Harry Brook's innings was what was needed to wrestle back the initiative. He was causing chaos, but unfortunately wasn't able to continue.

There is lots to like about Brook's batting, the frustration is not with his technique, more what is going on between the ears.

ICC president Jay Shah is picked out by the television cameras, busy texting somebody.

Presumably giving his views to the BBC Sport website on this match. Under a nom de plume, one would assume.

Jacob Bethell attempts to reverse sweep Axar Patel but misses it and Ishan Kishan whips off the bails. Bethell in his ground, though.

Just two runs off the over.

Ah, WinViz. How the devil are you?

  4. Eng 76-3published at 8 overs

Tom Banton reverse sweeps Varun Chakaravarthy for four.

He attempts to do the same next ball but it's a bit edgey and the sweeper is able to gather it so has to settle for a couple.

It's the only boundary in the over as India's spinners put the brakes on.

Jacob Bethell and Tom Banton content to farm the strike against the left-arm spin of Axar Patel.

Here's how England lost both their openers in the first over.

  6. Eng 63-3published at 6.3 overs

    Rather harsh, I think, Matt.

Jos Buttler played the right shot but just picked out the fielder, Harry Brook got an unfortunate glove on one.

Tom Banton and Jacob Bethell pick up a single apiece off Axar Patel.

You’ve got to admire Harry Brook's refusal to acknowledge any format. He just plays the same way.

    James, Preston

Three wickets to three brainless shots. India have done nothing to deserve this position, handed to them.

    Matt, Gibraltar

  8. Eng 61-3published at 6 overs

Tom Banton with a lovely square drive - bisecting the fielders at gully and point - off Ravi Bishnoi.

    Classical strokeplay.

That's the end of the powerplay. India were 65-2.

The 27 runs off the third over is the most runs Arshdeep Singh has conceded in an over in the powerplay in T20Is - his previous worst was 23 runs.

This thread is the most negative thing in English cricket. Should be a rule that if you say someone isn’t good enough, give an option to replace them. If everyone had their way, we wouldn’t have an 11. Buttler, Salt, Tongue, Archer etc…

    Jonny, Leigh on Sea

  11. Eng 53-3published at 5 overs

England are up with the rate, but a blow to lose Harry Brook when they did.

Axar Patel has a century of T20 international wickets in his 98th match.

    Deep Dasgupta
Former India wicketkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

That's the rub of the green India needed!

It was a brilliant take down the leg side off the glove, a decent amount of deflection, very good keeping and a huge wicket for India.

    Brook c Ishan b Patel 39 (Eng 51-3)

UltraEdge shows Harry Brook got a feather on it.

Excellent glovework from Ishan Kishan, who also played his part in convincing his captain it was worth sending upstairs.

A big blow for England given how cleanly Brook was striking it.

More spin in the form of the slightly more gangly Axar Patel, who has 99 T20 international wickets.

Patel spins one down the leg side and Harry Brook tries to sweep it but misses.

The umpire signals wide, but India think there might be some glove on this.

Harry Brook looks like he's playing Test cricket here.

    John, Plymouth

  16. Eng 49-2published at 4 overs

Ravi Bishnoi's run-up is like a young deer on roller skates.

Jacob Bethell goes down on one knee to the last-but-final ball of the over and smears the spinner wide of long-on for four.

Fair to say England have recovered from an opening over where they lost both openers.

  17. Eng 43-2published at 3.1 overs

India spinner Ravi Bishnoi starts with a back foot no-ball.

Jacob Bethell muscles a free hit behind square for four.

    England have some momentum now.

    Deep Dasgupta
Former India wicketkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Axar Patel does really well, but the momentum was always going to take him over the boundary.

27 off that over? This is incredible.

    And another.

Harry Brook whips a full toss square from Arshdeep Singh. The fielder on the rope, Axar Patel, attempts to parry it back but cannot quite get it back over the boundary sponge.

A quick check from the third umpire and it's chalked up as a six.

    That's 27 off the over.

  20. 6 runs

    Eng 32-2published at 2.5 overs

    Even bigger from Harry Brook!

He stands tall and uses his levers to whack Arshdeep Singh just wide of the Point at Old Trafford and towards the back of the stand.
