  1. Eng 43-0published at 5 overs

    More aggression from Jos Buttler.

Harshit Rana holds the pace off it but Buttler, backing away to leg, picks up the change of pace and plinks the India seamer over his head for four.

Phil Salt not finding it so easy. He roars an expletive after swishing at thin air to the final ball of the over from Harshit.

  2. Eng 38-0published at 4.1 overs

Harshit Rana is full outside of off but Jos Buttler, into his rhythm, goes deep his crease and whips it for six leg side.

Some shot. Buttler races to 31 off 17 balls.

  3. Eng 32-0published at 4 overs

Dragged down by Axar Patel and Jos Buttler makes no mistake, rocking on to the back foot and pull it in front of square for four.

England have a bit more momentum after that tight start from India.

The second it was up and flighted Jos Buttler trusts his hands and wallops it.

That will make him feel better.

  5. 6 runs

    Eng 25-0published at 3.2 overs

Axar Patel pushes one past the outside edge of Jos Buttler's bat which spits up off the pitch.

The India left-arm spinner is a little fuller with his next delivery and Buttler anticipates it, skipping a step, then biffing it for six over the top.

    Commanding from Jos Buttler.

He's hit that well in front of square.

  7. Eng 19-0published at 3 overs

Jos Buttler picks up his first boundary of the innings, chipping Arshdeep Singh over the top for four.

Buttler was a little bit stuck in his crease, with his hands away from his body, but his wrists are so powerful it's struck cleanly enough.

Arshdeep responds by pushing the ball wider and asking Buttler to chase it before a bumper with his penultimate ball, which the England opener hooks for four with a lovely swing.

Here they come; the England fans who want players instantly removed from the team for not hitting 20 off an opening over in swinging conditions. Utter nonsense!

Early reference to Mongolia in the live... Right up my street that.

Mongolia hold the T20I record for the longest time to score their first run, getting off the mark on the 16th ball of their innings against Japan on May 8, 2024.

    It was a wide.

Mongolia were restricted to a total of just 12 runs.

  11. Eng 5-0published at 1.4 overs

A boundary for England as Phil Salt flicks a full one from Harshit Rana off his toes through mid-wicket for four.

India have been on the money so far.

  12. How's stat?!published at 17:40 BST 7 July

    Ben Jones

Phil Salt and Jos Buttler have 1,333 runs between them in T20Is - no other England partnership has over 1,000 runs between them.

  13. Eng 1-0published at 1.3 overs

A rather unconvincing single from Jos Buttler to Harshit Rana, into the leg side, gets England's up and running to cheers from the Trent Bridge crowd.

Phil Salt is rubbish. The end

    Jack, Coventry

Salt is on the hot seat in my seat. This opening partnership needs a refresh.

    David, London

Well bowled - full and swinging.

Phil Salt clearly wary of doing anything too flashy after what happened at Old Trafford.

  16. Eng 0-0published at 1 over

Arshdeep Singh finishes a brilliant first over by fizzing one past Phil Salt's off stump with the England opening swishing at thin air.

A maiden to start from the India left-arm quick.

  17. Eng 0-0published at 0.5 overs

A carbon copy delivery from Arshdeep Singh and he provides a passionate appeal which is turned down.

    This time, no review.

  18. Salt survivespublished at 0.4 overs

Pitching outside leg and Phil Salt survives.

  19. India reviewpublished at 0.4 overs

Not out on the field by the way.

TV replays show no bat involved.

It took them 30 seconds to go for that review.

    It looked close.
