On my goodness, it's nearly at point! Jess Kerr has wiped her hand on leg about 20 times to indicate she might have a sweaty hand.

    Target 81

Oops! Jess Kerr attempts a slower ball, but it slips out of her hand and somehow ends up in the fielder's hands at short third.

It's probably a result of sweaty hands in such hot conditions, and after some chat between the umpires, it's eventually confirmed that it's just going to be called a wide rather than a dead ball or a no-ball.

  3. Eng 53-2published at 9.1 overs

    Target 81

Jess Kerr is greeted back into the attack with a glorious bit of timing from Maia Bouchier, lofting the ball over mid-wicket for four to bring up England's 50.

  4. Eng 49-2published at 9 overs

    Target 81

    Another close one!

Maia Bouchier hits down the ground towards Maddy Green at long-on, but it drops short and they take a single.

Frustration for the bowler Melie Kerr.

It was dipping, it was tough. Brooke Halliday might have thought she could have got there, but it was trip to the dentist sort of stuff.

Tough chance, but should've been taken in the deep by Brooke Halliday.

Heather Knight misjudges a slog sweep, and Halliday dives forward to get two hands to the ball barely off the ground, but it pops out as her elbows hit the turf.

  7. Eng 41-2published at 8 overs

    Target 81

A lovely over from Bree Illing, conceding just a single. It's such a shame that New Zealand's batting is in a bit of a crisis, because their bowling attack looks in very good shape.

  8. Eng 40-2published at 7 overs

    Target 81

Four singles ticked off Melie Kerr's first over.

England can just stroll from here, if they choose.

The type of character Heather Knight is, she'll want to see this home.

  10. Eng 36-2published at 6 overs

    Target 81

Two soft dismissals for England in the powerplay but chasing a low target, they are able to be cautious in terms of the run-rate.

Heather Knight is the new batter.

It just stuck in the surface ever so slightly. Sophia Dunkley was just a little bite late on it, coming off the splice of the bat and spooning it to mid-on. We've seen a few soft wickets today.

    Dunkley c Mair b Illing 22 (Eng 36-2)

Sophia Dunkley gets another positive start, but slogs to mid-on as England lose their second.

Having pulled Bree Illing for four earlier in the over, she tries to repeat the shot but it's smartly bowled, a little wider outside off stump so she's having to fetch it.

No timing, and an easy catch for Rosemary Mair.

If New Zealand can get England five or six down chasing this small total then they can take some positives.

If you're just joining us, you may be wondering about the pitch at Hove seeing that New Zealand were bowled out 80.

Well, England are proving that there's nothing wrong with the surface. They bowled brilliantly, but with assistance from some very questionable batting from New Zealand.

Good from Sophia Dunkley. Such a bottom-handed shot, leaning back in her crease, whipping the ball through extra cover for four.

  16. Eng 30-1published at 5 overs

Rosemary Mair starts well with three dot balls before she throws it away, offering too much width for Dunkley to drive for four.

One thing that might throw a spanner in the works with England's selection is if Nat Sciver-Brunt can't bowl. So then, you might have to take a batter out - probably Alice Capsey - and then you need to play Dani Gibson because you'll need her and Kemp to bowl.

I would want England to have six bowling options, not five. And Sciver-Brunt will always play as a specialist batter, anyway.

Lovely innovation from Sophia Dunkley, who shuffles across her stumps and scoops Jess Kerr down to fine leg for four more.

Some good running sees Bouchier and Dunkley take two from the final ball and it's a costly start from Kerr - nine from the over.

The technology shows that Alice Capsey's lbw would have been missing leg stump, by the way.

Maia Bouchier is in at three. She top-scored for England with 38 in the second T20 but it came from 33 balls and there was very little fluency as England fell behind the rate.

She takes a single down the ground before Sophia Dunkley gets a streaky boundary, edging past the stumps and beating the keeper.
