Re: Roger, South West - it’s a Test match. You have to make sure you have bowling options available for 1-2 days at a time. I’m sure they’d want to end the day with Filer’s threat when wickets may be easier to come by!

    Tim, Emirates Old Trafford

Do people not know the forecast is the same for the next four days? You're going to have to bowl in this heat anyway whether it be today or tomorrow.

Harmanpreet Kaur takes a single off the first ball of Mady Villers' over, before Deepti Sharma faces five dots.

We've still only had one maiden today.

Here's Lauren Filer, Roger - she comes on to replace Issy Wong.

The seamer has a couple of chances in her opening over of the session - first seeing Deepti Sharma edge in front of slip.

From the following delivery Deepti bottom edges a pull just past her stumps and runs two, with Filer incredulously holding her head with her hands.

This is shaping up nicely actually as a Test match! The last thing anyone really wants is India all out for 70 and England 30-3 by day end. India slightly ahead, but two quick wickets and England are well ahead! A great Test of fortitude and patience for England here!

    Joe, Yorkshire

Do they not rate Filer? leaking runs and the most economical bowler this morning doesn't get another look in...poor captaincy?

    Roger, South West

One thing Harmanpreet Kaur has done well today is anytime the ball is full, she's capitalised on that.

I don't know if that shape was intentional from Issy Wong but credit to her for this decent spell.

The way Mandhana was looking out there, you were convinced that she was heading towards her third Test century.

You can see her replaying and rethinking that shot on her way off. It was far too wide to be played at in a Test match. It was just a little poke, poor shot as a thin outside edge goes to Amy Jones.

Decent knock from Mandhana that has to come to and end.

    Issy Wong has the breakthrough!

Smriti Mandhana won't be the first women's Test centurion at Lord's - she falls for 83 having jabbed at a wide-ish delivery from Wong and offered an edge to Amy Jones, who was standing up.

Reward for Wong's better bowling since lunch - she breaks a partnership of 89.

A bit of a break as Harmanpreet Kaur requests treatment on her left arm.

It looks like it's getting to the stage that bowling first was the wrong call, especially in this heat. Batting last could be tricky.

    Michael, Derbyshire

Why oh why win the toss and bowl!

    Puffer, Uk

It’s baking hot, why on earth did they choose to bowl?

This is only the second time that Harmanpreet Kaur has reached 50 in Test cricket and it's her first against England.

It's been a very controlled innings from Harmanpreet Kaur. After the third wicket, things could've got a bit out of control for India, but they've just managed it.

Harmanpreet Kaur pushes Mady Villers' penultimate ball for single into the covers, bringing up her 50 off 99 balls, then defends her 100th delivery.

Prior to that, Smriti Mandhana swept Villiers through fine leg for four.

England picked up those couple early wickets, it's probably been a tad wayward at times. The pitch has done what everyone expected, flatten out under the sun.

I was really surprised that they bowled first.

  18. Ind 183-3published at 43 overs

Big appeal from Issy Wong, going up for an lbw off Smriti Mandhana.

The bowler debates with Amy Jones and Nat Sciver-Brunt and they decide not to review - rightly so, there was an inside edge.

  19. Ind 182-3published at 42 overs

Four for Harmanpreet Kaur, whipping Mady Villiers away through mid-wicket.

That takes the India captain to 49.
