  1. Ind 54-1published at 5.1 overs

We get our first sight of Sam Curran's left-arm medium, but his first ball goes the way of a few others - smashed to the rope, this time over mid on, by the in-form Abhishek Sharma.

Will Jacks saw Vaibhav Sooryavanshi coming and he fired it in a little shorter and a little wider. He was left groping for the ball and couldn't make contact. An encouraging start on what will be a long journey.

A clever bit of bowling from Will Jacks, wide of the off stump, and he's the first man to get Vaibhav Sooryavanshi out in international cricket.

In 25 years that will be a quiz question - who got him out in his first game for India. Anyway, now the rest of the game can begin!

Sooryavanshi st Buttler b Jacks 14 (Ind 50-1)

The fun is over as Will Jacks lures Vaibhav Sooryavanshi down the track. He goes for another big shot, but misses by some way and Jos Buttler has one of his easier stumpings.

India are starting to feel some momentum which is a danger for England. Old Trafford is a lovely place to bat once you get in, especially if you enjoy the ball coming on.

  6. Ind 49-0published at 4.2 overs

Will Jacks is into the attack, but Abhishek Sharma is seeing them all alike right now, stepping away to leg to lift him high over cover for two consecutive fours.

It's a thrilling sight to watch. There's something incredible about the cleanliness with which Vaibhav Sooryavanshi strikes a cricket ball. He's utterly fearless.

Some days are woven straight into cricket history. Just as Sachin Tendulkar’s 1989 debut left an indelible mark, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s debut for India today seems to bring back that same rush of adrenaline and goosebumps the cricketing fraternity felt all those decades ago.

Re Nick at 14:33. One answer could be they wanted him to bed into the squad first and be comfortable before his debut. A more cynical one is an afternoon game in Manchester is better for broadcasting and Indian fan viewership than in Ireland or Durham.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has got nerves of steel to make his international debut at 15. I was just starting my GCSEs at that age.

    Ind 41-0published at 4 overs

Abhishek Sharma is going all around the wicket, getting one leg out of the way to despatch Tongue over long off for six.

To complete the over we see a rare T20 thing - three, as Abhishek Sharma stabs Tongue away through the off side.

This is the first time I've seen Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the flesh. He's got such a backlift and the bat almost comes back on itself.

  11. 6 runs

    Ind 32-0published at 3.3 overs

No let-up from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who deposits Josh Tongue's first ball high over mid-wicket for another six.

He gets off strike, and Abhishek Sharma slices away to the boundary over point, just a few inches short of another maximum.

Since 2025, in 15 T20 matches at Old Trafford, teams batting first have won nine matches, while teams batting second have won six.

  13. Ind 21-0published at 3 overs

Abhishek Sharma essays some more wooshes at Jofra Archer, but the over's final ball is more like it, a clip to the rope of his pads that skims over the turf to the rope at fine leg.

A bit harsh on Archer, who is seriously rapid today.

What a shot! Down on knee sweeping Jofra Archer.

  15. 6 runs

    Ind 16-0published at 2.1 overs

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi drops to one knee and scoops Jofra Archer high over long leg and into the crowd under The Point!

This is what we were expecting, wasn't it?

The England boys are getting it through at a good pace. They are bowling that hard length rather than pitch it up to these two.

  17. ind 10-0published at 2 overs

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's first international run is a bit of an anti-climax - an inside edge off his pads that squirts to leg.

Abhishek Sharma aims a couple of wooly swings at the rest of Josh Tongue's first international T20 over.

Now, Jofra Archer is pawing the ground to bowl to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi...

A couple of big swishes from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to start, but he doesn't connect. A moment to say, I was there when he went after a ball outside off stump and missed it...

  19. Ind 9-0published at 1.2 overs

He flashes outside off at another that bounces high through to Jos Buttler.

Second ball is a carbon copy, and then from the third a wild wide flies down the leg side, off the keeper's gloves and to the rope.

  20. Ind 4-0published at 1 over

Jofra Archer gradually gets more accurate and his final ball climbs off alength and smacks into Sharma's gloves.

And now we wait for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to finally face his first ball in international cricket - Josh Tongue will deliver it on his T20 debut.
