Player of the match and India batter Sanju Samson: "It feels really great. To be honest, I kind of knew that I got some form going from the last game so I thought I needed to continue that. It isn't easy to find your form in crucial games for your country, but I knew this was a big game and I needed to make use of how well I'm batting.

"I gave myself a bit of extra time, I calculated my innings and I prepared well so that's why things came off really nicely. I know I was a bit lucky to start off with but I just wanted to keep going because no score is stoppable here. I just wanted to get as many runs as possible for us because even 250 looks like it could be chased here.

"England played really well, all credit goes to how they batted. We played out a great semi-final. I'm very happy with how our team turned up today."

On teammate Jasprit Bumrah's performance: "All credit goes to him. He is a world-class and once-in-a-generation bowler, and that is what he showed today.

"I think this player of the match award should go to him actually because if he didn't bowl that well in the last 10 overs, I wouldn't be standing here. The bowlers really backed themselves in the tough conditions today."

Sanju Samson is a deserved player of the match.

Capitalising on being dropped on 15, he struck 89 runs off 42 balls, including eight fours and seven sixes.

He's proving himself a big game player for India, having also scored an unbeaten 97 (50) in their must-win Super 8 encounter with West Indies.

I do not remember witnessing a game like this in a semi-final - it went close.

You want the game to go that close for the tournament and the supporters. It was a sight! What a game we had.

This will be etched in peoples' minds for a very long time.

As fun as that was I am actually quite happy with the result. If England had gone on to win the tournament it would have detracted from the abysmal Ashes performance, now we need to reset and hear a plan from this team.

Great effort from the boys. So close, just gave away too many runs in the bowling. What an innings from Jacob.

The fielding from India and Axar Patel's catches were turning points. Likewise, Harry Brook's drop was pivotal.

The way that England went about the chase, the opening partnership faltered and they did not make the most of the powerplay.

Jacob Bethell was tremendous however and there were cameos around him - just not quite enough.

There was batting brilliance on display from both sides. Sanju Samson top-scored for India with 89 (42) while Jacob Bethell struck a century (105 off 48) for England.

But it came down to a tale of two fielders.

England captain Harry Brook dropped Samson on 15. Axar Patel caught Phil Salt and Brook and orchestrated Sam Curran's dismissal.

England's 253-7 is the highest score in a losing chase in T20I cricket.

Royal Challengers Bangalore's 262-7 while chasing 287/3 by Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2024, meanwhile, is the highest in T20 history.

No shame in this chase. It’s been great. Just gave them too many.

Playing India, in India. Its not a surprise that they have bowled really well and batted excellently. England have played amazingly to keep in the competition but, ultimately, Bumrah in his natural habitat is always going to be spectacular.

Had no expectation of getting anywhere near 254. But Jacob Bethell is a bonafide superstar. Incredible performance.
