Summary

Have your say on England men this summer

  1. NZ 367-8published at 90 overs

Matt Henry comes to the crease for New Zealand.

He doesn't score off the remaining three balls of Jacob Bethell's over.

Jamieson's played a good hand for New Zealand. Interesting to see if he comes out and bowls because those hits to the helmet were quite brutal.

  3. wicket

    Jacob Bethell's golden arm!

Marion from Norfolk has the knowledge, with England's part-time spinner taking a wicket three balls after the drinks break.

A big attempted hoik from Kyle Jameson into the leg side and he's cleaned up - a partnership of 87 comes to an end.

Wicket coming, can anyone else feel it?

    Marion, Norfolk

What I find astonishing is that with six bowlers in the team, none of them are good enough to prevent a big partnership for the EIGHTH wicket!

    Jonathan, Doncaster

This is exactly why Joe Root was removed from the captaincy - naive tactics to put it mildly.

Jofra Archer bowled an eight over spell last night and I thought at the time, it's a lot of overs to be bowling on day one when you haven't played a lot of cricket.

We haven't seen him bowl in the first hour. England's most potent weapon is yet to bowl a ball on day two. He's out there so I've no idea why Jofra's not bowled this morning.

It's put New Zealand in a strong position.

It's been a little bit of chaos out there. Yesterday was a calm day for English cricket and now it's gone back to chaos.

That's a very good shot. It's leg side of where Jamieson's taking up his stance and the sumps are all exposed just so he can heave it away.

  10. drinks break

    NZ 365-7published at 89 overs

    Phillips 80, Jamieson 33

A first sight of Matthew Fisher today, replacing Josh Tongue. He took 1-45 from 19 overs yesterday.

Kyle Jamieson steps away to the seamer's fourth delivery and rather casually lifts it for four over mid-on.

We're halfway through the session, and the players will take drinks. It's been New Zealand's hour - they've scored 74 runs off 12 overs, without the loss of a wicket.

As a Surrey member who has seen about 20 draws at The Oval in the last few years...people need to relax. England should get 600 batting Day two and three. And I expect New Zealand to bat again for days four and five.

    Jaylo, London

New Zealand 400+, England all out for under 200. Heard it all before. Shambles.

    Alex, Tunbridge Wells

England are going to have to look to only bat once now having let New Zealand get this many. Lots of pressure on new faces to get a big score on the board.

    Josh, Pateley Bridge

  12. NZ 357-7published at 88 overs

Only one run off Jacob Bethell's over.

Just the third of 11 today without a boundary.

Very frustrating for England. There's not much in this surface now for the seamers. It doesn't seem to be gripping.

  14. NZ 356-7published at 87 overs

    Well, that's very nice.

Kyle Jamieson, looking very top-order, drives Josh Tongue through the covers for another four.

His top score in Tests is 51 not out, while Glenn Phillips has a best of 87 in this format - he has a pair of international centuries in both ODIs and T20s.

It's been a really productive morning so far for the New Zealand batters and it's helped by England's tactics with the short ball to begin with.

  16. NZ 350-7published at 86 overs

    Woops.

Emilio Gay lets Kyle Jamieson's drive break through him in the covers - that's four.

A further single off Jacob Bethell's final ball takes New Zealand to 350.

It's been a good morning for the New Zealanders. I felt with that missed opportunity yesterday with players getting 20s, 30s, 40s, they missed the chance to make a mark for their side.

If this continues for much longer, we'll have to see Jofra Archer soon.

  20. NZ 345-7published at 85 overs

    Phillips 80, Jamieson 22

A direct hit at the non-striker's end, but Kyle Jamieson is safely home after jabbing the ball to Ben Duckett at point.

That makes the tail-ender the second-highest run-scorer of the series, moving ahead of Emilio Gay.

Glenn Phillips, who leads that chart, then guides Josh Tongue's delivery between gully and point for his 15th four.

Jacob Bethell is going to come on to bowl, five overs after England took the new ball.

Hey, he took two wickets yesterday...
