she can haul a ball down the ground.

She gets four runs off Kranti Gaud's third ball, before opening partner Danni Wyatt-Hodge cuts confidently to pick up a boundary of her own.

  18. Eng 3-0published at 1 over

Arundhati Reddy gets us going, and her first over goes for just three singles.

England's starting required run-rate is 9.05 runs an over, they need a strong powerplay if they don't want to leave their middle-order with too much to do.

England will need their highest successful chase at home if they are to win the series - their current record is the 168 they chased down against India off the last ball of the final T20I against India last summer.

Both teams are back out there, Taunton is bathed in a golden late-evening light.
