  1. Aus 280-7published at 67.2 overs

Alex Carey has decided now is the time to go on the offensive.

He thrashes the first ball of Brydon Carse's over through the off side for four then tries again second ball.

This time the ball loops up, though, and Zak Crawley throws himself into the air at extra cover but can't quite reach it.

    Close.

If you’d offered me seven wickets down at the start of play I would have bitten your whole arm off. This has been a good (if not slightly fortunate!) day for England and we’ve got every chance of getting ahead of the game tomorrow!

  3. Aus 274-7published at 67 overs

Mitchell Starc gets off the mark with a punch through mid-off for two.

    Three from Josh Tongue's over.

I’m sure plenty of England fans are waking up to see the numbers 271-7 and feel a familiar flash of pain before realising the Aussies are batting.

Alex Carey has been batting nicely. He has done well out there in the middle, and it does look like it is getting easier out there to bat.

You would think he would be out there raising the bat.

  6. Aus 271-7published at 66 overs

Drinks were taken after that wicket and when play resumes, new batter Mitchell Starc sees off the last ball of the over from Brydon Carse.

Alex Carey is still there on 85 and I reckon you can expect plenty of aggression from both teams in this situation.

Australia will want to quickly boost their total, England will want to wrap this innings up quickly.

Good decision by the umpire. Pat Cummins didn't think he got anything on the ball, but there was a slight edge on the way through.

England get their man - Pat Cummins can be an incredibly dangerous batter when he gets in there and when he gets settled.

    Cummins c Pope b Carse 13 (Aus 271-7)

There's a spike on Snicko and England have their seventh!

It was back of a length from Brydon Carse and angled in towards Pat Cummins.

The Australia skipper tries to fend it off but gets a little inside edge onto his thigh pad and the ball bounces off to Ollie Pope at short leg.

Good catch from Pope as the tourists keep chipping away.

  9. Australia reviewpublished at 65.4 overs

Brydon Carse returns to the attack and he reckons he's got Pat Cummins caught bat-pad.

The Australia captain sends it upstairs, though.

I don't think we are breeding top-class spinners at the minute. I would have loved to see Liam Dawson or Jack Leach here. Both are better spinners than what we have got here.

The runs are starting to come quickly for Australia as Pat Cummins helps a wayward delivery from Josh Tongue down to the fine leg boundary.

Tongue rushes him later in the over before Alex Carey ducks a bouncer to finish it.

I’m not convinced by the technology there. After the main spike there was a muffled murmur which was very similar to Jamie Smith’s one that was overturned and given out. Third umpire also made a very quick decision compared to previous matches this series. I’m sure Carey told Cummins that he had hit it…

It all looks a bit too easy when Will Jacks is bowling from this end.

12 runs coming off that over, and it was a lovely shot from Alex Carey.

  14. 6 runs

    Aus 262-6published at 64 overs

Will Jacks throws the ball up wide of off, enticing the drive from Pat Cummins.

The England bowler gets what he wants on that front but Cummins nails the drive for four.

Then it's over to Alex Carey to end the over, hammering the ball high over long on for six! The first of the innings.

It is always hard to judge a pitch before you have seen both bowling units. But at the minute 250-6 you would think is a little bit under par.

  16. Aus 250-6published at 63 overs

Alex Carey ups the ante by advancing to Josh Tongue and trying to go over the top.

Instead, he gets a thick edges that loops over the cordon and away for four.

A single then takes Australia to 250. This game is still very nicely poised.

That is remarkable. He has not hit it, but there is a massive spike before the ball gets to the bat.

I thought from Alex Carey's body language that he was guilty.

  18. Not outpublished at 62.1 overs

    Aus 245-6

    Strange one.

There is a spike on Snicko and there was a noise but it was well before the ball reaches the bat.

A gap between ball and bat as well. Not out but even Alex Carey seemed to think he was in trouble when that was sent upstairs.

  19. England reviewpublished at 62.1 overs

    Aus 245-6

England think they've got Alex Carey!

He swipes at a ball outside off, there was a noise and Jamie Smith takes the catch.

Has Josh Tongue got another one?

  20. Aus 245-6published at 62 overs

Nicely bowled by Will Jacks, keeping the pressure on Pat Cummins after Alex Carey pushes a single early in the over.

The Australia skipper is yet to get off the mark after facing five balls.
