There was a definite sense of deflation in the press tent when news filtered through that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi would not be playing today.

It hasn't silenced the India fans here, though. There's loads of them and they're fired up to watch a bit of bat and ball in the sun.

For Sooryavanshi - well, there's always Sunday.

  9. Sooryavanshi, 15, has 'natural abilities' to shinepublished at 12:55 BST

    Ireland v India (13:30 BST)

India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has said 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has the "natural abilities" to make his mark in international cricket if selected for today's T20I against Ireland in Belfast (13:30 BST).

Should Sooryavanshi make his debut on Friday or in Sunday's second T20, he will break the world record as the youngest international, currently held by Sachin Tendulkar, who played a one-day international against Pakistan in 1989, aged 16.

Kotak has "no doubt" about the talent possessed by Sooryavanshi who top-scored in the Indian Premier League this season, hitting 776 runs in 16 innings for the Rajasthan Royals, while setting a new an all-time record 65 sixes in a single season.

Ireland captain Lorcan Tucker speaking about Vaibhav Sooryavanshi:

"There's plenty of young lads on our side that will be mustard keen to get out there and play. I think it's pretty incredible for them to have a 15-year-old in their team.

"I didn't think that would ever be possible in this professional era of the game, especially with the amount of work that goes into professional cricket and the standard of players.

"So credit to him, I think he's a pretty special player. Hopefully we'll see him this week, it'll be a big moment for him, but it'll be great to spoil that party."

They can ignore him no longer. After smashing so many records since breaking through as a 13-year-old, India are likely to hand a debut to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in today's first T20 international against Ireland in Belfast.

He will be 15 years and 91 days, younger even than India's most famous teenage prodigy, Sachin Tendulkar, who played a one-day international against Pakistan in 1989, aged 16 years and 205 days.
