India captain Suryakumar Yadav: "We were looking to bat first. Semi-final, big game, putting runs on the board. There's wind around, so I don't think there'll be any dew.

"Whatever I've asked [the team], they've been turning up. The mood in the camp is positive. Everything is good.

"We've tightened our screws [since the South Africa defeat]. We talked about how we wanted to go and the brand of cricket is completely different.

"The pitch looks a good one, the best one. Credit to the curators. Hopefully, it's a full house and we'll give them a show."

England captain Harry Brook: "We are going to have a bowl. It looks a good wicket and hopefully we can get off to a good start and chase it down.

"They have more experience on this ground than us so we need to assess conditions quickly and play our best.

"T20 is such a fickle game. You never know what will happen. The niggly games that we have had will hold us in good stead tonight.

"We are looking forward to the atmosphere - hopefully we can keep them quiet."

India captain Suryakumar Yadav tosses the coin but it's Harry Brook who makes the right call.

The England skipper has decided to put the co-hosts into bat first in Mumbai.

Though SKY says he would have chosen to bat anyway if he'd won it.

  6. Will Buttler finally deliver at T20 World Cup?published at 13:02 GMT 5 March

Jos Buttler is one of England's all-time white-ball greats and a two-time World Cup winner.

But the 35-year-old has been horribly out of touch during this T20 World Cup and his duck against New Zealand in the final group stage game was his fifth single-figure score in a row.

But having struck an impressive unbeaten 80 as captain to lead his side to a 10-wicket win in the 2022 semi-final against the same opposition, could this be the day he rediscovers that ruthless spark when England need it most?

Ahead of the toss, we've just seen visuals of England captain Harry Brook gathering his team-mates in a huddle out there in the middle at the Wankhede Stadium.

Brook, sporting his full England kit, has spoken at length to the players, watched on by head coach Brendon McCullum, before the gathering breaks up.

England players seem to be in good spirits here.

  8. What happened in the first semi-final?published at 12:56 GMT 5 March

New Zealand reached a second Men's T20 World Cup final, beating South Africa, who were previously unbeaten at this tournament, by nine wickets in Kolkata.

Finn Allen smashed the fastest century in T20 World Cup history as New Zealand chased 170 with 43 balls to spare. He struck an unbeaten 100 off just 33 balls, including 10 fours and eight sixes.

Tim Seifert also made a brisk half-century, contributing 58 (33) to a 117-run opening stand.

Earlier, Marco Jansen had scored an unbeaten 55 (30) to rescue South Africa from 77-5. Rachin Ravindra (2-29), Matt Henry (2-34), and Cole McConchie (2-9) took two wickets apiece.

Co-hosts India had to earn a hard-fought five-wicket victory over West Indies in their final group stage fixture to set up this semi-final showdown with England.

And they had opener Sanju Samson's scintillating unbeaten 97 to thanks for the tense win.

Samson produced a chanceless knock off 50 balls - hitting 12 fours and four sixes - as India chased down 196 in a thrilling winner-takes-all encounter to round off the Super 8 stage at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The reigning champions' triumph ensured they claimed the runners-up spot in Group 1 behind South Africa which sealed a meeting with Group 2 winners England in Mumbai.

With a vocal home support behind them, Gautam Gambhir's India will be favourites here, but as New Zealand proved against South Africa yesterday, anything can happen in these crunch T20 clashes.

  10. England at crossroads ahead of seismic semi-finalpublished at 12:49 GMT 5 March

While a World Cup semi-final against cricket's superpower is seismic in its own right, this is one that could decide the direction of the next two years of English cricket.

Any success for England coach Brendon McCullum at this tournament has come with the caveat of the winter's Ashes travails in Australia.

The mood around this England camp has been positive – impressively so given the baggage brought into the campaign - but there remains little certainty over McCullum's future.

Right now, it feels as though the New Zealander has found more stable ground in reaching the semi-finals, but few are speaking with conviction.

Today's contest will define how this campaign is remembered. Stay, be pushed or walk. All options still feel possible to some degree.
